What Is iubenda? Cookie Banner, Policies and Consent Records

By Joris van Huët · iubenda's own site

The short answer: iubenda generates a site's privacy and cookie policy, its cookie banner with prior blocking and Google Consent Mode v2, and its terms and conditions, priced per site by monthly pageviews: Essentials is €4.99 a month billed yearly for up to 25,000 (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). Under 5,000 pageviews a month the Free plan works, with one catch that decides it for a growing site: at the cap, the banner is switched off for the rest of the month (free plan limits).

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Before you choose a tier:

  1. Run the overage sum; it is small. Extra pageviews cost €0.05 per 1,000 on every paid plan, per the pricing page. For example, 60,000 pageviews on Essentials is 35,000 over, so 35 x €0.05 = €1.75 and the month costs €4.99 + €1.75 = €6.74. Advanced, at €19.99, is bought for its features, not its traffic.
  2. Start from the tags you already run. The scanner lists the services on your site and auto-blocking holds them back until consent, per the installation guide; a Google Tag Manager template and CMS plugins install it.
  3. Check it from the outside. iubenda's Consent Mode page offers a free scanner that confirms Consent Mode is live on your site.

What iubenda does

The homepage groups it into four products: a privacy and cookie policy generator, the Privacy Controls and Cookie Solution (the banner and consent layer), a terms and conditions generator, and website accessibility. The banner side carries per-category consent, auto-blocking of scripts, Google-certified Consent Mode, IAB's Transparency and Consent Framework, United States state privacy laws, geo-detection and stored consent proofs. A connector for Claude and ChatGPT, with 28 tools, works on every plan including Free, per the connector page.

One ownership fact matters when you compare: the footer of Complianz's site states that Complianz is part of iubenda.

The law the banner serves is short. Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive (EUR-Lex) allows storing or reading information on a visitor's device only with consent, given after clear and comprehensive information, unless it is strictly necessary for a service the visitor asked for. A banner without blocking does not do that job.

Who it suits, and who it does not

It suits a business selling in several regions, a SaaS company with an app (the mobile SDK comes with Ultimate) and an agency running many client sites. It suits less well a single high-traffic WordPress site that would rather pay a flat yearly licence than a pageview meter.

Every paid plan has a 14-day trial. The free plan cannot buy extra usage, so a banner that switches itself off at 5,000 pageviews hands the upgrade decision to your busiest month.

How it compares

Complianz. Same group, different model: a WordPress plugin with a Shopify app beside it, licensed per site per year from $59, with no pageview or consent-record limits on any tier, per its pricing page.

CookieYes. Also metered by pageviews, with larger allowances: Basic is $10 a month for 100,000, then $0.30 per 1,000 extra, per its pricing page.

Termly. Counts banner views instead: Starter is $10 per website a month billed annually for 50,000, and Consent Mode v2 starts on Pro+ at $15, per its pricing page.

FAQ

Is Google Consent Mode included in the free plan?

Yes. iubenda's Consent Mode page lists it for all plans, including Free.

Can an AI assistant set iubenda up?

Yes. The connector can scan a site, generate the policy and configure the banner from Claude or ChatGPT, and it asks you to confirm before anything is finalised or deleted.

Does iubenda cover mobile apps?

Through the mobile SDK, which the pricing page includes on Ultimate.
