What Is OptinMonster? Popups With Plan-Gated Triggers
By Joris van Huët · OptinMonster's own site
The short answer: you are not misreading the plan table: OptinMonster's $9 Basic plan leaves out Exit-Intent, the trigger the brand is known for, which starts on Pro at $37 a month in the first year and renews at $870 a year (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). It is a popup and lead capture builder for marketers who keep their email platform and want detailed display rules on top.

Red flags before you buy:
- The renewal. Pro bills $444 for the first year and renews at $870, so year two costs $870 - $444 = $426 more for the same plan (pricing page).
- The impression meter. OptinMonster advises a plan with 20 to 30% more impressions than your pageviews and moves you up a tier automatically when you pass the limit (pricing FAQ). For example, 20,000 pageviews a month suggests 24,000 to 26,000 impressions, right at Pro's 25,000.
- Shopify revenue reports. Revenue Attribution does not work on stores using Shopify's newer checkout, which blocks third-party scripts on the thank-you page (attribution guide).
- How a winner is picked. The split test guide says to choose the highest conversion rate and mentions no significance check, so judging the sample is your job.
What OptinMonster does
Popups, floating bars, slide-ins, coupon wheels, fullscreen welcome mats and inline forms, from 700+ templates (homepage). Display rules decide when they appear, and the plan decides which rules you get: time, scroll and URL rules everywhere; device targeting from Plus; Exit-Intent, referral, cookie and scheduling rules from Pro; geolocation and returning-visitor rules on Growth (display rules guide).
On mobile, Exit-Intent fires on a quick scroll back up and does not touch the back button (Exit-Intent guide). AI Popups rewrites any text field into five variations to choose from (AI Popups announcement).
Who it suits, and who it does not
A WordPress or WooCommerce site, a publisher or an agency with an email platform in place; Growth adds unlimited sub-accounts. Less so a Shopify store on the new checkout that wants revenue per campaign, or a team expecting a statistical verdict.
Prices
USD, checked on 26 October 2026 on the annual and monthly pricing pages.
| Plan | First year, billed annually | Renewal | Billed monthly | Impressions a month | Sites |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $108 ($9 a month) | $210 a year | $21 a month | 2,500 | 1 |
| Plus | $324 ($27 a month) | $570 a year | $57 a month | 10,000 | 2 |
| Pro | $444 ($37 a month) | $870 a year | $87 a month | 25,000 | 3 |
| Growth | $804 ($67 a month) | $1,470 a year | $147 a month | 100,000 | 5 |
Every plan has a 14-day money-back guarantee. The monthly page calls the allowance pageviews while the annual FAQ says OptinMonster does not charge by pageviews, so confirm which before you buy.
The first-year figures are introductory and plans renew automatically at full price, so the $444 Pro year is the cost of getting in and the $870 renewal is the number OptinMonster is planning around.
How it compares
Mailchimp. Mailchimp builds pop-up forms inside the email tool, with time on page, inactivity, quick scroll and exit intent triggers, geotargeting and A/B tests of a draft form (Mailchimp help). Enough when Mailchimp already sends your email and one or two forms will do.
OptiMonk. OptiMonk has an AI agent design the popup, opens every feature on every plan and meters pageviews instead (OptiMonk pricing).
Popup Maker. Popup Maker is a WordPress plugin with unlimited impressions; Pro is $59.40 for the first year, then $99 a year, and revenue attribution for WooCommerce sits in Pro+ at $249 a year after the first. Choose it to keep everything inside WordPress with no traffic meter.

FAQ
Is there a monthly plan?
Yes, from $21 a month for Basic to $147 for Growth; the annual FAQ puts annual plans at 50% less than monthly (monthly pricing).
What happens when I pass my impression limit?
Campaigns stay on and OptinMonster upgrades you to the next tier where one exists; past Growth it moves you to a custom plan (pricing FAQ).
Can Exit-Intent run on an inline form?
No. Inline campaigns sit inside the page content, so Exit-Intent is available only for overlay types (Exit-Intent guide).
