What Is LiveChat? Now Sold as Text, With an AI Agent

By Joris van Huët · LiveChat's own site

The short answer: you are not misreading the pricing page: a new LiveChat trial now starts on Text, the newer product from the same company, where Essential costs $25 per user a month on monthly billing and includes one AI Agent with 10 AI resolutions a month, while existing LiveChat accounts keep their plan, price and login (checked on 26 October 2026 on the pricing page). It suits a sales-minded team of a few people that wants to see who is on the site, open the chat at the right moment and let an AI agent take the routine questions.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Before you compare plans:

  1. Seats plus resolutions, not seats alone. Extra AI resolutions come in packs of 50 for $49.50 (pricing page). For example, 4 people and 120 AI resolutions a month: Essential is 4 x $25 = $100, plus 3 packs for the 110 above the included 10, 3 x $49.50 = $148.50, so $248.50; Growth is 4 x $99 = $396 with 200 included. Essential still wins at that size.
  2. The LiveChat account you already have. It can run beside a Text trial while you decide, per the pricing FAQ; Text features never reach a legacy plan.
  3. What a resolution is. One is counted when the AI Agent directly solves at least one customer question, and not when it hands over without answering (AI Agents article). That is the count you pay for, so it is the one to sample.

What it does now

The homepage calls it Text by LiveChat: live chat that shows who is browsing, what they view and, in shops, their cart, with proactive campaigns to open the chat. The AI Agent answers from your site, files and articles, checks orders once a store is connected, and passes a chat to a person or a ticket. Website chat, WhatsApp, Messenger, SMS and email share one inbox on every plan (pricing page), and an MCP connection lets AI assistants pull data and reports from Text.

Who it fits

Ecommerce and B2B teams answering pre-sale questions, where a chat that turns into an order or a qualified lead is the point. There is no minimum team size and no fixed user cap on Essential or Growth, per the pricing FAQ; a floor that needs SSO and audit logs is pointed at Enterprise, quoted on request.

An AI Agent that greets visitors falls under Article 50 of the EU AI Act, applying from 2 August 2026, which wants people told they are dealing with an AI system by the first interaction (consolidated text on EUR-Lex); the LiveAgent entry walks through it. Text's agent takes a custom name and avatar (AI Agents article), so put the AI label in the welcome message.

Resolutions are per account, not per person. The trial is 14 days with no card. The page opens on yearly billing, so the $19 seat a buyer sees first is the price of paying twelve months upfront; month to month it is $25. Legacy LiveChat plans, from $19 per person billed annually, now sit on a separate page behind a Request a call button.

How it compares

Tidio. Tidio charges by conversation volume and includes 10 seats on its self-serve plans; Lyro is a separate subscription from $39 a month for 50 conversations (Tidio pricing). A larger team with modest chat volume pays less there.

Intercom. Intercom bills its Fin AI agent from $0.99 per outcome, at most once per conversation. That is the same unit price as Text's extra resolutions, $49.50 / 50 = $0.99, so the choice turns on the seats and on how many resolutions each plan bundles.

Getting started

How to use LiveChat builds one job on Text: an AI Agent that answers a visitor's pricing questions, asks your qualifying questions and hands the lead to sales with a summary. If the real choice is between LiveChat, a separate help desk and a chatbot you already pay for, that is a stack decision rather than a plan decision, and a one-week Startup Fixer review is built for it. It is my own service.

FAQ

Is LiveChat shutting down?

No. Existing LiveChat customers keep their plan, price and login, per the FAQ on the pricing page. New trials start on Text.

Does the AI Agent answer WhatsApp?

Yes. The pricing page says it answers WhatsApp messages the same way as website chats, after hours too.

What happens when the resolutions run out?

You get an email at 90% of the allowance and can buy packs of 50 at any time; cutting packs back only takes effect at renewal (AI Agents article).
