What Is MonsterInsights? GA4 for WordPress, Sold by Licence Tier
By Joris van Huët · MonsterInsights's own site
The short answer: a WooCommerce store that wants its sales in GA4 without a developer needs MonsterInsights Pro, $199.50 for the first year and $399.00 at each renewal, because the eCommerce addon is not part of Lite or Plus (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026; eCommerce guide). MonsterInsights is a WordPress plugin, with 2+ million active installations listed on wordpress.org, that connects a site to Google Analytics 4, switches on tracking with toggles and shows the reports inside the admin.

What decides the tier:
- Count stores and sites first. For example, two shops on two Plus licences would cost 2 x $99.50 = $199.00 in the first year and still have no eCommerce report; one Pro licence at $199.50 covers both, since Pro runs on five sites (pricing page).
- Work with the consent tool you already run. From Plus, the EU Compliance addon holds tracking until consent is given in CookieBot, Cookie Notice, CookieYes or Complianz, and anonymises IP addresses (EU Compliance guide). The guide itself says no plugin can offer 100% legal compliance.
- Pick the count you will check it against. Store orders or form entries: whichever you trust most is what GA4 has to meet in month one.
What the plugin does
After you sign in with the Google account that owns the property, MonsterInsights places the GA4 tag and reads the reports back into WordPress within 24 hours (connection guide). The eCommerce addon adds a store report, a product-to-purchase funnel, coupons and cart abandonment to the traffic and content reports, per the wordpress.org listing.
Toggles add what GA4 leaves to developers: affiliate links, downloads, scroll depth, video plays, form conversions, custom dimensions and ad pixels. Logged-in administrators and editors are not tracked by default (admin tracking note).
Charlie Chat, added in version 10.2, answers plain-English questions about the GA4 data and closes with a recommended action. It runs on every tier, Lite included, on monthly credits: 500 on Lite, 5,000 on Plus, 10,000 on Pro (Charlie guide).
Who should buy which tier
- Lite, free: a blog or brochure site that wants GA4 installed and a dashboard.
- Plus: one site that needs EU compliance, the publisher and campaign reports and a realtime view.
- Pro: stores, lead forms and paid media, on up to five sites.
- Elite: Pro plus UserFeedback Elite's heatmaps, NPS reporting and surveys, and multisite support.
- None of them: a site that is not built on WordPress.
Price list
USD a year, checked on 26 October 2026 on the pricing page.
| Tier | First year | Renewal | Sites | Credits included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plus | $99.50 | $199.00 | 1 | 5,000 |
| Pro | $199.50 | $399.00 | 5 | 10,000 |
| Elite | $299.50 | $599.00 | 5 | 15,000 |
Lite stays free, and a 14-day money-back guarantee covers paid purchases. The FAQ adds the term that matters most: the licence renews automatically at the current renewal price and must stay active for tracking and reporting to keep working. So the first-year discount pays for the setup, and the toggles you switch on in year one become the reason to pay $399.00 for Pro in year two.
Other ways to get GA4 into WordPress
Site Kit by Google. Google's own free plugin, with 5+ million active installations on wordpress.org, setting up Search Console, Analytics, PageSpeed Insights, AdSense, Ads and Tag Manager in one dashboard. Choose it for Google's tools without store or form toggles.
Jetpack Stats. Its own counting rather than GA4, free or $8.33 a month billed yearly for 10,000 site views, discounted in year one only. Choose it for simple stats without Google Analytics.
ExactMetrics. The same company's second brand at the same Plus and Pro prices. The choice is the third tier: Elite's surveys and heatmaps here, or a 25-site Agency licence there.
Where to start
Run Lite free until you know which addon you need; how to use MonsterInsights then follows a WooCommerce store to a weekly reconciliation.
FAQ
Is there a free version?
Yes. MonsterInsights Lite on wordpress.org connects GA4, shows the dashboard reports and includes 500 Charlie Chat credits a month.
Can I run it with Site Kit or another GA plugin?
The FAQ says no: a second Google Analytics plugin can interfere with tracking and skew the data, and a GA tag left in the theme can count traffic twice.
Does MonsterInsights run on WordPress.com?
On the Business plan only, according to the FAQ, since WordPress.com's cheaper plans block plugins altogether.
