What Is Payhip? One Feature Set, Three Fee Levels
By Joris van Huët · Payhip's own site
The short answer: if your digital product sales stay under $966.67 a month, Payhip's $0 plan, which keeps 5% of each sale, costs you less than the $29 a month Plus plan at 2%; above that Plus is cheaper, and the $99 Pro plan with no Payhip fee only wins from $3,500 a month (fees from the pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026, with Stripe or PayPal charging their own rates on top). Payhip sells digital downloads, courses, coaching, memberships and physical products from one store, and every plan has every feature.

Rule of thumb, from the fee table:
- Find your break-even before you pick. For example, Plus costs $29 to save 3 points on every sale against the $0 plan, so it pays from $29 / 0.03 = $966.67 a month. Pro costs $70 more than Plus to save another 2 points, so it pays from $70 / 0.02 = $3,500 a month. Fees from the pricing page.
- Bring the accounts you already have. Payhip pays out through your own Stripe or PayPal account, set up in Account, Settings, Payment Details, per the Stripe article, and a store can sit inside an existing WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or Shopify site.
- Read one funnel after launch. The conversion rate report shows views, started checkouts and completed checkouts, free products included.
What Payhip covers
Its homepage lists downloads, courses, physical products, memberships and coaching, a store builder with a custom domain, and embedding on your own site. Marketing tools include coupons, cross-sells, an upgrade discount after checkout, affiliates and links to 14 email providers through mailing lists.
Tax is where it differs from a plain checkout. Payhip collects, reports and remits digital EU and UK VAT, and its VAT article works an example: a $10 product sold to a buyer in France is charged $12, Payhip keeps a $0.50 fee at 5% plus the $2 VAT, and $9.50 reaches you before PayPal's fee.
Who it suits
A creator business or small marketing team selling ebooks, templates, a course or a membership, which wants a store live this week and a fee that scales with sales. It suits less well a business that wants the platform to carry the payments end to end: Payhip settles VAT on digital sales, but the money moves through your own Stripe or PayPal account, under their fees and rules.

With identical features on every plan, no missing feature will tell you when to move up: on the $0 plan Payhip's share grows with every sale until you switch, so put the $966.67 break-even from the pricing page figures in your own monthly review.
Where the rivals differ
- Gumroad takes 10% + $0.50 on direct sales and 30% on sales through its Discover marketplace, and has been merchant of record since 1 January 2025, per Gumroad's pricing page. It costs more per sale; the marketplace reach is what you pay for.
- Sellfy charges no transaction fee but a plan from $29 a month on monthly billing, with an annual sales cap per plan on its pricing page, and adds print-on-demand merch.
- Stan Store puts the store in a link-in-bio page with 0% transaction fees, per its homepage; funnels, order bumps and email need Creator Pro at $99 a month, per its help centre. It fits selling from social profiles.
