How to Use Supermetrics in Claude for Weekly Budget Pacing

The short answer: if your team already reports in Data Studio on Supermetrics Starter (from $44 a month billed yearly, one core destination), pacing in Claude needs the AI chats destination as well, which the AI tools article says does not come with every package automatically, so check your subscription before you build; a 14-day trial starts at your first login and costs nothing (pricing page, AI tools article, checked on 26 October 2026). The steps: connect Supermetrics in Claude, set campaign write access to require approval for budget changes and anything going live, paste the month's plan into the chat, ask for spend to date per channel, check the figures against the platforms, and approve any budget shift yourself.

Pacing is the Monday question in paid media: is spend running at the rate the plan assumed, and where should the next euro go? Supermetrics already holds the connections. In Claude, the same connections answer the question in a conversation, and with write access the conversation can also move the money, which is why the setup below starts with the brakes. Plans and limits are in the Supermetrics glossary entry.
Three numbers before the first prompt:
- Pace, worked out once by hand. For example, a channel with a €12,000 monthly budget that has spent €7,500 after 18 of 31 days is at 7,500 / 12,000 = 62.5% of budget against 18 / 31 = 58.1% of the month, so slightly ahead. Do this for one channel yourself, so you recognise the right answer when Claude gives it.
- The plan you already have. Supermetrics fetches actual spend; it does not know your budget. Keep the planned spend per channel per month in a short table you can paste.
- The change log you will read. Every campaign change made through the chat is listed in the Campaign change history on the Supermetrics Hub (campaign management guide). Reading it weekly is the measure of whether the agent stayed inside its brief.
What you need
- A Claude account where you can add connectors; on a company account an admin may need to allow Supermetrics first (what happens where).
- A Supermetrics trial or a subscription with the AI chats destination.
- Logins for Google Ads, Meta Ads and LinkedIn Ads, with edit rights on the platforms if you want Claude to act and not only read.
Step 1: Connect Supermetrics to Claude
Go to Supermetrics' Claude page and click Try in Claude, or in Claude open Customize, Connectors and search for Supermetrics, then pick the Supermetrics team to use (Claude guide). Use the email that will hold the paid subscription: the connection stays tied to the email and team active at first connection, and a purchase under another email shows up as a LICENSE_NOT_FOUND error until you disconnect and reconnect.
Step 2: Connect the ad accounts
Ask Claude to connect Google Ads; it returns a login link that opens in a new tab, and after logging in you go back to the chat and ask again (what happens where). Repeat for Meta Ads and LinkedIn Ads. Data sources connected from the chat also appear on the Hub.
Step 3: Put the brakes on before you ask anything
On the Hub, open Campaign write access, select the accounts Claude may change, and choose when a human must approve: no approval at all, before going live, before budget changes and going live, or before any change to a live campaign (campaign management guide). For pacing, choose budget changes and going live at the least. Only the person who connected an ad account can enable write access for it, and write access does not raise anyone's role on the platform: a view-only Meta user still cannot change a thing.
Step 4: Ask for the pacing view
Paste your plan table, then use the flow from Supermetrics' own pacing example, named explicitly: "Using Supermetrics, pull this week's and month-to-date spend, clicks and conversions from my Google Ads, Facebook Ads and LinkedIn Ads accounts. Against the plan above, show each channel's spend to date, percent paced, projected month-end spend at the current run rate, and a red, amber or green status." Naming Supermetrics matters if you have connected more than one data tool to Claude (Claude guide).
Step 5: Check the numbers before you believe them
Supermetrics' own advice is to ask the AI which account, date range and fields it queried, and to compare against the platform when a number looks off (what happens where). Two settings are worth naming in the prompt. Meta conversions follow the attribution setting on the ad account, with no Supermetrics default, so name the window in the prompt if you want a different one (conversion window guide). And LinkedIn Ads reports in UTC, so state your time zone in the prompt (time zone guide).
Step 6: Decide, then let the agent do the clicking
Ask for a recommendation, such as moving budget from the channel furthest ahead of plan to the one with the lowest cost per conversion. Claude shows the proposed change before applying it; you confirm or adjust, and with the approval setting from step 3 nothing goes live without you. New campaigns are always created paused. If a change hurts, undo it from the chat or the change history (campaign management guide).
What Supermetrics' docs warn about
- Cost is your responsibility. The campaign guide tells you to double-check AI-assisted changes and their cost before execution, and says you are responsible for what the AI does.
- Wrong team in the chat. Write access is enabled per Supermetrics team; a WRITE_ACCESS_NOT_ENABLED error usually means the chat uses a different team or email than the one you configured.
- Early access. Campaign management is in early access and free with an existing subscription, so expect its list of supported actions to change.
The free version, and what the platforms are counting
The free version is a spreadsheet: on Monday, export spend to date from each ad manager, divide by the plan, and compare with the share of the month gone, as in the worked example above. It takes longer and it is enough.
Then the destination question. Claude counts as a Supermetrics destination of its own, so a team on Starter's single core destination either buys a second destination or swaps Data Studio out, per the AI tools article, and the trial that starts at your first login from Claude is how that second destination gets sold. Price it before the trial makes the habit.
Last, the number pacing optimises. Moving budget toward the lowest cost per conversion trusts each platform's own conversion count, and every platform counts the sales its ads touched. The free test is a holdout: pause one channel in one region for two weeks and compare orders there with the rest of the business. Later, if you want that test running continuously, a causal attribution tool like Causality Engine runs it; disclosure: I founded it.
FAQ
Can Claude change my budgets without asking?
Only if you allow it. "No human approval" in Campaign write access applies changes immediately; "Going live" holds launches and unpausing only, "Budget + going live" adds budget changes on live campaigns, and "All live changes" holds everything (campaign management guide).
Which platforms can Claude manage through Supermetrics?
Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Microsoft Advertising, TikTok Ads, ChatGPT Ads, LinkedIn Ads and Snapchat Marketing, per the campaign management guide, with some actions, such as Google Ads life events, not supported.
Why does Claude say my subscription was not found?
Because the connection is tied to the email and team used the first time, often the trial's. Check which email holds the paid subscription, disconnect Supermetrics in Claude and reconnect with that email (Claude guide).
