The short answer: if several people sell over WhatsApp and Instagram, a clinic group, a travel agency or a dealership, respond.io is built for that floor: Growth costs $199 a month on monthly billing for 1,000 monthly active contacts with 10 users, AI agents and HubSpot included (respond.io pricing). If one or two people have to keep up with thousands of commenters, ManyChat is built for reach: Pro is $39 a month for 2,500 people who interact, with three users (ManyChat Pro plan). Both checked on 26 October 2026. The number of people answering decides this more than the number of messages.

Before you switch:
- Price the team, not just the audience. For example, 2,400 contacts a month answered by eight people. respond.io Growth at the 2,500 tier is $299, with 10 users included (pricing). On ManyChat, eight inbox seats need Advanced: $199 with 5 seats, plus 3 x $25 = $75, so $274 (Advanced plan). Pro would cover the contacts for $39 but stops at three seats.
- Map the inbox you run today. Who answers WhatsApp, who answers Instagram, who owns the CRM record. If one person does all three, the routing respond.io sells has nobody to route to yet.
- Pick the stage that counts as a sale. respond.io records a lifecycle stage on every contact; ManyChat tags contacts and shows Active Contacts by date range in Insights. Decide which stage or tag means "qualified" and count last month's by hand.

From the respond.io pricing page and its FAQ, and ManyChat's Pro and Advanced plan articles. ManyChat's inbox seats beyond those included cost $25 each.
Where the two part company
Reach or routing
ManyChat's plans add contacts fast and seats slowly: 25,000 people on Advanced, but ten inbox seats at most (Advanced plan). respond.io does the reverse, with 10 users on Growth and contact tiers that climb from 1,000 to 2,500 to 5,000 at $199, $299 and $399 a month (pricing). If your bottleneck is answering, the team product fits. If it is reaching, the automation product does.
What happens to a comment
ManyChat treats a comment as a trigger: a keyword under a post or reel sends a DM, a public reply and whatever flow you built, on one post, all posts or the next one you publish (Auto-DM links guide). respond.io's Auto Private Replies send one private message per comment, on all content or on chosen posts, within 7 days of the comment, and a commenter becomes a Contact only after replying (Auto Private Replies). One is a funnel; the other is a greeting that opens the inbox.
Who sets the WhatsApp rate
respond.io says WhatsApp fees are not part of any subscription and that Meta charges them by usage, topped up inside the platform (pricing FAQ). ManyChat charges its own card from a wallet. For Spanish numbers, ManyChat lists $0.0813 per marketing message and $0.0230 per utility message (ManyChat WhatsApp guide), where Meta's USD rate card lists $0.0707 and $0.02 (Meta pricing). For example, 5,000 order updates sent as utility templates cost 5,000 x $0.0230 = $115 at ManyChat's rate and 5,000 x $0.02 = $100 at Meta's. The 24-hour window, templates and opt-in rules are unchanged by either tool, and the DM agent use case sets them out.
Monthly prices, checked on 26 October 2026
respond.io, from its pricing page: Starter $99 for 5 users with unlimited contacts but no AI agents; Growth $199, $299 or $399 at 1,000, 2,500 or 5,000 contacts; Advanced $349, $529 or $699 at the same tiers. Yearly billing brings Starter, Growth and Advanced at the first tier to $79, $159 and $279 a month.
ManyChat, from its plan articles: Pro $39, Business $99 for 7,500 people with five users (Business plan), Advanced $199. Annual billing brings them to $29, $69 and $139 a month, the figures its pricing page showed in the one read it allowed that day.
An agent that moves the lifecycle stage
respond.io's AI agents come with skills, among them Close conversation, Assign to agent or team and Update Lifecycle stage (AI agent guide). Use the third one narrowly. Write into the instructions the exact answers that make a lead Qualified, say budget, date and destination for a travel agency, and let the agent move a contact from New Lead to Qualified and assign it to the sales team in the same turn. A new agent starts Inactive, so test it on your own number first.
The rep who receives the conversation is the check: they confirm the stage before calling, and move it back if the agent was generous. Count those reversals weekly. If more than a handful come back, tighten the instructions before letting the agent near the Instagram inbox as well.
Try before you pay
The free route is a week of real conversations on each. respond.io's trial needs no card (pricing); ManyChat's Free plan connects Instagram and one more channel for 25 Active Contacts (Free plan), and its Pro trial runs 14 days. Run the same week of inbound traffic through each and count qualified leads per agent hour.
Read respond.io's trial terms before planning that week. The free days include every Growth feature except broadcasts, and topping up a WhatsApp Business Account needs a subscription (pricing FAQ), so the two things that cost money to send are the two you can only test once you are paying.
