What Is Similarweb? Traffic Estimates for Any Website

By Joris van Huët · Similarweb's own site

The short answer: if the question is a competitor's traffic and channel mix rather than your own, Similarweb is built for it: the self-serve Competitive Intelligence package costs $199 a month on monthly billing or $125 a month billed annually, for one user and three months of history (Web Intelligence pricing, checked on 24 October 2026). It is a digital intelligence platform that models web and app traffic, so every figure about someone else's site is an estimate.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Before you pay:

  1. Do the billing sum. For example, a year on monthly billing is 12 x $199 = $2,388, against 12 x $125 = $1,500 on annual billing, a difference of $888, per the pricing page. Switching to annual billing goes through a support ticket.
  2. Test it against the site you already measure. Look up your own domain and set Similarweb's figure beside GA4 for the same month, devices and metric, as Similarweb's GA comparison article advises. The gap on your site is the clearest guide to the gap on a rival's.
  3. Count the history you need. The entry package keeps 3 months and the SEO packages 6; up to 37 months comes only with the custom business packages. Year-on-year comparisons need the latter.

How the estimates are made

Similarweb blends analytics that sites share with it, a network of consumer products reporting anonymous device behaviour, partner data and indexed public data, then calibrates the mix with machine learning, per its data methodology. For sites with little traffic it shows "Not enough data".

It reports visits, engagement, demographics and marketing channels, including a Gen AI channel for chatbot traffic. The business packages add market analysis, AI agents, an API and an MCP server.

Who it suits, and who it does not

It suits a marketing lead sizing a market or working out which channel a rival is winning. It suits less well a niche where most sites show "Not enough data", or anyone hoping to replace their own analytics.

How it compares

The rival prices below were checked on 24 October 2026 on each vendor's own page.

Ahrefs. Ahrefs builds on its own web crawler, so its strength is links, rankings and keywords rather than visit estimates; Lite is $129 a month on monthly billing and includes API and MCP access (Ahrefs pricing). Pick it for SEO work, Similarweb for traffic share.

Google Analytics. GA measures your own site directly and free of charge (Google Analytics), but cannot see a competitor. The two answer different questions.

Semrush. Semrush's SEO plan is $139 a month on monthly billing, with MCP access from its SEO plus AI search tier (Semrush pricing). It is the SEO workbench; Similarweb is the market view.

FAQ

Is Similarweb data accurate?

It is modelled, not counted. Similarweb's own article blames gaps with GA on methodology, tracking errors and mismatched comparisons.

Can I show my real numbers on Similarweb?

Yes. Connecting GA publicly replaces the estimate for your site with your sessions, visible to anyone; a private connection shows them only to your account, per the GA connection article.

Does Similarweb have an API?

Yes, in business packages or bought standalone through sales, per the pricing FAQ.
