What Is Tally? Free Forms and Where Pro Starts
By Joris van Huët · Tally's own site
The short answer: below 50,000 submissions a month, Tally's free plan is the product rather than a trial of it: its fair use policy only names that volume as heavy use, and the paid tiers sell branding removal, teamwork and analytics, not more responses. Pro costs $29 a month on monthly billing or $24 a month billed yearly, checked on 26 October 2026 on the pricing page. Tally is a form builder that works like a text document, for marketing teams who want lead and survey forms without a meter on each answer.

Three checks before Pro:
- Price the year, not the month. Pro on monthly billing comes to $29 x 12 = $348 a year; billed yearly it is $24 x 12 = $288, so $60 apart, on the pricing page as checked on 26 October 2026.
- Keep the destination you already have. Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Zapier, Make and webhooks are free integrations, so a switch moves the form and leaves the spreadsheet alone.
- Decide which number proves the form works. Answer charts are free in Tally's insights; drop-off analytics, showing the question where people quit, is Pro. If your report needs completion rate, that is the reason to upgrade.
A builder that types like a document
You type questions on a page and insert blocks with a slash, as in Notion, or let Tally AI draft the form from a description, per the getting started guide. Conditional logic, calculations, answer piping and hidden fields are free, with no cap on conditions, per the logic article.
For assistants, an MCP server, still in beta, lets Claude, Claude Code or Cursor build forms and read submissions; forms it creates stay private drafts until you ask for them to be published.
Who it fits
Teams that ship many small forms: campaign sign-ups, event registrations, feedback and applications, embedded in a site or a Notion page. It fits less well when a submission must be approved or billed monthly, since Tally documents no approval workflow and no recurring payments.
Hosting can settle it for an EU company. Tally is Belgian, stores form data in Europe on Google Cloud, and acts as processor under a data processing agreement accepted through its terms, per its GDPR page. Its United States processors, SendGrid for notifications and Stripe for payments, see data only when you switch those features on.
What it costs, checked on 26 October 2026
In USD, from the Tally pricing page:
| Plan | Monthly billing | Yearly billing, per month | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Unlimited forms and submissions within fair use; logic, payments, signatures, uploads up to 10 MB a file, integrations |
| Pro | $29 | $24 | No Tally branding, custom domains, unlimited team members, partial submissions, drop-off analytics, 30 days of version history |
| Business | $89 | $74 | Automatic deletion of submissions after a set period, respondent email verification, 90 days of version history |
Every free form shows a "Made with Tally" button on each page, per the branding article. On the free plan your respondents are where Tally advertises, and taking that button off is the first line on the Pro card.
Tally beside Typeform, Jotform and Google Forms
- Typeform builds conversational forms and counts responses: 100 a month on Basic, across all forms, per its pricing page. If volume worries you, Tally's lack of a meter decides it.
- Jotform caps its free Starter plan at 5 forms and 100 submissions a month but adds approval workflows and Jotform Sign, per its pricing page. Pick it when a submission has to be approved or signed after it arrives.
- Google Forms sits inside Google Workspace, and its file upload question makes respondents sign in to a Google Account, per Google's help. If you collect files from the public, that decides it.
