What Is CustomGPT.ai? Cited Answers From Your Own Content

By Joris van Huët · CustomGPT.ai's own site

The short answer: if visitors send your agent fewer than 1,000 messages a month, CustomGPT.ai's Standard plan at $99 a month carries them, and 1,000 queries is precisely where Standard stops (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). CustomGPT.ai is a no-code builder for AI agents that answer only from content you supply, a sitemap, PDFs or a help centre, and link the source behind each answer. It suits a marketing or support lead who wants a grounded assistant on the site without an engineer.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Before you pick a plan:

  1. Count messages, then add the actions. A chat message spends 1 query credit, and each agentic action adds its own charge; on Standard, Lead Capture adds 2 to every message it scans (actions cost). For example, 1 + 2 = 3 credits a message, so 1,000 / 3 = 333 visitor messages a month.
  2. Start from pages you already keep up. A sitemap is the quickest source, and Standard holds 5,000 documents per agent, one document being one page, file or video (limits article).
  3. Pick the reading that proves it. Agent Analytics lists Latest Missing Content, the questions your sources could not answer (monitoring guide). A shrinking list means it works.

The product, in plain terms

The homepage now sells "governed AI assistants for the enterprise", built without code. Sources include websites, files in more than 1,400 formats, and connectors such as Google Drive, HubSpot Knowledge Base, Notion and Zendesk (pricing page). Answers show numbered references inline or a source list underneath (citations guide). It runs as a chat widget, an embed, in Slack or through the RAG API, and each agent gets a free hosted MCP server, so Claude can query its knowledge base (MCP article).

Where it fits

A team whose answers already exist in writing and get asked weekly: a SaaS pre-sales queue, a membership body, a support desk. It fits less well where more than five people build, since Standard seats 3 and Premium 5, or where the site changes daily, since auto-sync starts on Premium.

Plans and prices

Checked on 26 October 2026 on the pricing page, in USD. Standard costs $99 a month billed monthly or $89 billed annually, for 10 agents, 1,000 queries a month, 3 team members and the RAG API. Premium costs $499 monthly or $449 annually, for 25 agents, 5,000 queries, 5 members, auto-sync and no CustomGPT.ai branding. Enterprise is quoted, and adds SSO, role-based access and a data processing agreement.

Each plan opens with a 7-day free trial, but the checkout takes a card, a US bank account or the CashPay app first, and its final button, Start trial, activates the subscription (subscription guide). The free week runs on a plan already set up to bill, so put the cancellation date in your calendar on day one.

Against Chipp and ChatGPT

Chipp sells one plan at $299 a month with unlimited users and $100 of AI usage, and for $2,500 once its team configures a template (Chipp pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). Past five builders, or with nobody free to build, Chipp fits; a small team doing the work itself pays less here.

ChatGPT custom GPTs are on their way out: OpenAI plans to retire them in favour of Plugins, and personal accounts on Free, Go, Plus and Pro can no longer create new ones (OpenAI help, read on 26 October 2026). A GPT also lives inside ChatGPT. When the people asking are website visitors, not colleagues, that settles it.

First steps

How to use CustomGPT.ai builds a website agent that answers with citations and tags each lead with the campaign behind it. Run it in the trial week with your sitemap and twenty real inbox questions.

FAQ

Is my content used to train AI models?

The homepage says "No training or sharing your data", and the pricing page lists SOC 2 Type 2 and GDPR compliance on every plan. A data processing agreement appears only under Enterprise, so an EU team on a lower plan should ask how one is provided.

What does it say when your content has no answer?

Whatever you write in the "I don't know the answer" field under Personalize, Citation (fallback guide). Point it at the contact form.

Can it keep up with a site that changes often?

On Premium, auto-sync adds new pages and removes deleted ones daily, weekly, monthly or on a custom schedule (auto-sync guide). The vendor warns it can use up monthly indexing limits fast.
