What Is Nightwatch? Rank Tracking Plus AI Answer Tracking

By Joris van Huët · Nightwatch's own site

The short answer: if someone above you has started asking whether the brand shows up in ChatGPT, Nightwatch puts that answer next to your Google positions in one account. Starter tracks 500 keywords and 50 AI prompts for €99 a month, or €79 a month billed yearly, on its pricing page, checked on 24 October 2026. A team that only reports Google rankings pays for a layer it will not read.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Sums to do on the trial:

  1. Count keywords the way Nightwatch does. Each location, device and search engine is a separate keyword, per its keyword guide. For example, 150 keywords on desktop and mobile in two countries is 150 x 2 x 2 = 600, past Starter's 500.
  2. Count AI answers too. Prompts refresh daily, per the LLM tracking guide. Assuming one answer per prompt a day, 50 prompts over 30 days is 50 x 30 = 1,500, Starter's whole monthly allowance on the pricing page.
  3. Import before you type. Start from the Search Console queries the site already earns, per the import guide.
  4. Record the before-picture on day one: three positions and three prompts, so the trial ends with a comparison.

What Nightwatch tracks

Rankings first: daily checks on Google, YouTube, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and Google Maps, in 107,000+ locations, with three years of results kept, per the pricing page. Google's AI Overview appears in the same table through an AI Snippet Rank column, per the AI Overview guide.

Then answers. LLM Tracking puts your chosen questions to AI assistants and records which brands each answer names, where, with what sentiment, and which sites it cites, per the LLM tracking guide. A site audit, an SEO Agent and an MCP server for Claude or ChatGPT sit alongside.

Who it fits, and who it does not

It fits an agency or in-house team whose audience now asks about AI search, since reports can carry rankings, traffic, audits and AI visibility together, per the reports guide. It fits less well a site with a few dozen keywords, as 500 is the floor.

The vendor's pages also disagree in places. The pricing page lists on-demand checks on every plan, while a help article says on-demand updates are not supported, and Gemini appears on every plan though the LLM guide reserves it for 300 prompts or more. Settle both in the trial.

What it costs

The 14-day trial needs no card; the FAQ says an uncancelled trial becomes a monthly subscription.

"No add-ons" is true of the tools, not the volume: keywords, prompts, AI answers, research runs, agent credits and audit pages each have a monthly cap. The plan you need is the one whose first cap your work reaches.

Nightwatch next to SE Ranking

Buyers weigh it against SE Ranking, and the deciding question is whether you also need a research suite. SE Ranking's Core plan, $129 a month on monthly billing when checked on 24 October 2026, tracks 2,000 keywords and 100 prompts daily and adds backlink and keyword research, but includes one manager seat, per its pricing page; Nightwatch prices by tracked volume and lists no backlink tool.

Getting started

Start the trial with one website. How to use Nightwatch sets up rankings and AI prompts for the same site, then reads both through the MCP server.
