What Is Webflow? Visual Builder, CMS and Hosting per Site

By Joris van Huët · Webflow's own site

The short answer: if your marketing site runs on a blog, case studies or a resource library, the first Webflow plan with a CMS is Premium, at $25 a month billed yearly or $39 monthly for one site, with 20,000 CMS items and 40 collections; Basic, at $15 yearly or $25 monthly, is for sites with no CMS at all (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). Webflow is a visual website builder with a CMS and hosting, now sold as an agentic web platform, for marketing teams that want to publish without filing a developer ticket.

Price the setup you run:

  1. Plans are per site. For example, a main site and a campaign microsite, both on Premium with yearly billing, cost 2 x $25 = $50 a month before seats or add-ons, because the pricing page quotes every Site plan per site.
  2. Your content count sets the floor. Count blog posts, case studies, team bios and job listings: the free Starter plan holds 50 CMS items, Premium 20,000, and Basic none, per the plan comparison.
  3. Decide where you will measure. Webflow's Analyze add-on starts at $9 a month on yearly billing and Optimize, for tests and personalization, at $299, per the pricing page. Search Console sees the same site for nothing.

What Webflow does

A designer builds on a visual canvas that writes the HTML and CSS, marketers publish into CMS collections, and Webflow hosts the result, which the homepage sells as publishing without a developer.

The newer layer is agents. The MCP server, listed on every Site plan, lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor create pages, manage CMS items, edit SEO fields and read analytics within existing roles. Items an agent writes stay drafts until someone publishes them, per the tool reference.

Who it is for

Scale-up marketing teams that publish weekly and want design control without a developer for each change. Team, at $2,500 a month on an annual contract, adds publishing workflows and governance for larger organisations, per the pricing page.

Less suited: a buyer who expects to leave with everything. The same page notes that code export cannot include CMS items or pages, so collections leave as CSV files, not as a working site.

Basic$15$25YesNone10 GB
Premium$25$39Yes20,000From 50 GB, up to 2.5 TB

Add-ons, yearly or monthly billing, on the same pricing page: Analyze from $9 or $12, Localize Essential from $9 or $12, Optimize from $299 or $379. The Site plan pays for the site, while the people who design and edit it sit on a Workspace plan with its own bill, so the price a buyer meets first is the smaller of two invoices.

Framer, Unbounce and WordPress

  • Framer holds 10 collections and 2,500 items on its Pro plan at $30 a month billed yearly, per its pricing page. Design-led sites with modest content lean to Framer, content-heavy ones to Webflow.
  • Unbounce prices landing pages by traffic, with A/B testing from its Experiment plan at $149 a month on monthly billing, per its pricing page. It decides for paid-traffic pages; Webflow for the whole site.
  • WordPress is open-source software under the GPLv2, per wordpress.org, with hosting and plugins bought separately. Choose it to own the stack, Webflow to have one vendor host and maintain it.

Where to start

The free Starter plan includes the MCP server, enough to see whether agents suit the team; How to use Webflow runs an SEO metadata audit with one. If the real question is whether the team belongs on Webflow, WordPress or Framer at all, that is a stack decision rather than a tool one, and a one-week review like the Startup Fixer covers it.

FAQ

Is there a free plan?

Yes. Starter runs on a webflow.io address with 2 static pages and 50 CMS items, per the pricing page.

Can I export my content?

CMS collections export to CSV, per Webflow's CMS update; code export leaves CMS items behind.

Are prices per site or per person?

Both: Site plans per site, Workspace plans per seat.
