The short answer: for a 12-person marketing team that wants one AI coworker taking requests in its Slack channels and acting in its tools, Viktor's Team plan costs $100 a month for 40,000 credits shared by everyone, with no seat charge (Viktor pricing). ChatGPT Business gives each of those 12 people a seat at $25 a month billed monthly, $300 in all, and adds @ChatGPT and workspace agents in Slack once an admin sets them up (OpenAI business pricing). Both checked on 26 October 2026. Choose Viktor if your job is a shared operator in the channel; choose ChatGPT if your job is a personal assistant for every writer and analyst.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Viktor is one AI employee per workspace: you DM or mention it in Slack, Microsoft Teams or Discord, it acts across the tools you connect, 9,800+ by its count, and every request draws on shared credits (Viktor pricing, plans and credits). ChatGPT is OpenAI's assistant, priced per person: free for everyone, Plus at $20 a month, and Business seats for teams of 2 to 200 (ChatGPT Plus, business pricing). On Business it reaches Slack two ways: @ChatGPT, an assistant your administrator configures for channels, and workspace agents placed in channels through the ChatGPT Agents app (ChatGPT with Slack and Teams, Agents app in Slack).

Price both before the pilot:

  1. Seats against a pool. For example, 12 people on ChatGPT Business standard seats cost 12 x $25 = $300 a month billed monthly, or 12 x $20 = $240 a month on annual billing (business pricing). Viktor's $100 Team plan covers all 12, since seats are not counted (Viktor pricing).
  2. Credits translated into work. Viktor's pricing page puts a quick task at 100 to 300 credits and a complex workflow at 500 to 1,500. For example, 40,000 / 300 = 133 quick tasks a month at the heavy end, or 40,000 / 1,500 = 26 complex ones (Viktor pricing).
  3. The channel you already have. Pick the Slack channel where requests pile up today and note who answers them now.
  4. The number you will check. Viktor's Usage page lists what each conversation and scheduled task cost (check usage); ChatGPT Business includes usage analytics and spend controls (business pricing). Count requests closed per week, before and after.

Where they differ

Who pays when everyone asks

Viktor's pool means a new colleague costs nothing until they start asking, and then every request spends the same credits; per-user spend caps arrive only on Enterprise (Viktor pricing). ChatGPT charges each seat whether or not it is used, and Business workspaces can buy credits beyond the included limits (Business overview). A few heavy users favour the pool; a whole team of heavy users makes the seat easier to forecast.

Who shapes the channel assistant

@ChatGPT runs through a service account whose instructions and connections an administrator sets. It does not inherit your file access, keeps no memory at launch, and does not answer Slack guests or work in Slack Connect channels (using @ChatGPT). A workspace agent gets its own Slack handle and channels. Viktor replies to whoever mentions it in a channel it has joined, and admins decide who may connect new apps and whether each connection is shared or private (talk to Viktor, integration permissions).

What happens before a write

Viktor prepares sensitive actions as drafts behind an approval card, and a card for a single tool offers "Always approve this tool", which turns the question off for later calls (approvals). ChatGPT's workspace agents ask before every app write by default, and builders can add action constraints, such as allowing emails only to one domain (workspace agents).

One intake channel, triaged by an agent

The job: requests land in #marketing-requests half-formed, and nobody owns the first reply. On Viktor, ask for an event trigger on that channel: for each new message, ask the requester for what is missing, then create a task in your project tool, whose create action is set to Ask for confirmation so a person approves each card. Viktor test-fires a new automation before it goes live, capturing chat messages and blocking writes by default (event triggers). On ChatGPT, build a workspace agent, add the channel with "Respond to all relevant messages", and give it the project app if your workspace has it enabled or a custom MCP; its write actions wait on Always ask unless someone changes that (Agents app in Slack, workspace agents). Each event can start its own AI run, so Viktor's docs suggest a scheduled sweep when speed matters less.

Prices, checked on 26 October 2026

From Viktor's pricing page, its plans guide, OpenAI's business pricing and the ChatGPT Plus article, in USD per month:

PlanPriceWho it covers
Viktor Free$0, up to $100 of credits that never expireThe workspace
Viktor Team$100 for 40,000 credits, one month of rolloverThe workspace, no seat count
Viktor, other monthly plansFrom $50 for 20,000 credits, same rateThe workspace
ChatGPT Free$0One person
ChatGPT Plus$20, monthly billing onlyOne person
ChatGPT Business standard seat$25 monthly, $20 billed annuallyPer person, 2 seats minimum
ChatGPT Business premium seat$125 monthly, $100 billed annuallyPer person, 5x standard usage

When Viktor's starter credits run out, the workspace pauses until an admin picks a plan (running out of credits). The plans guide lists a 20,000-credit plan at $50, then notes that for some workspaces the smallest plan the picker offers is $100 (plans and credits). The pause lands just as the team has started to lean on the assistant, which is when a doubled entry price is easiest to accept. Open the plan picker in week one, while the free credits still cover the decision.

Choose Viktor if your job is

  • One coworker in shared channels that takes requests from anyone and acts in your tools.
  • Recurring reports and event-driven chores that run without a person starting them.
  • A team on Microsoft Teams or Discord as well as Slack.

Choose ChatGPT if your job is

  • Writing, research and analysis for each person, in their own chats and projects.
  • An assistant in Slack and Teams whose instructions IT sets centrally.
  • Agents built by your own team in ChatGPT, then shared to channels or triggered by API.

Try both for nothing first

Viktor starts with up to $100 of credits and asks for no card (Viktor pricing). ChatGPT's free version is open to everyone, though @ChatGPT and workspace agents in Slack need a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace (ChatGPT with Slack and Teams). Run a week of the intake channel on Viktor's starter credits, and paste the same ten requests into free ChatGPT by hand. If the pasted answers are good enough, the open question is only where the assistant should sit.

FAQ

Can ChatGPT Plus reach Slack?

As a connected source, where your plan, region and admin settings allow it: the Slack app in ChatGPT searches messages you can access and drafts recaps (Slack in ChatGPT). @ChatGPT inside Slack channels is for Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces.

Does Viktor charge per seat?

No. All plans share credits across the Slack or Teams workspace, and plans renew monthly; annual plans are no longer offered (plans and credits).

Can existing OpenAI code call Viktor?

Yes. Viktor's compatible API accepts the Chat Completions, Responses and Messages formats with the model ID viktor, so an app built on the OpenAI or Anthropic SDK can switch its base URL; API keys need a paid plan (compatible API).
