Causality Engine vs Rockerbox: A GA4 Read or Three Methods

The short answer: Meta, Google and TikTok each claim last week's orders, and together they claim more than the store booked. If your store sells online and needs to know which of them caused sales before next month's budget, Causality Engine is the pick. One read of the GA4 export you already have costs €99 (prices from the pricing page, checked on 27 October 2026). It comes back in 1 to 2 minutes, and the first finding is free on the start page. Rockerbox fits a different buyer: a brand with podcasts, direct mail or linear TV in the plan. That brand wants multi-touch attribution, a mix model and managed lift tests from one vendor, and buys them through a demo and a 12-month agreement (Rockerbox plans, client agreement).
Disclosure: I founded Causality Engine and own it, and this page recommends it. Every claim about it links to Causality Engine's own pages.
That overcount is not a mistake in your reporting. Rockerbox answers it with a measurement programme. Causality Engine answers it with one file.
Before you book a demo:
- Price a year of answers. For example, a read every quarter is 4 x €99 = €396 a year, the figure Causality Engine's attribution checkup page prints. Rockerbox publishes no price on its plans page. Its side of the sum exists only once a quote arrives.
- Start from the history you hold. Causality Engine reads 12 months or more of the GA4 Attribution paths export, per its how-it-works page. Rockerbox's help docs say it needs its own on-site pixel to match conversions to marketing events. So a tag goes on the store first.
- Count the channels your site never sees. Rockerbox's plans page lists podcast advertising, influencers, direct mail and linear TV among the channels it covers. A GA4 export holds what reached your site and nothing else.
- Write the decision down before either tool runs. Name the channel you would raise, cut or hold, and by how much. Judge the tool by whether it changed that call. Then test the change in one region before the whole budget moves, as the how-it-works page recommends.
Three methods against one file
| Attribute | Causality Engine | Rockerbox | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Method | Causal inference on the GA4 Attribution paths export, next to a last-click rebuild of the same file | Multi-touch attribution, marketing mix modelling and incrementality testing on one data foundation | How it works, Rockerbox home |
| Install | Nothing; the export is the input | On-site pixel required to match users to conversions | How it works, Rockerbox help |
| Role of GA4 | The whole input | Aggregate data from the GA4 Data API for geo-lift tests; not a source for MTA conversions | Rockerbox GA4 article |
| Channels | Every channel GA4 records, paid and organic | 100+ integrations, including affiliates, OTT, direct mail and call tracking | Integrations, Rockerbox home, Rockerbox integrations |
| Time to a first number | 1 to 2 minutes from upload | Data foundation often within a few weeks; MMM and testing take longer | How it works, Rockerbox plans FAQ |
| Experiments | None to run; each channel gets a next step to test in one region | A fully managed testing offering with control groups | How it works, Rockerbox Testing |
| Term | None for a read; Pro billed monthly | 12 months, renewing for 12-month periods | Pricing, Rockerbox agreement |
Where the two part ways
An experiment you design, or variation you already have
Rockerbox's FAQ on its plans page is candid: multi-touch attribution and mix models do not prove causality on their own. That is why it sells testing beside them, with control groups and a team that guides the design and the reading. Control groups are the rigorous route, and no read of history matches them for proof. They also cost weeks of held-back spend per question.
Causality Engine starts from the same admission and answers it from history. Its causal attribution page estimates what sales would have been without each channel, from the converting paths already in GA4. Its assumptions are written down: complete GA4 data, enough converting paths per channel, and no hidden factor moving in lockstep with one channel. Each channel gets a data-health score from 0 to 100. Under 90, move budget in steps.
Channels that leave no visit behind
Here Rockerbox wins outright. A direct-mail drop or a TV flight reaches GA4, if at all, as a bump in Direct and branded search with no tag on it. Causality Engine's own pay-per-report page concedes it: with meaningful offline or retail spend, an online-only read misses the channels that matter most. If a fifth of your budget goes to TV, that sentence decides the page.
Weeks of onboarding, or minutes of upload
Rockerbox's plans FAQ says most companies set up the data foundation "often within a few weeks". MMM and testing need more history, or a test to finish. Causality Engine runs on history already collected, so the money spent last quarter is readable today. Neither is wrong. They suit different calendars.
The money, checked on 27 October 2026
Causality Engine lists one read at €99, refundable within 30 days. Pro is €299 a month, billed monthly and cancellable at the end of any billing month. Enterprise is a 90-day pilot on a custom quote. All exclude VAT, per its pricing page. Pro pulls GA4 in without uploads, keeps the whole history and answers questions about your own attribution in a chat.
Rockerbox lists no figure. Its plans page ends in "Talk to an Expert" and "Request a Demo". Its published client agreement bills in US dollars, payable within 30 days of each invoice.
Read the renewal clause before the rate card
That agreement runs for twelve months. Then it renews itself for successive twelve-month periods at Rockerbox's then-current rates. The exit is written notice from one side at least 30 days before the term ends (section 13.1 of the agreement). The default you accept at signing is a second year, priced at whatever the rate card says then. Put the notice date in the calendar the day you sign.
Causality Engine's own comparison, the vs Rockerbox page, is the owner's view and grades its own homework, so read it as such. Its advice is to keep Rockerbox and add a read on top.
Choose Causality Engine if your job is
- Splitting next month's budget across Meta, Google, TikTok, email and organic, on a store whose sales happen online and land in GA4.
- Getting a causal answer before you decide whether an enterprise platform is worth a procurement cycle.
- Checking what each channel caused once a quarter without a contract, a pixel or an onboarding call.
Choose Rockerbox if your job is
- Measuring podcasts, direct mail, influencers and linear TV next to digital, in one data foundation.
- Running designed incrementality tests with a vendor team that plans and reads them with you.
- Feeding a warehouse with a unified, user-level marketing dataset for your own analysts.

The free check, then the paid read
The free step works on its own. Drop your GA4 export on the start page and the preview shows the channels behind your Direct traffic. The privacy policy says that preview reads the file in your browser and does not upload it. Then run the by-hand test the read would suggest anyway. Lower spend on one channel in one region for 14 days, and compare revenue with the regions you left alone.
If the preview and the test disagree with your dashboards, the paid path is short. Causality Engine, which I founded, sells the full read for €99 at app.causalityengine.ai/start. It gives every channel's caused share next to last-click, its data-health score and a next step. The how-it-works page shows the method, and Pro at €299 a month runs the same model continuously. Where spend is too small for a signal, the read says so: a channel under 1% of credit on both methods is called too small to act on.
FAQ
Can Causality Engine and Rockerbox run side by side?
Yes. Causality Engine installs nothing, so Rockerbox's pixel and integrations stay as they are. Its home page calls it "a layer, not a migration". The one condition is that GA4 runs on the store.
Does Rockerbox publish its prices?
No. On 27 October 2026 its plans page routed every product to a demo, with no figure on the page.
Which one measures TV and direct mail?
Rockerbox. Its plans page names linear TV and direct mail among the hard-to-track channels it covers. Causality Engine reads only what GA4 records, and says so.
