How to Use REVIEWS.io to Get Star Ratings in Google Shopping

The short answer: a Shopify store needs at least 50 product reviews, with at least 3 on a product, before REVIEWS.io can put star ratings on its Google Shopping listings, and the plan that sends them is Start-Up at $79 a month on monthly billing for up to 1,000 invitations (Google integration article, pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). The steps: match product identifiers with Merchant Center, connect Shopify, activate a product review template, time the Flow, invite past buyers with Review Booster, install the widgets, switch on Product Ratings in Merchant Center, then read the collection rate weekly.

The job: Shopping ads without stars sit next to competitors' ads with them. The stars come from a product ratings feed, the feed comes from reviews, and the reviews come from asking every buyer at the right moment. What the product is and costs is in the REVIEWS.io glossary entry.
Do the arithmetic first:
- How many invitations 50 reviews take. For example, at a 4% collection rate, inside the 3 to 6% most customers see according to the REVIEWS.io homepage FAQ, 50 reviews need 50 / 0.04 = 1,250 invitations. That is more than a month of Start-Up's 1,000, so plan on two billing months, or start on the 1,500-order step at $90.
- The identifiers you already hold. Every product needs a GTIN, or an MPN plus a brand, matching exactly between REVIEWS.io and your Merchant Center feed. Check this in your Shopify export before paying for anything.
- The readings that say it worked. The collection rate each week, the count of products with three or more reviews, and Product Ratings status in Merchant Center.
What you need
- Admin access to the Shopify store and to Google Merchant Center.
- A REVIEWS.io account on Start-Up or above, which is also the plan Review Booster needs, per the Review Booster article.
- An order export with customer name, email, order ID and SKU for the last few months.
Step 1: Match the product identifiers
In Shopify, fill GTINs (barcodes) for every product, or MPN and brand where there is no GTIN. After connecting, compare a sample of products in REVIEWS.io's product catalogue with the same products in Merchant Center. The Google integration article names mismatched identifiers as the reason stars show on some products and not others.
Step 2: Connect Shopify and activate the template
In the REVIEWS.io dashboard, go to Integrations, Shopify, enter the store URL and click Install, per the Shopify getting-started guide. Only published products sync, and the feed refreshes every 24 hours. Keep the default trigger, Fulfilled; Delivered works only if your courier reports delivery to Shopify. Then create a product review invitation template and switch it to Active, because the guide warns that an inactive template never sends.
Step 3: Time the Flow
Under Invitations, Flow, set the delay to the time a buyer needs to try the product. The homepage FAQ suggests 3 to 5 days for consumables, 7 to 14 for standard goods and 14 to 21 for considered purchases such as furniture, with 7 days as the default. Delays in Country Settings add to the Flow's, per How Review Invitations Work, so set one or the other. A reminder to non-reviewers after at least five days needs the Grow plan, per the follow-up Flow article.
Step 4: Invite past buyers with Review Booster
Waiting for new orders is slow. Under Invitations, Review Booster, Email Review Booster, upload a CSV with headings in the first row and the columns customer name, email, order ID and SKU, mark the SKU column as the product identifier, and check that product images appear next to each SKU before sending. Products on the same order merge into one email. Note that a Booster sent through a Flow goes out that day, ignoring the Flow's delay, so only include orders old enough to have been used.
Step 5: Install the widgets
Under Integrations, Shopify, Automated Widget Install, start the installation, then publish the theme marked [REVIEWS.IO] in Shopify, or use App Embeds on a 2.0 theme. Install once: the display troubleshooting guide lists a snippet added both by app embed and by hand as a reason reviews do not show, and says a theme's own rating snippet should come out of the product template. Widgets show only after the first review arrives.
Step 6: Switch on Product Ratings in Merchant Center
In Merchant Center, go to Growth, Manage programmes and enable Product Ratings. REVIEWS.io submits the feed itself once you qualify, so there is no upload. Allow up to four weeks after reaching 50 reviews; after that, the article's checks are the active programme and matching identifiers.
Step 7: Read the reviews with the AI assistant
On Grow and above, the AI Assistant answers plain questions about your reviews: "What do buyers say about sizing on the linen shirt?" or "Are customers happy with delivery?" It reads the reviews for you and cites them. The article's own rule is the human check: verify key findings against the reviews it cites before changing a product page or a supplier. On Plus, Auto-Generated Replies drafts a public reply per review in your past tone, and nothing posts until you click Post Public Reply, per the replies article.
Where it goes wrong, per the support centre
- The invitation quota. When a plan's monthly allowance runs out, sending pauses until it resets; queued invitations are not lost.
- Reviews from the widget form. Reviews submitted through a product widget are unmoderated by default and do not display until you approve them; invited reviews publish automatically.
- A star filter. Holding back low ratings is what EU rules on consumer reviews in the Omnibus Directive are aimed at, and the auto-publishing article publishes pending reviews after 14 days regardless.
- Caching. A new widget can take up to an hour to show, and a remapped SKU up to three hours.
The trial, and the invoice behind the stars
Steps 1 to 5 can be done on the 14-day trial, and step 1 costs nothing even without an account: if your identifiers do not match Merchant Center, no plan fixes that. The trial does not reach the goal, though. It sends 25 invitations whatever plan you pick, per How Review Invitations Work, which cannot produce the 50 reviews Google needs, so the stars this whole job is for appear only after the first invoice has been paid.
FAQ
How long until stars show in Shopping ads?
Once you pass 50 product reviews and the product has three or more, REVIEWS.io submits the feed and Google can take up to four weeks, per the Google integration article.
Are seller ratings the same thing?
No. Seller Ratings are stars for the shop in Google Ads, and they need 100 verified company reviews per country from the last 12 months. Collect company reviews alongside product reviews with a combined template if you want both.
Will a past buyer get several emails from Review Booster?
No. Products on one order merge into one email, and a customer gets at most one company review invitation every three months, per the Review Booster article.
