What Is Hootsuite? A Per-Seat Social Suite

By Joris van Huët · Hootsuite's own site

The short answer: if three people will reply, post and report every day, read Hootsuite's plan page as a bill per head: Standard is $99 per user a month billed annually for 10 social accounts, so three seats cost 3 x $99 = $297 a month (plans page, checked on 24 October 2026). It puts publishing, a social inbox, listening and analytics behind one login, and it fits in-house teams for whom social is also a customer care channel.

What decides the tier:

  1. The head count, priced. For example, four people on Professional at $199 is 4 x $199 = $796 a month on annual billing, and on Advanced at $399 it is $1,596, per the plans page.
  2. The profiles you already run. Standard stops at 10, and each Instagram account, X account or Facebook Page counts once.
  3. The report someone reads. Report exporting and scheduling start on Professional, so decide who receives the monthly numbers first.

Four products under one login

Perch plans and publishes from one calendar. Nest is the inbox for comments and messages. Lumen is listening: Quick Search covers 7 days on Standard and 30 on Professional. Wisdom is the AI layer, with 100 AI credits a month on each self-serve plan, per the feature table.

For agents, Hootsuite runs MCP servers for Perch, Nest, Lumen and Parliament that connect to ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini (MCP page). The Lumen connector is an Enterprise add-on.

Where it fits, and where it does not

It fits a team that answers customers in public: message masking comes on every plan, and Advanced adds assignment and routing. It fits less well a roster of occasional freelance posters, because every login is a seat, or a team that only needs sign-off on posts, since approvals start on Advanced.

Prices on the plan page

Checked on 24 October 2026 on the Hootsuite plans page, in USD, before tax:

PlanPer user a month, billed annuallySocial accountsAdds
Standard$9910Calendar, inbox, 7-day listening
Professional$199UnlimitedDM automations, custom reports
Advanced$399UnlimitedApprovals, assignment, routing
EnterpriseQuotedUnlimitedSSO, compliance tools

Monthly billing exists at a higher rate the page does not show. The 14-day trial needs no card, limits posting to 10 to 20 posts a day per organization and leaves out bulk scheduling.

Against three rivals

Each rival's price comes from its own pricing page, checked on 24 October 2026.

Agorapulse. Also per user, at $79 a month billed annually for Standard, and inbox assignment arrives on Professional at $119 (Agorapulse pricing). For a care team that hands conversations around, that gap decides it.

Buffer. Buffer bills by channel, and its Team plan includes unlimited team members (Buffer pricing). Many people on few channels pay less there.

Sprout Social. Standard is $199 per seat a month with annual billing for 5 profiles, with review management already on it (Sprout Social pricing). Dearer per seat, for teams that want reviews in the same queue from day one.

First steps

Per-seat pricing means the vendor earns more each time another colleague needs to reply, so settle who needs a login before the trial ends. How to use Hootsuite runs the inbox step by step from Hootsuite's help centre.

If the question is why marketing pays for a suite, a listening tool and a scheduler that overlap, the stack is the problem, and a one-week review like the Startup Fixer covers it.

FAQ

Does Hootsuite have a free plan?

What counts as a social account?
