What Is Poptin? Popups, Forms and the Email That Follows
By Joris van Huët · Poptin's own site
The short answer: if your list is under 500 contacts and you would rather send the welcome email from the tool that caught the address, Poptin's Emails & Poptins Growth plan does both for $19 a month, with 5,000 monthly visitors included (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). Popup-only plans, for teams keeping their email tool, start at $20 a month billed yearly.

Two meters to price:
- Unique visitors. Poptin counts anyone who loads a page with its snippet in a 30-day window once, bots excluded, and at the limit every poptin stops showing (visitor counting). Basic covers 10,000 a month; Pro, 50,000.
- Active contacts. A contact counts for the whole billing cycle if it was subscribed or unconfirmed at any point in it (pricing FAQ). For example, 480 contacts plus 40 signups is 520 for the month even if 30 of the 520 unsubscribe before it ends, which moves you from the 500-contact tier at $19 to the 1,000-contact tier at $29.
- The email tool you already have. If Klaviyo or Mailchimp stays, the popup-only plans and 70+ native integrations do the job without paying for a second sender (homepage).
- Deliverability before the first send. Sending from Poptin means passing five domain checks, DKIM, SPF and DMARC among them (domain guide).
What Poptin covers
The homepage sorts it into Grow, Audience and Email. Grow is the popups (lightbox, floating bar, full screen, slide-in, gamified), embedded forms and coupons. Triggers include exit intent, time delay, scroll, page count, clicks, inactivity and an Autopilot trigger; targeting covers device, page, dates, traffic source, country and IP blocking (first poptin guide). Audience holds segments, tags and properties. Email runs campaigns and automations that can fire when someone converts on a specific popup (trigger guide).
For developers there is a public API on all plans, covering poptins, contacts, conversions and email campaigns (API guide); an MCP server is listed as coming soon (developer docs).
Who it fits
A small store, SaaS or agency that has no email platform yet, or whose list is small enough that one bill beats two; Growth and Agency plans add sub-accounts per client. It fits less well a team with an established email programme and sending reputation, which keeps that and buys the popup-only plan.
Prices
Popup-only plans, USD, checked on 26 October 2026 on the Poptin pricing page.
| Plan | Monthly billing | Billed yearly, per month | Unique visitors a month | Domains |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 1,000 | 1 |
| Basic | $25 | $20 | 10,000 | 1 |
| Pro | $59 | $47 | 50,000 | 4 |
| Agency | $119 | $95 | 150,000 and up | Unlimited |
With email, Free holds 250 active contacts and 500 emails, and Growth is priced by contacts: $19 a month for 500 with 5,000 visitors, $29 for 1,000 with 10,000, rising in steps from there (pricing page). Enterprise is quoted.
The contact meter leans Poptin's way: an address that unsubscribes in the middle of a cycle is still billed until the cycle ends, so a list clean-up done today lowers next month's invoice, not this one.
Against the alternatives
OptinMonster. OptinMonster sits on top of the email platform you keep; its homepage argues that the platform is for sending and its job is converting traffic (OptinMonster homepage). Choose it when the email tool is staying.
Hello Bar. Hello Bar sends no email at all and meters popup views, with Growth at $29 a month billed annually (Hello Bar pricing). Choose it for a bar and an exit modal feeding a list elsewhere.
Getting started
Install the snippet or plugin and build one exit-intent popup. How to use Poptin connects that popup to a welcome email.
FAQ
Is there a free plan?
Yes: 1,000 visitors a month on one domain with no card, plus 250 contacts and 500 emails if you use the email side (pricing page).
Does Poptin have an MCP server?
Not yet. The MCP page says it is coming soon and points agents to the public API in the meantime.
Do bots use up my visitor allowance?
No. Poptin says bots cannot reach its code, so they are not counted (visitor counting).
