The short answer: Elevar fixes the pipe. Causality Engine reads what comes out of it. For a Shopify store whose real question is which channels caused its sales, Causality Engine is the pick. One read of the GA4 export costs €99 and needs nothing installed. The first finding is free on the start page (prices from the pricing page, checked on 27 October 2026). Elevar answers an earlier question, whether GA4 and the ad platforms see your orders at all, and the two often run together. Elevar is now sold by Audiense as Audiense Online. Its Core plan is $225 a month for up to 2,000 orders, after a 15-day free trial (Elevar pricing).

Disclosure: I founded Causality Engine and own it, and this page recommends it. Every claim about it links to Causality Engine's own pages.

If the pipe leaks, a reading of its output inherits the leak. Causality Engine's pay-per-report page states it without dressing it up: when analytics history is thin or broken, no causal method recovers data that was never collected.

Check the input first:

  1. Count the orders GA4 never saw. Say Shopify books 2,000 orders in September, for example, and GA4 records 1,840 purchases. That is 2,000 - 1,840 = 160 orders, 8% of the month, invisible to every GA4 report and export. Elevar's homepage says a store without server-side tracking can be missing 20 to 25% of conversions. Treat that as the vendor's claim. Your own count is the fact.
  2. Look at Direct and Unassigned. Elevar's homepage lists cutting "direct" and "unassigned" traffic in GA4 among its jobs. Its own GA4 attribution doc says an order sent without GA4 parameters can still land as direct/none. Whatever Direct remains is what a causal read splits back.
  3. Start on the free tier. Elevar's Base plan costs $0 for up to 100 orders a month and two destinations (pricing), enough to see whether its numbers close your gap.
  4. Recount after the change. Repeat step 1 on the first full month after install. If the gap closed, the months that follow are the ones a read can trust most.

How they fit together

Order matters

Elevar changes what GA4 records. Causality Engine reads what GA4 recorded. So a read taken before an Elevar install and one taken after are reading two different datasets. Direct's size and the per-channel health scores can move between them for reasons that have nothing to do with marketing. If Direct shrinks after the install, the campaigns did not suddenly improve. The meter changed. Note the install date, and when you compare reads, compare the months after it.

Attribution data is not attribution

Elevar's homepage says it stores attribution data server-side for up to a year, up from about 24 hours by its own figures. So UTMs and click IDs survive to the order. That makes the label on each order truer, which is real value. A truer label is still a label. Elevar does not claim to decide which label caused the order. Its Attribution Feed doc shows first and last touch, says the report "is not meant to be a replacement for Google Analytics", and notes that it includes no data-driven model. Deciding is the read's job: what each channel caused, set against last-click, with its assumptions published on the how-it-works page.

What each bill grows with

Elevar charges by orders processed. At 2,600 orders a month on Core, for example, the bill is $225 + 600 x $0.50 = $525. At 2,850 orders it reaches $650, the price of Advanced, which covers 10,000 (pricing). A Causality Engine read is €99 whatever your order count. Its pricing FAQ says neither price depends on revenue or ad spend.

Prices on 27 October 2026

Elevar, in US dollars, per its pricing page and its billing FAQ, which describes a monthly subscription fee. Base is $0 for 100 orders; Core $225 for 2,000; Advanced $650 for 10,000; Premium $1,250 for 30,000; Elite from $3,000 for 75,000. Extra destinations cost $125 a month each from Advanced up.

Causality Engine, excluding VAT, per its pricing page: €99 a read, refundable within 30 days. Pro is €299 a month, billed monthly, and brings automated GA4 ingestion, lifetime look-back, a chatbot over your own attribution data and budget alerts. Enterprise is a quoted 90-day pilot.

Read Elevar's headline result for what it measures. Its homepage reports that customers with server-side tracking see up to 20% more purchases attributed in their marketing platforms, like Facebook and GA4. On Facebook, that is a rise in the credit Meta's own dashboard gives Meta. It is counted by the party that sells you the next campaign. More complete signals help the bidding. They do not settle who caused the sale.

Pick Causality Engine when

  • GA4 purchases already sit close to Shopify's order count, and the open question is where next month's budget goes.
  • You want a check on Meta, Google and TikTok without adding code to the storefront, on Shopify or any other platform that runs GA4.
  • You need the answer to come with a reason to doubt it: a health score per channel, and channels under 1% of credit called too small to act on, per the how-it-works page.

Pick Elevar when

  • Ad blockers, browser restrictions and iOS privacy changes are costing you purchases in GA4 and Meta, and your step 1 count proves it.
  • You need server-side events into Meta's Conversions API, Google Ads, Klaviyo and GA4, with consent tools wired in. Causality Engine sends nothing anywhere; this is Elevar's ground alone.
  • Your email flows miss abandoned carts because returning shoppers are not recognised.

Causality Engine's own vs Elevar page is the owner's view, and its advice is to keep Elevar and add the read on top. Background on the product: the Causality Engine glossary entry.

The order of operations

Free first, and each step works alone. Run the order count above. If the gap is small, skip straight to the read. If it is large, try Elevar's Base plan or its trial, and recount after a full month. Then export the Attribution paths report from GA4 and drop it on the start page. The preview reads the file in your browser without uploading it, per the privacy policy.

Then the paid answer. The full read in Causality Engine, which I founded, starts from the start page and costs €99: Direct split back, every channel next to last-click, and a raise, cut or hold to test in one region first, as how it works describes. If the data cannot separate a channel, the read tells you so instead of guessing.

FAQ

Is Elevar still sold?

Yes. Elevar's address, getelevar.com, now opens Audiense's product page, which says Elevar is part of Audiense and offers a free plan, trials and demos.

Do I need Elevar to use Causality Engine?

No. The read takes one file, the GA4 Attribution paths export, whatever your store platform, per the how-it-works page. Elevar matters when that file is missing orders.

Does Elevar do attribution?

It improves the data attribution runs on. Its own report, the Attribution Feed, lists first and last touch for recent orders and is in beta, per its doc.
