What Is FirstPromoter? SaaS Affiliate and Referral Software
By Joris van Huët · FirstPromoter's own site
The short answer: if your subscriptions bill through Chargebee, Recurly or Braintree rather than Stripe, FirstPromoter is one of the affiliate tools that reads them natively, and its Starter plan at $49 a month covers programs earning up to $5,000 a month from affiliates (monthly billing, checked on 26 October 2026 on the pricing page). It runs affiliate, influencer and customer-referral programs from one account, with commissions recalculated on every renewal, upgrade, refund and cancellation.
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
Three checks before Starter:
- The step up, in dollars. Business costs $99 a month against Starter's $49, so the month affiliate revenue passes $5,000 adds $99 - $49 = $50 to every invoice after it, per the pricing FAQ. Yearly billing is $490, $990 or $1,490.
- The data you can bring. Billing providers connect directly, and the plan table includes a historical Stripe import when you migrate, so past referred customers need not start from zero.
- The report you will judge it by. Reports cover 22 data points by day, week, month or year, per the pricing page; decide now which one, revenue from affiliates or paying customers referred, counts as success.
Three programs on one billing sync
A campaign holds its own rewards, signup page, dashboard and emails, per the campaign guide. That is how one account runs an affiliate program for publishers, an influencer program with flat or hybrid fees, and an in-app customer referral program at the same time, as the homepage lays them out.
Rewards fire on billing events: the first charge, a set number of charges or months, or the customer's lifetime, per the referral software page. Coupon codes are created and synced in Stripe automatically, multi-level commissions reach three levels, and payouts go by PayPal, Wise, Stripe, crypto or bank transfer, with W-9 and W-8BEN collection in the portal. An AI assistant and an MCP server, both in beta, answer questions and draft campaigns or emails; money movement stays in the dashboard, per the MCP documentation.
Who it suits, and who it does not
Subscription businesses with more than one kind of partner, and EU companies that pay many affiliates: Business adds VAT-compliant self-billed invoices, an embedded dashboard with automatic login and a custom dashboard domain. Team members are unlimited on every plan.
The fit is weaker for one-off ecommerce sales, which sit outside its subscription pitch, and for teams that want to rehearse before going live: FirstPromoter has no sandbox, and the suggested workaround is resetting a campaign, which deletes its referrals, rewards and payouts, per its sandbox answer.

One reward design is fenced off: rewarding the referrer with a free month or credits while giving the new customer nothing is Enterprise-only, while the version that also discounts the friend runs on every plan, per the custom rewards article. The cheapest reward to give is the one priced at $149 a month.
Next to Affonso and Rewardful
- Affonso imports programs from FirstPromoter and starts lower, at $15 a month billed yearly for up to $1,000 of partner revenue, with an Affiliate Finder for recruiting, per its pricing page. It connects Stripe, Paddle, Polar, Creem and Dodo Payments, not Chargebee or Recurly.
- Rewardful charges the same $49 but allows $7,500 of affiliate revenue on Starter, limited to one campaign and two team members, per its pricing page. It reads Stripe and Paddle.
Getting started
How to use FirstPromoter takes on the problem most programs hit after launch: affiliates who sign up and never send a click.
FAQ
Is there a free plan?
No, there is a 14-day free trial with no credit card, and nothing is charged until you subscribe, per the pricing FAQ.
Can AI tools change my FirstPromoter account?
Through the MCP server, yes, with limits. Every change shows a confirmation card with a field-level diff before it applies, and payouts, invoices and commission creation are not exposed at all, per the MCP documentation.
Are coupon codes tracked when the discount is 100%?
No. FirstPromoter does not check invoices with a zero amount, so tracking needs a charge of at least $0.50, according to the coupon tracking article.
