The short answer: if you sell your own courses, memberships or services online and want order forms, members and automation on one record per customer, choose Ontraport: Plus costs $99 a month, or $83 a month when paid yearly, and Pro $149 or $124, on its pricing page. If you build lead systems for client businesses, HighLevel fits better: Unlimited, at $297 a month on its pricing page, gives every client a sub-account, with users and contacts unlimited. Checked on 26 October 2026.

The difference Ontraport brings is ownership of the database. Its homepage describes CRM, marketing automation, payments and the website on one database, built for an established small business selling what it makes. HighLevel is organised around clients rather than products: an agency opens a sub-account per client and builds the same funnel, calendar and follow-up inside each. Both can take a payment and host a course. Only one assumes the products are yours.

Three numbers to write down:

  1. A year on each, in both billing modes. For example, Ontraport Pro is $1,490 billed annually or 12 x $149 = $1,788 month by month; HighLevel Unlimited is $2,970 a year or 12 x $297 = $3,564, from the Ontraport and HighLevel pricing pages. Then the people: Ontraport's calculator includes one user and prices additional users at $49 a month each, while HighLevel's users are unlimited.
  2. What you sell, and where it lives today. The checkout, the membership plugin, the affiliate tool, the email platform. Write the monthly cost next to each one you would cancel; the rest stay on the bill whatever you choose.
  3. One goal to read after the move. First purchase by a new lead is the cleanest, because both platforms record the payment against the contact.

The differences that decide it

One record per buyer, or one account per client

Ontraport keeps leads, buyers, members and partners in one database you own, which is why its reporting can follow a contact from first visit to purchase. HighLevel keeps each client's contacts in that client's sub-account, which is right for an agency and adds a layer a single business does not need. A coach selling three programmes to one audience wants the first shape. An agency selling the same setup to twelve dentists wants the second.

The tables under the plans

Ontraport's add-ons sit below its plan cards on the pricing page: the Inbox at $28, $58 or $83 per user a month by plan, Dynamic CMS from $41 a month, an AI Assistant from $20, SMS from $9 a month, and a Done-With-You Setup at $897 once. HighLevel's sit on its pricing page and pricing guide: AI Employee at $50 or $97 per sub-account a month, a dedicated email IP at $59, WhatsApp at $10 per sub-account, and email at $0.675 per 1,000. Neither plan price is the bill.

How messaging is paid for

Ontraport lists email volume as unlimited available, with overage fees possible, and an SMS plan with a daily spend limit you can set. HighLevel bills every email and text from a wallet. If you mail a large list weekly, run the arithmetic on HighLevel's per-1,000 rate before you compare plan prices at all.

Starting prices, checked on 26 October 2026

Ontraport, on its pricing page, with prices rising as contacts grow: Plus at $99 a month, or $990 a year; Pro at $149, or $1,490 a year; Enterprise at $299, or $2,990 a year. Pro adds partner programmes, split testing and UTM reporting; Enterprise adds field-level permissions, with SSO and private infrastructure as paid extras.

HighLevel, on its pricing page, with contacts and users unlimited on every plan: Starter at $97 a month, or $970 a year, for 3 sub-accounts; Unlimited at $297, or $2,970; Agency Pro at $497, or $4,970, adding SaaS Mode.

Pipeline updates by assistant, with the delete switch off

Ontraport's MCP guide describes a sales use: after a call, a rep tells Claude in plain language to log a new company, update a deal's status and link the primary contact, and the assistant does it through the MCP server. Before the first prompt, open the connection's configure screen in Claude and switch off the delete tool, which the guide gives as its own example of granular control. The rep reads the assistant's summary of each change before closing the chat. Two further cautions from the same guide: the agent works on a bounded set of records at a time and will not warn you about the rest, so whole-list jobs belong in the API or in n8n, Zapier or Make; and an unattended workflow needs a check that validates what the agent produced before anything is written back. On HighLevel, the equivalent control is the scope list on the token you create for each sub-account.

Try before you commit a year

Both trials run 14 days, and Ontraport's needs no card. Build one offer end to end in each: the form, the checkout, the follow-up email and the members area. If you are an agency, build it twice in HighLevel, in two sub-accounts, and time the second build.

Ontraport's pricing page opens on annual billing with two months free, which on Pro is $298 off in exchange for a year's revenue in advance and a year of switching cost on your side. Take the annual price after the trial has shown the system works, not before.

Choose Ontraport if your job is

  • Selling courses, memberships or services you created, with order forms, payment plans and members on one customer record.
  • Knowing which campaign and which ad brought each buyer, down to UTM.
  • Running a partner or referral programme from the same database.

Choose HighLevel if your job is

  • Running lead capture, booking and follow-up for many clients from one agency login.
  • Giving every team member and every client a login at no extra cost.
  • Reselling the platform under your own brand, with SaaS Mode on Agency Pro.

FAQ

Does Ontraport charge per user?

Partly. The pricing calculator includes one user and prices additional users at $49 a month each, and the Inbox add-on is priced per user, on the Ontraport pricing page. HighLevel includes unlimited users on every plan.

Can HighLevel run a membership site for my own business?

Yes. Courses and communities are core features on its pricing page, and its membership sites post says they are created under a sub-account's Membership tab. A single business uses one of Starter's three sub-accounts.

Can an AI assistant delete records in Ontraport?

Yes, if you allow it. The MCP server supports create, read, update and delete, and its guide shows how to disable the delete tool in Claude's connection settings.
