What Is Restream? Multistreaming to 30+ Platforms

By Joris van Huët · Restream's own site

The short answer: if your team already produces the stream in OBS, vMix or a browser studio and only needs it on LinkedIn, YouTube and X at once, Restream handles the distribution from $19 a month for 3 channels on monthly billing, and a company account with 2 seats and 8 channels is Business at $239 (Restream pricing, checked on 24 October 2026). Restream is a multistreaming service with its own Studio, chat, clips and pre-recorded events.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

What sets the plan:

  1. Channels, with the add-ons counted. Professional streams to 5 channels at $49 a month and Business to 8, and Clips and Webinars are paid add-ons on every tier (pricing). For example, Standard with both add-ons is $19 + $19 + $99 = $137 a month.
  2. The production you already have. Restream takes the feed from OBS, vMix and other encoders, so your setup stays as it is (encoder guides).
  3. The rules each platform adds. LinkedIn wants 150+ followers or connections, an account at least 30 days old and one LinkedIn channel per stream (LinkedIn guide); X only lets Premium accounts go live (X guide).
  4. What you keep afterwards. Recordings expire after 15 or 30 days by plan (storage guide), so name who downloads them.

What Restream does

The core is distribution: one incoming stream sent to more than 30 platforms or a custom RTMP, SRT or HLS address. Restream Chat gathers comments from every channel in one window. The browser Studio puts up to 10 people on screen (Studio guides), and Upload & Stream airs a recorded video as a scheduled live event (pre-recorded events).

Its MCP server lets an agent in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor schedule events, switch destinations mid-broadcast, check channel health and pull viewer numbers and chat logs; it cannot post in chat (MCP FAQ).

Who it suits, and who it does not

It suits a company that produces once and wants to appear everywhere, from a weekly show to a launch aired from a file. It suits less a channel that lives on TikTok or Instagram: neither platform's chat reaches Restream Chat, and both need a manual Go Live on the platform (chat guide, pre-recorded events).

Clips cost $19, $29 or $59 a month extra by plan, Webinars $99, or $299 on Business. A separate Upload & Stream page also sells recorded-video plans from $39 a month with a 2-hour library, without saying whether that is monthly or yearly billing, so check at checkout.

Add-ons are how a $19 plan becomes a $137 one. The headline price is the vendor's opening; compare the stack you will run.

How it compares

OBS Studio. OBS is free, open-source software for recording and streaming on Windows, macOS and Linux (OBS). It produces the stream and Restream distributes it, so the question is whether you need several destinations.

Streamlabs. Streamlabs Ultra, from $15.75 a month, multistreams next to tips, merch and alert overlays (Streamlabs Ultra, checked on 24 October 2026). It is built for creators; Restream's seats and workspaces suit a company.

StreamYard. StreamYard starts from the studio and the guest, and keeps its cheaper plans for individuals, so a company pays $299 a month on Business with monthly billing (StreamYard pricing, same date).

Getting started

Rehearse on the free plan's two channels with an unlisted YouTube event. How to use Restream schedules a pre-recorded launch across LinkedIn, YouTube and X.

FAQ

Does the MCP server cost extra?

No. It needs an account, not a paid plan, and only does what your plan allows (MCP FAQ).

How long does Restream keep recordings?

Recordings, a paid feature, expire after 15 or 30 days by plan. Uploads never expire on paid plans and last 30 days on Free (storage guide).

Can I answer LinkedIn comments from Restream Chat?

Yes, but LinkedIn viewers refresh the page to see the reply, and LinkedIn comments are not relayed elsewhere (chat guide).
