The short answer: if four reps spend their day phoning inbound leads, Close is built for that day: Growth, at $99 per user a month billed annually, puts a power dialer, workflows and bulk email inside the CRM, per Close's pricing page. If the phone is one channel among forms, email nurture and a support desk, HubSpot keeps them on one record, and Sales Hub Professional at $90 per seat billed annually adds sequences and forecasting, plus a required one-time $1,500 onboarding, per its Sales Hub pricing.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Close treats the call as the unit of work and builds the CRM around it. HubSpot treats the customer record as the unit and lets calling be one of the things that happens to it. Neither is wrong; they suit different sales floors.

Red flags before you buy:

  1. Comparing seat prices without the onboarding and the minutes. For example, four reps on Close Growth cost 4 x $99 x 12 = $4,752 a year billed annually; four on HubSpot Sales Hub Professional cost 4 x $90 x 12 = $4,320 plus $1,500 onboarding, so $5,820, from the Close and HubSpot pricing pages. On Close, add minutes passed through at cost, which its pricing page puts at around $0.02 a minute for most outbound calls.
  2. Ignoring the call list you already keep. Whatever your reps dial from today, a spreadsheet or an export, is the first import and the first test. Close's Power Dialer works through a saved filter of leads, per its dialer guide, so the list has to be clean before the first session.
  3. Starting without a speed-to-call baseline. Write down today's median time from form submission to first call. That is the number either tool has to beat.

What the phone changes

Who decides the next call?

In Close, the list does. A rep opens a saved filter, the dialer moves through it, and workflows take care of the email and SMS steps around each call. In HubSpot the record decides: task queues and sequences set the next touch, and calling is one tool inside Sales Hub. A team measured on dials per hour will feel the difference in the first week.

Where does automation start?

Close keeps workflows off its two cheaper plans; the pricing page says so on both Solo and Essentials. HubSpot keeps sequences off Starter and puts them on Professional, along with forecasting and conversation intelligence. So for automation, the fair comparison is Close Growth against HubSpot Professional, not either vendor's entry price.

What else rides on the record?

HubSpot's case is everything that is not a call. The same contact carries marketing email, forms, ads and, with Service Hub, tickets, per its homepage. Close's pricing page lists forms, email, calling, SMS and workflows for a sales team, and no newsletter tool or help desk. If marketing hands leads to sales and support picks them up afterwards, one record across all three is worth more than a faster dialer.

The bill at three team sizes, checked on 26 October 2026

Seat prices in USD from Close's pricing page and the Sales Hub pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026, multiplied by team size. HubSpot's monthly figure for Professional is $100 a seat, labelled as an annual commitment. Close's call minutes and numbers come on top; its page puts numbers at about $1 a month.

Letting Chloe make the first call

Close documents an agent step a calling team will want: a workflow triggered by a new lead or a form submission assigns its call step to Chloe, which phones the lead at once, and logs the outcome, a summary and the transcript on the lead record, per the Chloe use cases and calls guide. Draft voice agents place no real calls, so test before you switch it on.

The human check: a rep reads the transcript of every call Chloe marks as qualified before a meeting is confirmed or a deal moves. Then check the map. Chloe's FAQ lists English only, outbound only, and United States and Canadian numbers only. For a team calling Dutch, Belgian or German prospects, the agent is not an option yet; the dialer still is.

Before you spend anything

Close's 14-day trial needs no card and HubSpot's free tools have no end date, so run the same 100 leads through both for one week. Measure the speed-to-call number from the list above, not how the interface feels.

Close's annual toggle carries a badge saying save up to 50%. That figure describes Solo, $9 against $19; on Growth, annual billing takes $109 to $99, a cut of (109 - 99) / 109 = 9.2%. A discount badge is written for the plan where it looks largest, so price the plan you will run.

Choose Close if

  • Your job is calling inbound leads within minutes and working a list all day.
  • You want the dialer, SMS, email and follow-up steps in one sales tool, priced per rep.
  • Your prospects are in the United States or Canada and you want an AI agent to make first calls.

Choose HubSpot if

  • Your job is following up leads that marketing generates, with calls as one step among emails and meetings.
  • Marketing and support need to see what sales did on the same record.
  • You expect to add Marketing Hub or Service Hub later.

Background on both: the Close entry and the HubSpot entry.

FAQ

Does Close charge for phone calls?

Yes, as usage. Calling and SMS are passed through at cost, with most outbound calls around $0.02 a minute and numbers from about $1 a month, per the pricing page.

Can HubSpot make calls on its free tools?

The Sales Hub pricing page lists calling among Starter's features, so plan on a paid seat for a calling team.

Can Chloe call leads in Europe?

Not according to its FAQ, which limits calls to United States and Canadian numbers, in English, outbound only. Calls to other countries error and do not connect.
