What Is Databox? KPI Dashboards With an AI Analyst
By Joris van Huët · Databox's own site
The short answer: one person tracking three data sources against goals can stay on Databox's free plan, which includes one dashboard, goals and 50 AI credits a month; the scorecards and notifications a whole team reads start on Team, at $249 a month billed monthly or $199 billed annually (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). Databox now calls itself an agentic analytics platform: 130+ integrations, one agreed definition per metric, and Genie, an AI analyst (homepage).

Count before you pick a tier:
- Data sources, not tools. Databox counts each property, account or view as a data source, so one Google Analytics connection with two properties is two (pricing page FAQ). For example, two GA4 properties, one Google Ads account and one HubSpot account make 4, one more than the free plan allows.
- The BI tool you already pay for. Databox's FAQ places it beside Power BI or Looker Studio, for the people who never open them (pricing page FAQ). Keep yours.
- AI credits per question. A deep analysis averages 12.6 credits (AI credits article), so the free plan's 50 buy 3 a month (50 / 12.6 = 3.97).
What Databox does
Each metric can carry a definition and an owner (homepage). Goals follow a metric against a target and send status updates by email or Slack on every plan (goal article); paid tiers add five-metric scorecards and Smart Alerts driven by anomaly detection (metric notification article). Genie answers plain-language questions and builds metrics and dashboards, but cannot connect sources or create notifications (Genie article). From Analyst up, an MCP server, still labelled beta, lets Claude, ChatGPT or n8n query the same metrics (MCP overview).
Where it earns its place
It suits a growing business that wants leadership reading the same numbers every Monday, and agencies reporting KPIs for many clients. It suits an analytics team that models data for a living less well: the FAQ hands that work to Power BI or Tableau.
The tiers
USD, checked on 26 October 2026 on the pricing page:
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed annually, per month | Users | Data sources | AI credits a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 1 | 3 | 50 |
| Analyst | $89 | $71 | 1 | 5 | 150 |
| Team Core | $249 | $199 | 3 | 10 | 500 |
| Team Scale | $399 | $319 | 10 | 30 | 1,000 |
| Agency | From $99 | From $79 | Unlimited | 20 | 300 |
Agency grows in account packs of 1 account, 5 data sources and 50 credits at $25 a month, or $20 billed annually; white-labeling is an add-on at $100 a month, or $80 billed annually (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). Quarterly billing takes 10% off (plan article).
Each paid plan has a 14-day trial without a card, run on the plan you pick, and with a payment method added the trial turns into that plan unless you change it first (plan article, trial article). The tier you clicked on day one becomes, by default, the tier you pay for, so choose it from your source count, not the feature list.
Next to Geckoboard, Looker Studio and Power BI
Geckoboard is built for live dashboards on office screens, from $79 a month billed annually for 2 dashboards, 1 editor and 1 screen (Geckoboard pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). A sales floor watching a TV picks Geckoboard; people who want goals and a written explanation pick Databox.
Looker Studio, renamed Data Studio on Google's product page, is free for creators and viewers, and wins on cost when the sources are Google's and someone will build the reports.
Power BI is free for building reports, but sharing needs Pro at $14.00 per user a month paid yearly (checked on 26 October 2026). That favours a few analysts; Databox's included users favour a wide audience.
First steps
Start free with your three most-watched sources and one goal each; How to use Databox to track marketing KPIs against goals walks through it. If a BI tool, two dashboards and a spreadsheet each give a different revenue figure, the stack is the problem rather than any one tool, and a one-week review like the Startup Fixer covers it.
FAQ
Does Databox charge per user?
No. Each plan includes a set number of users, from one on Free to unlimited on Agency (pricing page FAQ).
What happens when a trial ends without a card?
Data stops syncing, and scheduled reports and notifications pause (pricing page FAQ). You can still log in and see existing data (trial article).
Do unused AI credits roll over?
No. The account shares one pool that resets monthly, and leftover credits expire (AI credits article).
