What Is Sellfy? Creator Store Plans Capped by Yearly Sales
By Joris van Huët · Sellfy's own site
The short answer: if your store will sell less than $10,000 in a year, Sellfy's Starter plan at $29 a month, or $22 a month billed yearly, covers digital downloads, subscriptions and print-on-demand merch with no Sellfy transaction fee; past that line the plan's sales cap, not a per-sale fee, sets what you pay (USD, pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). Sellfy is a store builder for creators, and you remain the seller of record, so the tax filing stays with you.
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
Three checks first:
- Work out when you hit the cap. For example, a store selling $1,200 a month passes Starter's $10,000 in month nine (9 x $1,200 = $10,800). From then on each order carries a 2% overage fee, $24 a month, until you upgrade, against $50 more a month for Business on monthly billing, per the revenue limit article.
- Bring what you already run. Payments go straight to your own Stripe or PayPal account, and migrating your email contacts is included on all three plans, per the cost article.
- Know what the revenue figure includes. The analytics article says revenue includes tax and transaction fees, so profit needs your own sum.
What Sellfy does
Its homepage calls it the online store builder made for creators, with zero transaction fees. A store sells files of up to 20GB, subscriptions billed weekly, monthly or yearly, physical goods and print-on-demand merch made and shipped from 11 fulfilment centres. Email marketing, coupons and customer reviews are on every plan; upselling, cart abandonment emails and an affiliate program start on Business.
Sellfy is not the merchant of record. Its MoR article lists what follows: you are paid directly, your name is on the customer's statement, you own the customer data, and you handle tax collection and compliance, with tools that calculate EU VAT on digital sales. For an EU seller, digital sales to consumers in other member states above the EUR 10,000 EU-wide threshold on the Commission's One Stop Shop portal carry VAT in each buyer's country, and with Sellfy that filing is yours.
Who it suits
A creator or small brand selling downloads, a subscription and merch to its own audience, with no stock. It suits less well a seller who wants the platform to carry VAT filings and chargebacks, or one heading past $200,000 a year, where custom plans start, per the revenue limit article.
Plans on 26 October 2026
From the Sellfy pricing page and the cost article, USD:
| Plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing | Yearly sales cap | Email credits a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29 | $264 ($22 a month) | $10,000 | 2,000 |
| Business | $79 | $708 ($59 a month) | $50,000 | 10,000 |
| Premium | $159 | $1,428 ($119 a month) | $200,000 | 50,000 |
Stripe or PayPal fees come on top, typically 2.9% + 30¢, per the FAQ on the pricing page.
Each plan starts with a 14-day trial with no card, and the cost article notes that checkout is disabled during it, so the trial lets you build the whole store and your first real order arrives on a paid plan.
How it compares
- Gumroad has no monthly fee and keeps 10% + $0.50 of a direct sale, acting as merchant of record, per its pricing page. At $1,200 a month in sales that fee exceeds Sellfy's $29; at a few sales a month it does not.
- Payhip offers a $0 plan with a 5% fee and remits EU and UK VAT on digital products, per its pricing page. For digital-only sellers in Europe the tax handling decides it.
- Shopify starts at $39 a month on monthly billing, per its pricing page, and is built for catalogues, stock and in-person sales. Sellfy is the lighter tool for a creator; Shopify for a brand with a warehouse.
