What Is Framer? A Website Builder on a Design Canvas

By Joris van Huët · Framer's own site

The short answer: if a designer builds your marketing site and the content team has to publish without them, Framer's Pro plan is the scale-up tier: 150 pages, 10 CMS collections, staging and branching for $30 a month billed yearly or $45 monthly, while Basic, at $10 yearly or $15 monthly, stops at 30 pages and 2 collections (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). Framer is a no-code website builder where pages are designed on a canvas, with a design agent, CMS, hosting, analytics and SEO in the same tool.

Count three things before you choose a tier:

  1. Seats can cost more than the plan. For example, Pro on yearly billing with two extra editors is $30 + 2 x $20 = $70 a month; content editors who only update the CMS are $10 each and viewers are free, per the pricing page.
  2. The content you already publish. Count blog posts, case studies and job listings. Basic holds 1,000 CMS items and Pro 2,500, which add-ons stretch to 40,000, per the same pricing page.
  3. How you will judge the site. Analytics history is 30 days on Basic and 90 on Pro, and A/B testing comes from Convert, an add-on for Pro sites.

What Framer does

Pages are laid out on a canvas, like a design file, and published to Framer's hosting. The homepage describes a design agent whose every change stays editable, a CMS agent that manages collections, and analytics, SEO and AEO built in. The MCP server lets Claude, Codex or Cursor edit a project, and their changes stay in the project or a branch until someone publishes.

Add-ons cover what marketing asks for later: AI translation into up to 20 locales, and Convert, which runs A/B tests and funnels, billed per 500,000 analytics events (pricing page).

Who it suits

Design-led startups and scale-ups whose site is part of the brand, with a designer who owns the canvas; the pricing FAQ aims Pro at teams that run their full marketing stack on Framer.

It suits less well a content operation larger than Pro's add-on ceiling, or a team with nobody who wants to work on a canvas. The free plan is for non-commercial use, with no custom domain.

What it costs

Checked on 26 October 2026 on the Framer pricing page, in USD:

BasicPro
Billed yearly, per month$10$30
Billed monthly$15$45
Pages30150, up to 700 with add-ons
CMS collections210, up to 40
CMS items1,0002,500, up to 40,000
Bandwidth a month50 GB100 GB, up to 2 TB
AI credits a month1,0003,000

Enterprise is priced on request. Extra editors cost $20 a month on yearly billing and $30 on monthly, per the pricing page. Paid plans start with double AI credits in the first month, so the agent looks cheaper during the build than it will on the second invoice; size the plan on the standard allowance. Over the bandwidth limit, Framer lets you run over for one month and then asks you to upgrade.

Figma, Squarespace and Webflow

  • Figma now publishes sites as well: Figma Sites turns Figma Design frames into responsive pages with a CMS, and Figma's pricing page lists Sites as a beta on Full seats. It decides for a team that already pays for Figma seats and wants no second tool.
  • Squarespace starts at $19 a month paid annually for Basic with 2 contributors, and $29 for Core with unlimited contributors, per its pricing page; its plans also sell products, memberships and invoices. A small business that sells picks it; a design-led marketing site picks Framer.
  • Webflow holds far more structured content, with 20,000 CMS items per site on its Premium plan, per its pricing page. A content-heavy site leans to Webflow, a design-heavy one to Framer.

First steps

Design on the free plan; a custom domain needs a paid one. How to use Framer A/B tests a landing page headline, with an agent drafting the variant.
