What Is HubSpot? Hubs, Seats, Contacts and Onboarding Fees
By Joris van Huët · HubSpot's own site
The short answer: with two users and no budget yet, you are testing whether a CRM gets used at all, and HubSpot's free tools cover that; the real bill starts at Professional, where Marketing Hub is $800 a month billed annually for 3 Core Seats and 2,000 marketing contacts, plus a required one-time $3,000 onboarding, on the Marketing Hub pricing page checked on 24 October 2026. HubSpot is a CRM platform with separate hubs for marketing, sales, service and more, built for companies that want them all on one customer record.

Read the pricing in this order:
- The first-year total. For example, Marketing Hub Professional on annual billing is 12 x $800 = $9,600, plus $3,000 onboarding, so $12,600 for 3 Core Seats; a fourth seat adds 12 x $45 = $540, using the Marketing Hub pricing page.
- What you already have. The free CRM page describes the free account as having no expiry date and upgrading without a data migration, so existing records stay where they are when you pay.
- The meter that grows. Marketing Hub tiers list 1,000, 2,000 and 10,000 marketing contacts and 500, 3,000 and 5,000 HubSpot Credits for AI, on the same page. Count the contacts you would email before you count seats.
What HubSpot does
The Smart CRM holds contacts, companies, deals and tickets, and every hub works on that record. Marketing Hub adds email, automation, ads and social; Sales Hub adds sequences, forecasting and calling; Service, Content, Data and Revenue Hub cover support, websites, data quality and payments. Agent Hub runs the AI agents, which spend HubSpot Credits.
For outside AI tools, the remote MCP server gives an assistant read and write access to CRM records, activities and content within the user's own permissions, and the Claude connector is free on every tier.
Who it suits, and who it does not
It suits a scale-up whose marketing, sales and service teams should share one database, ready to grow into Professional. It suits less well a team that wants automation cheaply: the lifecycle stages article marks setting a property from a workflow as Professional or Enterprise only.

From the Marketing Hub and Sales Hub pricing pages, in USD. Starter sits beside a struck-through $20, an offer for new customers for a limited time, and monthly payment on Professional is labelled an annual commitment. Every paid price begins with Starts at and the onboarding fee sits in a note under the card, so compare first-year totals.
How it compares
Against Pipedrive, it is scope: Pipedrive's pricing page sells a sales pipeline per seat, from $14 a month billed annually, where HubSpot sells a platform you add hubs to.
Against Attio, it is who designs the model: Attio's pricing page sells seats and credits for a CRM you shape with your own objects and workflows, where HubSpot arrives with its hubs and stages defined.

FAQ
Is HubSpot's CRM free?
Yes, for up to 2 users with no credit card, per the Sales Hub pricing page, and the free CRM page says the free account does not expire.
Is onboarding optional?
Not on Professional or Enterprise. Both pricing pages note that the price shown excludes a required one-time onboarding fee.
Can an AI assistant update HubSpot?
Yes. The MCP documentation lists write access to records, activities and pipelines, respecting user permissions; with Sensitive Data turned on, activity and conversation data is blocked from the MCP server.
