What Is OptiMonk? An AI Agent That Builds Store Popups

By Joris van Huët · OptiMonk's own site

The short answer: if you run an online store and would rather describe a popup than drag one together, OptiMonk is now built around exactly that: an AI agent designs, writes and drafts the campaign, and the free plan runs it on up to 10,000 pageviews a month (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). Every plan carries every feature; you pay for traffic, AI credits and domains.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

What sets the bill:

  1. Every pageview, popup or not. The pricing FAQ counts each page load that carries the code. For example, 12,000 sessions at 2.5 pages each = 30,000 pageviews: past Free's 10,000 and inside Essential's band of 20,000 to 50,000, which starts at $19 a month billed yearly.
  2. VAT, if you buy from the EU. OptiMonk is based in Hungary and adds 27% VAT for EU buyers without a valid VAT number, so for example Essential at $29 a month becomes $29 x 1.27 = $36.83 (pricing FAQ).
  3. Domains, counted strictly. A subdomain is a separate domain, so shop.example.com and example.com take two of Essential's two slots.
  4. A holdout from day one. A variant called Control (no popup) shows nothing to its share of visitors, and uplift is then measured against it (A/B testing guide).

What OptiMonk does now

The homepage calls it the popup agent for ecommerce. You describe the popup in a sentence; the agent asks a few questions, draws four concepts in about a minute and builds the one you pick, or two as an A/B test (concept guide).

The same work runs from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor through an MCP server, free to connect on every plan; builds spend AI credits, and the agent saves drafts that a person publishes (AI assistants page). A visual editor remains, and 60+ integrations send signups to Klaviyo, Mailchimp or HubSpot (integrations).

Who it fits

A Shopify or WooCommerce brand with no designer, or a team that already plans campaigns in Claude. Less so a content site whose readers open many pages per visit, since the meter counts each one, or a team that wants the agent to report results, which it cannot do yet (what you can ask it).

Plans and prices

USD excluding VAT, checked on 26 October 2026 on the OptiMonk pricing page. Paid prices are "from" figures that rise with the traffic band you choose.

Yearly billing is paid upfront and saves 25%, and refunds run for 14 days after the first payment (pricing FAQ).

Read the meter slowly. Because a pageview counts whether or not a popup appears, the code on every page grows OptiMonk's invoice with your traffic, not with the campaigns you run.

Against the alternatives

OptinMonster. OptinMonster is the build-it-yourself route: 700+ templates and display rules unlocked tier by tier, with exit intent from Pro (display rules guide). Choose it when you want to set every rule by hand.

Wisepops. Wisepops sells a managed programme: its team audits seven days of your traffic and a strategist runs the first campaigns against control groups, with pricing through a demo (Wisepops pricing). Choose it when you want someone else at the wheel.

First campaign

Add your domain, install the code and brief the agent on a welcome offer. How to use OptiMonk builds one from Claude, start to finish.

FAQ

Does the AI agent cost extra?

No. It is in every plan, Free included, and draws on the monthly AI credit allowance; more credits come with the plan above (pricing FAQ).

Can the agent put a popup live by itself?

Assume not. The AI assistants page says it saves drafts for you to publish, although the developer reference lists a publish tool.

What happens at the pageview limit?

Campaigns pause after a warning email at 80% of the allowance, and restart when you upgrade or the monthly counter resets (pricing FAQ).
