What Is Sender? Low-Cost Email and SMS With EU Hosting

By Joris van Huët · Sender's own site

The short answer: you are not misreading the pricing page: Sender's free plan holds more subscribers than its cheapest paid tier, 2,500 against 500, with 15,000 emails a month and Sender branding on every send (pricing page, checked on 24 October 2026). That makes it a sensible first platform for a small business with a list under 2,500 that wants newsletters, basic automation and the option of SMS later, and data hosted in the EU by default.

Three checks before you sign up:

  1. Price the branding, not the list. The free plan carries a Sender footer; removing it means Standard, which at 2,500 subscribers costs $27 a month on monthly billing. Over a year that is $27 x 12 = $324 for a clean footer, three seats and SMS (pricing page).
  2. Bring the list you already have, with its history. Sender's import wizard asks you to certify consent and handles unsubscribed and bounced contacts as a separate import (import guide), so export those from your old tool too.
  3. Know what you will measure. Each sent campaign gets a report with delivery, open and click rates (first campaign guide). Pick the number that tells you it works before the first send.

What Sender does

Sender covers newsletters, automation, transactional email, SMS, forms and popups, landing pages and segmentation, according to its homepage, with a Shopify app, WooCommerce, WordPress and PrestaShop plugins, and Zapier.

Two details set it apart. Its GDPR page says subscriber data is hosted in the European Union by default on every plan, including the free one, and that accounts are reviewed at signup and after large list uploads. And its MCP server lets an AI assistant read your account and create campaigns and workflows, but only as drafts: campaigns are never sent through that connection.

Who it suits

It suits small businesses and shops that want a low bill, EU data hosting and SMS on the same contact record. It suits less well a team that needs CRM features or many users on the cheap tier: Standard includes three seats, Professional ten.

What it costs

USD, monthly billing, from the Sender pricing page on 24 October 2026:

SubscribersStandardProfessional
500$9$15
1,000$15$20
2,500$27$44
5,000$39$79
10,000$69$127

Standard allows 12 emails per subscriber a month and Professional 24. Annual billing takes 30% off the first year for first-time users. A pay-as-you-go option sells 5,000 email credits for $29, and SMS to the United States costs $0.015 a message on the same pricing page.

How it compares

Brevo. Brevo caps its free plan by the day, 300 emails, rather than by the month, and a campaign to more than 300 people has to be requeued over the following days (Brevo help centre). If you send one newsletter to the whole list at once, a monthly allowance like Sender's fits that pattern better.

MailerLite. MailerLite's free plan stops at 250 subscribers and 2,500 monthly emails, and its Comfort plan starts at $12 a month on monthly billing for 500 subscribers (MailerLite pricing). Under 2,500 subscribers Sender's free tier goes further; above it, compare the two at your own list size.

Sender's pricing page carries a savings calculator against rivals such as Mailchimp and Klaviyo. A vendor's own calculator grades its own homework; the useful number is your subscriber count typed into both vendors' pages.

FAQ

Does the free plan include automation?

Yes. The pricing page lists email automation, landing pages, signup forms and transactional emails on the free plan, alongside the 2,500-subscriber and 15,000-email limits.

Where is the data stored?

In the European Union by default, on every plan, according to Sender's GDPR page, which also names a data protection officer at dpo@sender.net.

Can an AI assistant send campaigns from my Sender account?

No. The MCP guide says everything the server creates arrives as a draft, campaigns are never sent through the connection, and workflows are created inactive.
