The short answer: if you own a service business with two people and about 1,500 contacts, and you want an expert to build the automations with you, Keap fits: $299 a month billed monthly on its pricing page, plus a required implementation package listed at $500 on its implementation page. If you would rather build the system yourself, or you build it for clients, HighLevel's Starter plan is $97 a month with three sub-accounts and unlimited users, per its pricing page. Checked on 26 October 2026.

What Keap adds to this comparison is the setup. You buy one platform plan for one business, and you buy a setup alongside it: a mapping session, automations launched for you, strategy calls for a year. HighLevel hands you the parts, from funnels and calendars to SMS and workflows, and expects you, or the agency you hire, to put them together.
Red flags before you buy:
- Price the whole first year. For example, Keap for two users comes to 12 x $299 + $500 = $4,088 in year one, and every extra user is $39 a month. HighLevel Starter is $970 billed yearly, or 12 x $97 = $1,164 month by month, before usage. Figures from the Keap pricing, Keap implementation and HighLevel pricing pages.
- Where your customers read texts. Keap's text broadcasts and automated texts are available only in the United States, per its pricing page. If your customers are in Utrecht or Antwerp, Keap's texting is off the table, while HighLevel's phone system charges Twilio's rates, which vary by country.
- What you would bring across. Keap's package includes a basic import of your data, as many as 15 hours of migration work and the integration of up to two outside tools. List your lead sources, your booking tool and your payment provider now, so the hours go to the ones that matter.
- The number that proves it. Time from a web form submission to the first reply is the one both platforms exist to shorten.

What decides it
Who does the building
Keap's implementation runs for twelve months on its implementation page: weekly calls in the first month, monthly calls to month six, quarterly calls after that, and two automations launched for you. HighLevel's help is a library: its pricing FAQ points to snapshots of pre-built accounts for industries such as real estate, dentists and gyms, which load a ready configuration into a sub-account. A snapshot copies workflows, funnels and calendars, not contacts. One buys a guide, the other a template.
What you are committing to
Keap's pricing FAQ says you can cancel at any time, but an annual contract ended early costs a $299 early termination fee, and the request goes by phone at least 10 days before the next invoice. HighLevel's FAQ promises month-to-month terms and no long contract, with cancellation from the dashboard. If the business is still finding its process, the shorter commitment is worth more than the feature list.
Year one, checked on 26 October 2026
| Line | Keap, 2 users | HighLevel Starter | HighLevel Unlimited |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software, 12 months | $3,588 billed monthly | $970 billed yearly | $2,970 billed yearly |
| Setup | $500, required | None listed | None listed |
| Users | 2 included; $39 a month each after | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Clients or brands | 1 | 3 | Unlimited |
| Usage on top | Texts past the included tier; payment fees | Email at $0.675 per 1,000, phone, SMS, AI | Same, and rebilling to clients at cost |
Keap's figures come from its pricing page, which shows a single plan from $299 a month on monthly billing, two user licences included, and its implementation page, which shows $500 with $1,500 struck through. HighLevel's come from its pricing page and pricing guide.
A nurture list built by Claude, checked by the owner
Keap's Claude connector article suggests this prompt: "Identify contacts that have not been engaged in the past six months and add them to the appropriate nurture automation." Split it in two. First ask for the list only, and read it: the owner knows which of those contacts are friends, suppliers or a customer who pays by bank transfer and never opens email. Then ask Claude to add the approved names to an existing automation. The connector can add contacts to automations but cannot create new ones, and leaves out delete functions on purpose. The same article calls the chat feature a beta, asks you to verify every response, and requires a paid Claude plan. On HighLevel, an assistant reaches the data through its MCP server with a token scoped to one sub-account.
What to do before paying either
Both trials are free. Keap's needs no card, but it sends at most 25 emails, takes no payments and sends no texts, and DKIM must be set up first, per its pricing FAQ, so it tests the builder rather than your results. HighLevel's trial lasts 14 days on the plan you choose. Before either, draw your current follow-up on one page: the form, the first email, the reminder, the booking, the invoice.
Keap's FAQ explains the required package as the way customers get full value from the software. It is also how a vendor makes sure the first year begins with paid work already done, which makes the second year easier to renew than to leave. Both can be true. Budget it as a cost.
Choose Keap if your job is
- Taking one owner-led service business from enquiry to paid invoice, with selling and texting in the United States.
- Getting the first automations built with an expert beside you, not alone.
- Sending quotes, invoices and recurring charges, and asking for Google reviews, from the same system.
Choose HighLevel if your job is
- Building the same lead capture and booking system for several clients, and copying it between them.
- Doing the setup yourself, at a lower fixed fee, month to month.
- Texting customers outside the United States, at Twilio's regional rates.

If the stack is the real question
Some owners compare these two because five tools have grown into a tangle and one platform sounds like the way out. Then the stack is the problem rather than either tool, and it is worth mapping before you migrate anything: a one-week review like the Startup Fixer does that. It is my own service.
FAQ
Is Keap part of Thryv now?
Keap's website footer links to the Thryv acquisition, its help articles now sit on Thryv's support site, and the Claude connector needs the Thryv login. Keap is still sold under its own name, with its own pricing page.
Can I try Keap without paying for implementation?
Yes. The free trial needs no credit card. Its limits, per the pricing FAQ: a ceiling of 25 emails, and neither payments nor texts.
Does HighLevel offer done-for-you setup?
Not as a required package. Its pricing page points to a snapshot library of pre-built accounts and lists premium support at $500 a month and a certification programme at $97 a month as optional add-ons.
