What Is OpusClip? Long Videos Cut Into Short Clips
By Joris van Huët · OpusClip's own site
The short answer: under 150 minutes of long-form video a month you are testing a clip habit, not running one, and OpusClip's Starter plan covers it: $15 a month buys 150 credits, and processing costs 1 credit per minute of source video (credits article, checked on 24 October 2026). It finds the moments in a long video, reframes, captions and posts them, for teams with webinars, podcasts or talks on file.

Rule of thumb:
- Count source minutes, not clips. For example, four 60-minute webinars a month are 4 x 60 = 240 credits: past Starter, inside Pro's 300, which is $29 a month on monthly billing (pricing page). Set the processing timeframe to skip the welcome and the housekeeping, and those minutes cost nothing.
- Feed it what you already record. Pro imports from Zoom, Riverside, StreamYard, LinkedIn and Loom among others (plans article), and a 30 to 60 minute video yields 23 to 32 clips, per the clip count article.
- Compare with your own numbers. After a month, set the views and follows on posted clips against the clips you used to cut by hand.
What OpusClip does
The homepage says it "turns long videos into shorts, and publishes them to all social platforms in one click". Two clipping models do the finding: ClipBasic works from keywords that occur in the transcript, and ClipAnything reads picture, sound and sentiment, so you can prompt it in plain language for a scene, an action or a moment (prompt article). Around them sit speaker-tracking reframing, animated captions, filler and silence removal, brand templates and a calendar. Pro adds an API and an MCP server, in beta (MCP article).
Who it suits, and where it stops
It suits a marketing team with long recordings, a social calendar to fill and no editor to cut forty shorts a month. It stops at the clip: it does not edit the long version. The Free plan carries a watermark, has no editing and lets clips be exported for 3 days only (pricing page), and a Pro workspace holds 2 seats per pack, up to 4, so a larger team talks to sales (plans article).

How it compares
CapCut. CapCut is a general editor for desktop, browser and phone, with templates and auto captions; its pricing page calls the prices shown reference only, final after sign-in. Choose it when someone will cut by hand.
Descript. Descript edits the whole recording through its transcript and has a Create Clips tool inside, billed in media hours and AI credits. Choose it when the long episode needs editing as well.
Riverside. Riverside includes Magic Clips and show notes on Pro, $24 a month on yearly billing. If the show is recorded there already, try those clips before paying for a second tool.
One caution on the shortlist OpusClip hands you. Clips arrive sorted by a Virality Score from 0 to 99 that OpusClip's own model assigns (Virality Score article); a vendor grading its own output has every reason to grade generously. Use it to sort, and let posting data decide.
