How to Use ClickFunnels to Add an Order Bump and Upsell

The short answer: if you sell one offer and every buyer pays once and leaves, ClickFunnels' Launch plan at $97 a month covers the whole fix: create the product and the add-on, build a funnel with a checkout and an upsell step, mark the add-on as an order bump, connect Payments AI, push a test order through in Test mode, switch the funnel to Live, then split-test one step at a time.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

The job: a buyer reaches your checkout already decided. ClickFunnels puts a small add-on on that page and a bigger offer on the page after payment, both without code. For what the platform is and costs, see the ClickFunnels glossary entry.

Before you build:

  1. Work out what a bump is worth to you. For example, with a $47 main offer and a $17 add-on taken by one buyer in five, the bump adds $17 / 5 = $3.40 per order, before the Payments AI rate of 2.9% + $0.30 per charge in the payments guide.
  2. Start from what you sell today. Your current product, its price and its thank-you email become the main product and the first follow-up. The add-on should be something buyers already ask for after purchase.
  3. Decide the measure now. Orders, the share of orders with the bump, and upsell acceptances, read per step in the funnel analytics dashboard for two weeks before and after.

What you need

  • A ClickFunnels account. The pricing page offers a 14-day trial; Launch is $97 billed monthly (checked on 26 October 2026).
  • Payments AI, or test mode. The upsell article lists a configured Payments AI account as a requirement. If you are not ready for live payments, the payments guide offers a test mode setup.
  • A domain, optionally. Without one, the pricing FAQ says you get a free yourdomain.myclickfunnels.com address.

Step 1: Create both products

Products are global in ClickFunnels: made once, reused in any funnel. Go to Products, All Products, click Create Product, choose Physical or Digital, enter the name and description, then pick a price type (one time, subscription or payment plan), as the checkout article describes. Do it twice: the main offer and the add-on. A third product for the upsell can come later.

Step 2: Create the funnel

Click Funnels, then Create Funnel. You can pick a template and click Customize Now, start from scratch with a name and a path, or create with AI, per the new funnel guide.

Step 3: Let the AI draft the pages, and read them before buyers do

Build with AI takes a description such as "I sell a $47 course on bookkeeping for freelancers" and builds designed pages with copy. Research mode studies the market first and recommends a funnel type. The Build with AI article says team admins have access by default and other members need the AI User role.

The same article warns that changes made through the AI sidebar go live immediately. So draft in a funnel that is not yet in Live mode, click Preview, and create a share link for the person who signs off the copy. Nothing reaches a buyer until that person has read every claim the AI wrote about your product.

Step 4: Add the checkout and attach the product

In the funnel, click the plus node where the checkout belongs, choose Page, then the Order category, and create the page. Order templates include the Smart Checkout element. A red exclamation mark on the green Products icon means no product is attached yet: open the three-dot menu, choose Add Products and select the main offer, per the product guide.

Step 5: Mark the add-on as an order bump

Attach the add-on to the same checkout, click its gear icon, tick "Product is an Order Bump", write a short preheadline and click Update Included Product. The checkout article is clear that a bump cannot stand alone: the page needs a main product first.

Step 6: Add the upsell after payment

Hover after the checkout, click the plus circle, choose Page and the OTO (Upsell/Downsell) category. Attach the upsell product from the three-dot menu. A page you build yourself needs a Checkout element to take the purchase, per the upsell article. A downsell page for buyers who decline can follow it.

Step 7: Connect payments

Open the Set Up Payments dialog from the Store page, the Products page or the getting-started checklist, choose Payments AI and follow the steps. An existing Stripe account connects inside Payments AI, per the payments guide. Set the workspace currency under Workspace Settings, General, Payment Settings; a workspace has one.

Step 8: Push a test order through

In the funnel's Settings, set Payments Mode to Test, keep Credit Card selected and click Update Funnel. Preview the checkout and pay with 4111-1111-1111-1111, any future date and any three-digit CVV, as the test mode article sets out. Take the bump, accept the upsell, then check Customers, Orders: test orders carry a yellow banner. PayPal has no test mode and appears only once the funnel is Live.

Step 9: Go live

Run the publishing checklist: the right domain, the pages in order, products on the checkout with the correct prices, workflows attached. Then set Payments Mode to Live, click Update Funnel and copy the URL.

Step 10: Split-test one step

On the checkout, open the three-dot menu, choose Split test page and duplicate the page. ClickFunnels starts every test at 100% to the original and 0% to the variant, so move the slider and click Apply Change, per the split testing guide. One variant per step is the limit, and the guide recommends running at least 30 days.

What ClickFunnels' own guides warn about

  • A bump with no main product. It will not work alone.
  • Launching in Test mode. The test article's tip is to disable it before real buyers arrive.
  • A split test that never splits. The default 100%-0% sends nobody to the variant, per the split testing guide.
  • Sharing the page URL on a first-step test. The guide says to share the funnel's root URL, which serves both variants without a redirect.
  • Deleting test orders carelessly. Bulk deletion is permanent, and an optional box also removes live draft orders.

An AI assistant whose edits publish at once gets a new account selling within its trial, which is the vendor's milestone; your milestone is a funnel a person has read, so keep the AI on the draft.

Once the funnel runs, an assistant can report on it. The MCP server guide lets you choose Read only when you connect Claude or ChatGPT, so it can look up funnels, products and contacts and report on them without changing anything.

FAQ

Can I build the funnel before I have a payment gateway?

Yes. The payments guide offers a test mode setup that creates a test account, so you can build and test the checkout and switch to live payments later.

How long should a checkout split test run?

At least 30 days, according to the split testing guide, so the split percentages settle.

Can I offer more than one bump?

The checkout settings let you choose how bump products are selected, singly or several with checkboxes, per the product guide. Start with one, so the measure stays readable.
