The short answer: if your business sells courses, memberships or subscriptions from its own pages and one small team runs both marketing and sales, Ontraport keeps the checkout, the automation and the contact record in one system, from $99 a month billed monthly at up to 500 contacts and one user on its pricing page. If separate marketing, sales and service teams need to share one CRM, HubSpot fits better, but its full marketing automation sits in Marketing Hub Professional at $800 a month billed annually plus a required $3,000 onboarding, per the Marketing Hub pricing page. Both pages checked on 26 October 2026.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Ontraport changes the meter. Its plan price follows your contact count, and each extra user is a flat $49 a month on the pricing calculator. HubSpot charges per seat in each hub, with a marketing-contact allowance on top. The cheaper one depends on the shape of your business.

Before you book a demo with either:

  1. Price your own first year. For example, 2,000 contacts and three users: Ontraport Plus at its "up to 2,500 contacts" setting is $1,770 a year, and two users beyond the first add 2 x $49 x 12 = $1,176, so $2,946. HubSpot Marketing Hub Professional is 12 x $800 = $9,600 plus $3,000 onboarding, so $12,600, with 3 Core Seats and 2,000 marketing contacts included. Inputs from the Ontraport calculator and the Marketing Hub page.
  2. List what Ontraport would replace. Write down the checkout, membership plugin, page builder and email tool you pay for now, with their annual cost; Ontraport's plans include all four, so those lines move to its side of the ledger. A team already on HubSpot's free CRM upgrades in place: the free CRM page promises no data migration.
  3. Name the number you will read in month three. If payments drive the business, read the revenue declined-card recovery brings back. If the handoff to sales is the weak point, read how many new leads a rep touched within a working day. Take the baseline this month.

What separates them

Where the money is taken

Ontraport treats a payment as one more event on the contact. Its feature comparison lists order forms, subscriptions, payment plans and abandoned cart recovery, with coupon codes and one-click upsells marked as missing on Plus, so an automation can react to a purchase the way it reacts to a click. HubSpot keeps payments in Revenue Hub, a separate purchase its Sales Hub page currently discounts to new customers. If you take money online every day, this decides it.

How the bill grows

On Ontraport, growth is a slider. At up to 500 contacts Pro is $1,490 a year; at up to 1,000 it is $2,090; at up to 5,000 it is $3,240, all with one user on the calculator. On HubSpot, growth is two meters at once: Core Seats beyond the three included start at $45 a month, and the marketing contacts in each tier, 1,000, 2,000 or 10,000, are the other ceiling on the Marketing Hub page. Count the contacts you will email, not the contacts you store.

Who logs in

Ontraport's homepage aims at businesses that have outgrown starter tools: one team, one database. HubSpot assumes departments, each buying its own hub. A company where the founder still writes the emails sits on Ontraport's side; one with a sales manager and a support desk sits on HubSpot's.

Prices, checked on 26 October 2026

Ontraport, from its pricing page: Plus $99, Pro $149 and Enterprise $299 a month on monthly billing, or $990, $1,490 and $2,990 a year on annual billing, at up to 500 contacts and one user.

HubSpot, from its Marketing Hub page: free tools at $0; Starter from $7 per seat a month on annual billing, with 1,000 marketing contacts; Professional from $800 a month with 3 Core Seats and 2,000 marketing contacts, plus $3,000 onboarding; Enterprise from $3,600 a month with 5 Core Seats and 10,000 marketing contacts, plus $7,000 onboarding. Starter includes simple automation; the 300 omni-channel workflows begin at Professional.

One job for an agent: clean the list before a launch

Ontraport's MCP article documents this one. Connect Claude or ChatGPT to mcp.ontraport.com and ask which contacts have stopped opening your broadcasts. The agent reads engagement from recent messages and turns your criteria into a condition your API can run. The bulk tagging goes through the API or a workflow tool such as n8n or Make, since the agent only sees a bounded set of records at a time. Between the two sits the human check: a person reads the condition and a sample of the contacts it catches before anything is tagged, the validation step the article recommends.

The trial, read carefully

A free trial is built to show you the plan the vendor would like you to buy. Ontraport's trial article says a trial started from the homepage is a Pro-level account by default, so two weeks of habits form a tier above Plus. Start it from the pricing page instead and pick the plan you would pay for. HubSpot's free tools have no expiry date, so test the record and the forms there first.

Choose Ontraport if

  • Your job is selling and collecting payment for courses, memberships or subscriptions from your own pages.
  • One small team runs campaigns, pipeline and member area, and wants them on one contact record.
  • Your list is in the low thousands and several people need logins.

Choose HubSpot if

  • Your job is passing leads from a marketing team to sales and on to service, each in its own hub.
  • You want free tools for two users first, and to pay only when the process proves itself.
  • You expect to add departments that each buy only the hub they use.

Run the free versions before either contract, each loaded with one real campaign. If that test shows the real question is how many tools the business should run at all, a one-week review like the Startup Fixer covers it. Background on each tool: Ontraport and HubSpot.

FAQ

Does Ontraport charge an onboarding fee?

No fee is required. Its pricing page offers a Done-With-You Setup for $897 as an option, a one-time fee with a 30-day money-back guarantee, checked on 26 October 2026. HubSpot's Professional and Enterprise tiers carry required onboarding.

Can HubSpot take payments the way Ontraport does?

Through Revenue Hub, which is bought separately. The Sales Hub pricing page offers Revenue Hub Professional at $57 per seat a month billed annually to new Sales Hub and Revenue Hub customers, read on 26 October 2026.

Which one works with Claude or ChatGPT?

Both run MCP servers. Ontraport's setup article shows how to switch off individual tools, such as delete, in your AI client. HubSpot's MCP documentation says its write tool shows a summary of proposed changes and waits for your confirmation before it creates or updates a record.
