Agorapulse vs Hootsuite: Where Inbox Teamwork Starts

The short answer: if three people share one social inbox and pass conversations to each other, Agorapulse gives you assignment on Professional at $119 per user a month billed annually, and Hootsuite only on Advanced at $399, so the same three seats cost $357 against $1,197 a month (checked on 26 October 2026 on the Agorapulse and Hootsuite pricing pages). Hootsuite earns its price when the inbox is one part of a larger job: more than 10 profiles, listening, trend forecasts and benchmarks against up to 20 competitors.

Both vendors sell by the seat, so the question is not which is cheaper per person in general. It is which tier you are forced into by the one inbox feature you cannot work without.
Three numbers from your inbox first:
- Seats times the tier that holds your must-have. For example, four agents who need assignment pay 4 x $119 = $476 a month on Agorapulse Professional and 4 x $399 = $1,596 on Hootsuite Advanced, both billed annually (Agorapulse pricing, Hootsuite plans).
- The profiles you already answer on. Agorapulse's self-serve plans each hold 10 profiles, with extras at $10 a month each on annual billing or $15 on monthly; Hootsuite's limit of 10 applies to Standard only, and Professional is unlimited. A team on 14 profiles adds 4 x $10 = $40 a month at Agorapulse, per its pricing page.
- Last month's response time. Write down the median time to first reply and the share of messages nobody answered before you trial anything. A new inbox that does not move those two numbers in 30 days is a new login, not a better service.
Inbox jobs, plan by plan
The lowest plan on which each job appears, from the Agorapulse plan table and the Hootsuite feature table:
| Inbox job | Agorapulse | Hootsuite |
|---|---|---|
| Comments and DMs in one queue | Standard | Standard |
| Google reviews answered in the same inbox | Standard | Review monitoring is an Enterprise add-on |
| Hand an item to a named colleague | Professional | Advanced |
| A second person approves a reply before it goes live | Professional, one approver per workflow | Not listed; approval workflows cover posts |
| Saved replies | Advanced | Standard |
| Reply collision warning | Professional | Not listed |
| Team response reports | Professional | Advanced |
| Mask personal data in the inbox | Not listed | Standard |
| AI reply suggestions | Custom | Professional |
| CRM sync | HubSpot or Salesforce on Custom | Salesforce on Enterprise |
| Free trial | 30 days, no card, then a free plan | 14 days, no card, no free plan |
What separates them
The price of passing a message on
Assignment is the feature that turns a shared inbox into a team inbox, and the two ladders place it two tiers apart. Agorapulse adds it on Professional along with ad comment moderation and a team performance report. Hootsuite holds message assignment, skill-based routing, CSAT surveys and team productivity reporting together on Advanced, per its plan FAQ. If you need routing by skill across a dozen agents, Advanced is the right fit. If you need one person to hand a complaint to another, it is a lot of plan.
What else the seat buys
Hootsuite's Professional seat at $199 billed annually includes unlimited profiles, 30 days of Quick Search in its listening product, trend forecasts up to 90 days ahead, automated message responses and DM automations (Hootsuite plans). Agorapulse sells its Advanced Listening as an add-on you book a demo for, per its pricing page. So the comparison flips when the people in the inbox are also the people watching the market.
An AI reply with a second pair of eyes
Agorapulse's MCP guide lets Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot read inbox items, filter them by sentiment and reply. It also says that replies sent through the connector follow an active inbox approval workflow and are queued for approval instead of published. The approval workflow article sets the limits: on Professional and Advanced, one workflow pairs one team member with one approver, and only the Tailored plan can list an AI agent as a team member. A workable setup on Professional: the assistant drafts replies to negative comments under the covered colleague's login, and the approver reads each one in the To approve filter before it posts. Hootsuite's Nest connector on its MCP page triages and assigns from chat, and its help centre describes smart replies that a person accepts, rewrites or cancels before sending.
Prices, both billing options
Checked on 26 October 2026, in USD, per user per month:
- Agorapulse: Standard $79 billed annually or $99 monthly; Professional $119 or $149; Advanced $149 or $199; Custom on request (Agorapulse pricing).
- Hootsuite: Standard $99, Professional $199 and Advanced $399, all billed annually; Enterprise on request. The FAQ confirms monthly billing at a higher rate without printing it (Hootsuite plans).
If you will not commit for a year, request Hootsuite's month-to-month rate in writing before you sign.
Run the trial on your real inbox
The free move is generous here. Agorapulse's trial lasts 30 days without a card, and its pricing FAQ says that afterwards you keep a free plan rather than being charged. Connect the profiles that carry most of your messages, set one approval workflow, and measure the two numbers from the list above.
Agorapulse places saved replies on Advanced, one tier above the assignment tools, so a care team that wants both buys the $149 seat rather than the $119 one, and that $30 a head is where its ladder earns, per the plan table. Decide whether your team types the same five answers every day before you accept that step.
Choose Agorapulse if
- Your job is a shared inbox where colleagues assign, approve and answer, and the budget is per head.
- You manage up to 10 profiles, or a few more at the add-on price per profile.
- You want an AI assistant replying under a human approval gate on a self-serve plan.
Choose Hootsuite if
- Your job joins care with listening, forecasts and competitor benchmarks for a brand with many profiles.
- You need skill-based routing, CSAT surveys or employee advocacy from one contract.
- Personal data in messages must be masked on every plan.
FAQ
Can Agorapulse's AI connector post on its own?
No. Its MCP guide says the connector creates draft posts and does not publish them, and that replies sent through it wait for approval when an inbox approval workflow is active.
Does Hootsuite suggest replies with AI?
Its plans page lists AI-powered smart replies from Professional. The smart replies article is written for Enterprise inbox agents and says they do not cover Facebook or Instagram private messages or WhatsApp, so confirm the scope for your plan in the trial.
How many social profiles does each plan include?
Agorapulse includes 10 on Standard, Professional and Advanced, and unlimited on Custom. Hootsuite includes 10 on Standard and unlimited from Professional, per the two pricing pages.
