What Is monday.com? Boards, Automations and AI Agents
By Joris van Huët · monday.com's own site
The short answer: if your team plans campaigns in a shared spreadsheet and wants dates, owners and reminders to look after themselves, monday.com's Standard plan is the first tier with Calendar view and automations: $12 per seat a month billed yearly, with 250 automation actions a month, on its pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026. monday.com calls itself an AI workspace for people and agents: boards, automations and AI agents for work management, with CRM, service and dev products on the same platform.

Three checks before you pick a tier:
- Actions, not automations. monday meters automations by the action, and a notification sent to a board's subscribers costs one action per subscriber, per its actions article. For example, 40 status changes a month on a board with 6 subscribers use 40 x 6 = 240 of Standard's 250.
- The spreadsheet you already run. Rebuild one tracker on the free plan before anyone pays; it holds 3 boards and 8 column types, per the pricing page.
- The usage screens. Admins see AI credit use by feature under AI governance, per the AI credits article. Read it, and the action count, on day 30.
What monday.com does
Work lives on boards: rows are items, columns hold status, people and dates, and one board can be shown as a table, Gantt chart, calendar, Kanban, form or chart, up to 100 views each, per the board views article. Automations follow a trigger, a condition and an action.
The AI side runs on credits: Sidekick answers questions about your boards, and the AI Notetaker uses 120 credits per meeting hour, per the AI credits article. Agents from the AI agent builder create and update items, assign owners and draft messages on a trigger or schedule, inside the boards you grant, and log each run with its reasoning, per the AI agents article.
Who it suits, and who it does not
It suits teams that plan visually, bring clients in as guests (from Standard) and want marketing, operations and later sales on one platform. It suits less well a team of two: the pricing FAQ says paid plans start from 3 users, so the third seat is paid for whether anyone uses it or not.
Seats, credits and actions
Per seat a month in USD, checked on 26 October 2026 on the pricing page. Prices exclude tax and depend on the billing country; above 40 users, monday asks for a quote.
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | AI credits a month | Automation actions a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0, up to 2 seats | $0 | None, AI starts on Basic | Not listed |
| Basic | $9 | $12 | 1,000 | Not listed |
| Standard | $12 | $14 | 2,000 | 250 |
| Pro | $19 | $24 | 3,000 | 25,000 |
| Enterprise | Quote | Quote | Custom | Enterprise scale |
The yearly view of the pricing page also shows a special offer of $20 off the monthly total on Standard and $30 on Pro. The 14-day trial needs no card and always runs on Pro: monday's trial article says it does not offer trials of other plans. So a team builds its first boards with 25,000 automation actions a month to spend, when the plan it can afford may allow 250; build within Standard's limits if Standard is the budget.
How it compares
- ClickUp folds docs, chat and AI credits into one plan; Core is $9 per user a month billed yearly with 1,000 automations a month, per ClickUp's pricing. It wins on fewer separate apps; monday wins when the CRM and service desk should share the platform.
- HubSpot puts the customer record at the centre, starting with a free CRM that has no expiry date. If the job is marketing to contacts rather than planning work, start there.
- Jira is free for up to 10 users with 150 automation steps a month, per Atlassian's pricing. It suits backlogs and sprints; monday fits marketing and operations planning on shared boards.
Getting started
How to use monday.com builds a campaign calendar with one automation and one AI agent.
When the board is not the bottleneck
If the shortlist keeps changing because nobody agrees who owns each handover, the gap sits in the stack and the team rather than in any board, and a one-week review like the Startup Fixer is where that gets settled.
