The short answer: if your team narrates screen recordings, product demos, onboarding clips and slide decks, and tweaks the delivery many times before sign-off, Murf AI's Creator plan at $29 a month for 2 hours of voice generation fits, because changing voice, speed, pitch or pauses on text you have not edited costs no generation time (Murf pricing, VGT article, checked on 26 October 2026). If you want your own voice on a self-serve plan, or narration plus dubbing and music from one budget, ElevenLabs fits: Instant Voice Cloning starts on Starter at $6 a month and Creator at $22 lists about 121 minutes of speech (ElevenLabs pricing). Murf wins the timed demo; ElevenLabs wins the brand voice.

Price a script, not a plan:
- Count the retakes, then the minutes. For example, a 600-word demo script renders in about 600 / 1,000 x 6 = 3.6 minutes of Murf time, using Murf's rule of 6 minutes per 1,000 words, and auditioning it afterwards in three voices at two speeds adds nothing, since restyling unchanged text is free (VGT article). On ElevenLabs, assuming six characters a word including spaces, the same script is 3,600 credits per full render at 1 credit per character, so six full versions in different voices are 6 x 3,600 = 21,600 credits, 18% of Creator's 121,000 (pricing FAQ).
- Start from the recordings you already have. A finished screen recording goes straight onto Murf's timeline. An older narrated video can be transcribed into timed blocks with Audio to Text, which Murf lists from Business up (Murf pricing). One to two minutes of clean audio of your founder is enough for an ElevenLabs Instant Voice Clone (cloning guide); on Murf, cloning is an Enterprise add-on.
- Measure the edit, not the voice. Note how many days it takes today to change one line in a published demo after a product rename. Either tool has to shrink that number.

Three ways they part
A timeline for pictures, or a pool for sound
Murf's Studio is organised around a timeline: voice blocks set against video, image and music blocks, timed by speed, pauses and trimming (sync guide), with the meter counting minutes of speech you render. ElevenLabs' meter is shared: the same credits pay for speech, music at 900 a minute, transcription at 330 a minute and dubbing from 2,000 a minute (pricing FAQ). A team that only narrates gets a cleaner budget from Murf. A team that also scores and dubs gets more from one pool, and ElevenLabs rolls unused credits over for up to two months.
Whose voice it is
Murf keeps voice cloning behind Enterprise, as an add-on (Murf pricing). ElevenLabs sells it from the $6 plan, with a consent confirmation in the clone dialog (cloning guide). If the narrator must be your head of product, only one of the two does it without a sales call. The consent paperwork and the AI Act Article 50 label for a cloned voice are set out in the AI voiceover use case.
How many hands touch a project
Each self-serve Murf plan has one editor; Sharing & Collaboration sits on Enterprise (Murf pricing). ElevenLabs adds team collaboration and 3 workspace seats on Scale at $299 (ElevenLabs pricing). A review loop with three people costs more than either entry price suggests.
What a month costs
Murf Studio (pricing): Free with 10 minutes; Creator $29 a month billed monthly with 2 hours a month, or $19 a month billed yearly ($228) with 24 hours a year; Business $99 monthly with 8 hours, or $66 yearly ($792) with 96 hours; Enterprise quoted. The API is billed separately: $10 of free credit, then $0.03 per 1,000 characters for Gen2 speech and $0.02 per 1,000 for translation (API pricing).
ElevenLabs (pricing): Free with 10,000 credits; Starter $6; Creator $22 with 121,000 credits; Pro $99 with 600,000; Scale $299 with 1.8 million. Annual billing charges ten months for twelve.
Per hour of narration, Creator against Creator: $29 / 2 = $14.50 on Murf and about $22 / 2 = $11 on ElevenLabs, before retakes, which is where the gap can flip.
One automation step: a script translated, then read by a person
Murf's official n8n node runs four operations on the Murf API: text to speech, voice changing, translation and dubbing (n8n integration). Set an n8n Google Drive Trigger to watch for new files in a "scripts" folder (trigger docs), pass each new English script to the Murf node's Translation operation, and save the German text as a new file for review. A second workflow, watching an "approved" folder, sends the reviewed text to Murf's Text to Speech operation and stores the audio. The human check is the move between folders: a German-speaking colleague reads the translation against the English, fixes product names and claims, and only then drags it into "approved". Nothing is voiced that nobody local has read.
Choose Murf AI if your job is
- Narrating screen recordings, demos and slides where timing against the picture matters.
- Trying many voices, speeds and pauses on a locked script without watching a meter.
- Automating voiceovers and translation through n8n, Zapier or Make on a pay-as-you-go API.
Choose ElevenLabs if your job is
- A cloned founder or spokesperson voice on a self-serve plan.
- Narration, dubbing, music and sound effects from one monthly budget.
- Publishing in many languages, with credits that carry over a quiet month.

The same paragraph, on both free plans
Take the first 150 words of your next demo script and the screen recording that goes with it. Murf's free plan gives 10 minutes of generation with everything except downloads, so you can build and time it on the timeline (Murf pricing); ElevenLabs' free 10,000 credits voice the same words in two or three voices (ElevenLabs pricing). Play both against the recording for the product owner; neither free plan carries commercial rights, so it stays internal.
Every self-serve Murf plan comes with one editor seat, and the collaboration that a review loop needs is listed only on Enterprise, so the day a second colleague has to edit the demo is the day Murf's pricing moves from a card price to a quote (Murf pricing). Count your editors before you count minutes.
FAQ
Which has more voices to choose from?
ElevenLabs, by a distance: its library lists 17,500+ voices (homepage), against 200+ voices, styles and tonalities in Murf Studio (Murf pricing). A demo needs one voice that says your product names right, so audition on your own script.
Do Murf's yearly hours run out monthly?
No. Murf's pricing FAQ says yearly plans have no monthly limit, only a yearly total, so Creator's 24 hours a year can go mostly into a launch month (Murf pricing). Payments already made are not refunded, per the same FAQ, so size the year before you buy it.
Which is cheaper for one 3-minute demo a month?
On the free plans, neither can publish. Paid, ElevenLabs Starter at $6 covers about 30 minutes of speech a month, and Murf Creator at $29 covers 2 hours (ElevenLabs pricing, Murf pricing). For one short demo, ElevenLabs is cheaper unless you need Murf's timeline.
