The short answer: for voiceovers, compare Murf with Speechify Studio, not with the Speechify reader app, which is licensed for personal listening only (Speechify terms). If your team voices a steady stream of training or social videos and can commit for a year, Speechify Studio Starter is the cheaper hour: $100 a year for 86,400 credits at 1 credit per second, 24 hours of voiceover (Studio pricing). If the work comes in bursts, or the script gets restyled many times before sign-off, Murf fits better: Creator is $29 for one month with 2 hours, and changing voice, speed or pitch on unchanged text costs nothing (Murf pricing, VGT article). All read on 26 October 2026.

Check these on paper:

  1. The hour, priced three ways. For example, Speechify Studio Starter is $100 / 24 = $4.17 an hour of voiceover, Murf Creator billed yearly is $228 / 24 = $9.50, and Murf Creator for a single month is $29 / 2 = $14.50 (Studio pricing, Murf pricing). If you need four hours this year, two months of Murf at $58 cost less than any year.
  2. Your scripts, and how often they change. A script that is locked before recording favours Speechify's meter. A script that product, legal and brand will each want read back faster, slower or warmer favours Murf, because Speechify Studio charges again for pitch, speed or emotional changes and only volume tweaks and re-exports are free (Studio pricing).
  3. One number to watch. Average view duration of the voiced video against the last version without a voice, on the same channel, over 28 days.

From the Murf Studio pricing tab, Murf's VGT article and dubbing credits article, and the Speechify Studio pricing page with its FAQ, all read on 26 October 2026.

The three differences that count

Paying for a calendar, or for a month

Murf sells both: Creator at $29 for a month, or $19 a month paid as $228 for the year, and its FAQ says yearly plans have no monthly cap, only a yearly total (Murf pricing). Speechify Studio's paid plans are priced by the year. A team voicing two launches a year can rent Murf for those two months; a team voicing every week gets more hours per dollar from Speechify's year.

What a second opinion costs

Murf charges voice generation time only when text is new or edited; a different voice actor, style, pitch, speed, pause or emphasis on the same text is free (VGT article). Speechify meters each new generation, including pitch, speed and prosody changes (Studio pricing). For example, a 5-minute video at 300 credits a render, played back in three other deliveries for the brand team, costs 4 x 300 = 1,200 Speechify credits, 1.4% of Starter's 86,400. Small per video, but it is the habit, not the video, that the meter charges.

Where the extras sit

Speechify keeps voiceover, dubbing and AI avatars in one Studio credit pool, at 1, 3 and 30 credits a second (Studio pricing). Murf splits them: Studio for voiceover, Murf Dub with its own credits, and an API priced per 1,000 characters (API pricing). One budget line is simpler to own; separate meters let you buy only the part you use.

One AI step: a demo dubbed, then corrected by a native speaker

Murf Dub translates and re-voices an uploaded video automatically, at 2 credits per minute of file per language, with durations rounded up to the next 30 seconds; pay-as-you-go credits cost $1 each, with a $5 minimum (dubbing credits, Dub pricing). For example, a 3-minute demo into German and Dutch is 3 x 2 x 2 = 12 credits, $12. The human check: before export, a colleague who speaks each language reads the translated script, and every product or feature name the AI translated or misheard is fixed across both transcript and translation with Replace Word (edit dub article). Murf Dub's free trial gives 200 credits with a watermark (Dub free trial), enough to run this on a real video first. A dubbed voice that resembles a real presenter raises the consent and AI Act Article 50 questions covered in the AI voiceover use case.

Choose Murf AI if your job is

  • Voiceovers that come in bursts, bought one month at a time.
  • Scripts that get restyled for several reviewers before sign-off.
  • Timing narration against a screen recording on a timeline, or automating it through Murf's API.

Choose Speechify if your job is

  • A steady weekly stream of voiceovers, bought as one yearly line at the lowest hourly price.
  • Voiceover, dubbing and avatars drawing on one Studio balance.
  • A reading app for your own documents as well, on a separate Premium subscription.

Plans and setup: the Murf AI entry and the Speechify entry.

Ten free minutes on each

Both studios give you about ten minutes for nothing: Murf's free plan has 10 minutes of generation with everything except downloads, and Speechify Studio's free plan has 600 credits, which at 1 credit a second is 10 minutes (Murf pricing, Studio pricing). Voice the same 90-second script on both, then ask for two delivery changes on each and watch which meter moves. Neither free plan carries commercial rights, so the result is for the room, not the channel.

Speechify Studio's plan cards are priced by the year, $100 and $300, so a team that needs one explainer this quarter pays for twelve months of credits it has no script for, and Speechify holds the year's money from the first day (Studio pricing). If your calendar shows two launches, rent Murf for those two months instead.

FAQ

Is Speechify Studio included in Speechify Premium?

No. The Studio FAQ calls the reader and Studio two different subscriptions, and the terms reserve commercial use for the Voice Over Studio (Studio pricing, terms).

Can I clone my own voice on either?

On Murf, custom voice clones are an Enterprise add-on (Murf pricing). Speechify's terms forbid deceptive voice clones made without the consent of the person whose voice is copied (terms); its API clones only with a consent phrase the speaker reads aloud (cloning quickstart).

Does Murf refund an unused year?

No. Murf's pricing FAQ says payments already made against monthly or annual subscriptions are not refunded; cancelling stops the next charge and keeps access to the end of the cycle (Murf pricing).
