How to Use Runable to Run a Weekly Competitor Watch

The short answer: list the competitor pages you care about, write the request in plain words with the output format you want, schedule it weekly for Monday morning, send the result to email or a connected Slack channel, keep later runs in the same chat so each builds on the last, and check every claimed change against the live page before anyone acts on it. If you already spend an hour on Monday clicking through three to five competitor sites, this is the job to hand over first, and Runable's free tier grants 1,500 credits a day to try it, per its FAQ.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Runable's own scheduled-task page uses this job as an example: "Check my competitors' websites and tell me about new products and pricing changes", every Monday at 9:00 AM (scheduled tasks). This guide turns that sentence into something a sales or marketing team can rely on. For what the product is and costs, see the Runable glossary entry.

Inputs before the first run:

  1. A budget you can check. Neither the pricing page nor the FAQ says how many credits a run costs, so measure it. For example, if your first run shows 3,000 credits under Token Usage, four Monday runs = 12,000 credits a month, inside the free tier's monthly cap of 15,000 (FAQ).
  2. The pages you already watch. Three to five competitors, and for each the URLs that change when something matters: pricing, product or features, changelog, and the careers page if hiring tells you where they are going.
  3. A test of usefulness. After four runs, count the changes the report caught that someone acted on. If the answer is none, change the pages or stop the task.

1. Write the request in your own words

Open Runable and describe the task the way you would brief a colleague; the scheduled-task page says to write it "in your own words, just like asking someone for help" (scheduled tasks). The page's FAQ adds that you should tell it what information to use and what you want it to produce, and that some tasks need a connected app or access to your files.

A request that works better than the vendor's one-liner names the pages and the shape of the answer:

Every week, visit these pages: [your list of URLs]. Report only what changed since the last run: prices, plan names, new or removed features, new product pages. For each change, give the URL, the old value if you saw it before, the new value, and one line on why it matters to a buyer comparing them with your product. If nothing changed, say so in one line.

2. Choose when it runs

Pick how often and at what time: once, daily, weekdays, weekly or monthly (scheduled tasks). Weekly on Monday morning fits a Monday sales or marketing meeting. Runable uses your local time when you set up the task, so 8:00 AM means your morning.

3. Choose where the report lands

Updates can go to email, the mobile app, iMessage, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord or Telegram, and to more than one place. Chat apps need to be connected first and mobile notifications need the Runable app (scheduled tasks). Connect Slack through plugins, which Runable says authorise in one click (plugins). Send it to the person who owns competitive notes, not to a busy channel, until the report has earned trust.

4. Keep the context between runs

Continue in the same chat so the next run can build on earlier work (scheduled tasks). That is what makes "since the last run" mean something: the agent can compare this week's prices with what it reported last week rather than starting from nothing.

5. Check the agent's claims before they travel

This is the step that turns an AI summary into competitive intelligence. The agent reads the pages and writes the report; a person opens every URL it cites and confirms each change before it goes into a sales note, a pricing decision or a board slide. Price pages are exactly where a misread toggle between monthly and yearly billing produces a wrong number, so ask for the URL with each change and check those first. Keep a short log of confirmed changes in your own document, outside the chat.

6. Run it from Claude or ChatGPT, if you work there

Runable has a remote MCP server at https://api.runable.com/api/mcp. Add it in your assistant's MCP or connector settings, sign in to Runable and approve the access, then ask the assistant to start a task, check its progress, send a follow-up or stop it (MCP setup). The assistant uses your Runable account's access, and you can remove the connection under Settings, Connected Apps.

7. Watch the credits after each run

Your balance shows in the app header, with detailed usage under Settings in the Token Usage tab (FAQ). Free daily credits reset every day and do not carry over, and once 15,000 have been used in a month no more are granted until the next. If the Monday run needs more, Pro adds 25,000 credits a month for $20 on monthly billing, checked on 24 October 2026 on the pricing page, and top-up credits never expire.

What Runable's pages say to watch

  • Unconnected apps. Some tasks need a connected app or file access, and chat destinations must be connected before results can arrive there (scheduled tasks).
  • The preview is not a task. The interactive schedule on Runable's scheduled-tasks page is a preview that creates no task and sends no notifications.
  • Credits that vanish overnight. Daily credits do not carry over, so a task you only run on Mondays cannot bank the other six days (FAQ).
  • Plan changes take time. Downgrades start at the next billing cycle, upgrades at once (FAQ).

A scheduled task is designed to keep running, and a subscription is designed to keep renewing. Decide at the fourth report, against the test you set, whether this job deserves either.

FAQ

Can I change or pause the task later?

Yes. The scheduled-task page says you can edit, pause or remove a task when it no longer fits (scheduled tasks).

Which Runable features suit other marketing jobs?

The curated workflows include a post writer, a newsletter creator, a brand reputation analysis, a website audit and sales prep for a named company (workflows).

Does the subscription renew automatically?

Yes, at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel first from the manage subscription dialog on the pricing page (FAQ).
