Albato vs Zapier: Cheaper per Step or More Apps to Connect

The short answer: if a small team runs everyday flows between a CRM, forms, ads and messengers on a tight budget, Albato's Pro plan costs $22 a month on monthly billing for 1,000 transactions, and triggers cost nothing. If one of your tools only connects through a very large directory, Zapier lists 9,000+ apps and starts at $29.99 a month billed monthly for Professional. Both prices were checked on 26 October 2026 on the Albato and Zapier pricing pages.
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
What Albato changes is the price of each step and of the AI placed on top. A transaction is a successfully executed step after the trigger, and an AI Agent step costs 3 transactions a run however many tools it calls, with no token charge when you bring an outside model (Albato pricing, AI Agent guide). The job it wins is the lead-handling flow for a small team: one agent step that reads a new contact and decides what happens next, at a fixed and low cost. Zapier wins on reach and on the people around it: a bigger shelf of apps, a 25-user Team plan and a built-in approval step.
Price your own month:
- Do the sum on your busiest flow. For example, a form-to-CRM flow with three action steps and 300 leads a month uses 3 x 300 = 900 transactions on Albato, inside Pro's 1,000, and 900 tasks on Zapier, because neither counts the trigger (Albato pricing, Zapier task usage).
- Bring the app list you already have. Albato connects 1,000+ apps and reaches others through custom webhooks and API calls on paid plans (Albato, Albato pricing). Any app missing from its list and present in Zapier's settles the question early.
- Plan what you will check after week one. Albato keeps execution logs for 7 days on Free and 30 on Pro (Albato pricing). Zapier counts only successful actions, so a step that errors or halts uses nothing, and a quiet task count can mean a broken Zap (Zapier task usage).
On the record
| What the pages say | Albato | Zapier |
|---|---|---|
| Billed unit | Transaction per successful step after the trigger (pricing) | Task per successful action (task usage) |
| Free of charge | Triggers | Triggers, Filter, Paths, Formatter, Delay, Looping, Tables, Forms |
| Free plan | 100 transactions, 5 active automations, 2 steps each | 100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps (pricing) |
| How often triggers check | Every 15 minutes on Free, 5 on Pro, 3 on Teams, 1 on Custom | Not stated on the pricing page |
| Apps | 1,000+ (Albato) | 9,000+ (pricing FAQ) |
| AI agent step | 3 transactions a run, plus 1 per 2,000 tokens on Albato AI (AI Agent guide) | 1, 3 or 5 tasks a run by model tier, plus that rate per tool call (model tiers) |
| A person approves mid-flow | No approval step on the plan comparison | Human in the Loop on every plan (help) |
| Seats | 1 on Free and Pro, 5 on Teams | 1 on Free and Professional, 25 on Team |
Three differences that decide it
What an AI step costs
For example, an agent run that calls four tools on an outside model costs 3 Albato transactions, since the tool count does not change the price (AI Agent guide). On Zapier an AI by Zapier step on the Advanced tier with four tool calls uses (1 x 3) + (4 x 3) = 15 tasks, or (1 x 1) + (4 x 1) = 5 tasks on your own model key (model tiers). For agent-heavy flows, Albato's flat charge per run is the easier one to predict.
How many people can build
Albato's Teams plan adds invitations, roles, projects and 5 seats, from $93 a month on monthly billing at 5,000 transactions (Albato pricing). Zapier's Team plan holds 25 users with shared Zaps, shared app connections and SAML SSO, from $103.50 a month billed monthly (Zapier pricing). Six builders already outgrow Albato's team seats.
How wide the shelf is
Zapier's directory is roughly nine times the size of Albato's on the two vendors' own counts, and it lets you build private integrations for internal tools (pricing FAQ). Albato counters with an apps integrator for custom apps and custom webhook and API steps from Pro upward (Albato pricing). If your stack is mainstream, the shelf size rarely matters; if it includes a niche ad platform or a regional CRM, it decides everything.
One agent step, and who acts on it
The job: sort new HubSpot contacts for sales without writing branch rules. Albato's own guide builds it: a new contact triggers the automation, and an AI Agent step reads the record. If the "Want to Book a Demo?" field says yes, it sends a Slack notification; if the job title contains Head, Director, Founder or CEO, it adds the contact to a Google Sheet of priority leads; otherwise it uses no tool (AI Agent guide). Guardrails of up to 1,000 characters tell it what never to do. The human check is in the design: the agent only flags and lists, and a salesperson decides whom to contact. On Zapier the same flow would end with a Human in the Loop approval before any CRM write.
Prices, checked on 26 October 2026
From the Albato pricing page, where annual billing saves up to 30%, and the Zapier pricing page, where it saves 33%:
| Albato | Zapier | |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0: 100 transactions | $0: 100 tasks |
| Entry plan, billed monthly | Pro, $22 for 1,000 transactions | Professional, from $29.99 |
| Entry plan, billed yearly, per month | $15 | From $19.99 |
| Team plan, billed monthly | Teams, $93 from 5,000 transactions | Team, from $103.50 |
| Team plan, billed yearly, per month | $65 | From $69 |
| Above that | Custom, quoted | Enterprise, quoted |
Both vendors keep your flows running past the plan limit at a dearer unit price, and both make that the default. Albato bills additional transactions automatically at 50% above the package rate, listed at $0.0330 each on Pro, and Zapier moves you to pay-per-task billing at a higher rate unless you turn it off (Albato pricing, Zapier pricing FAQ). For example, Pro's $22 for 1,000 transactions is $22 / 1,000 = $0.022 each, so every overflow step costs $0.011 more. An uninterrupted flow suits you; the overflow rate suits the vendor. Set the alert, or the stop, in the week you go live.
Free routes first
Albato's Free plan has no time limit and needs no card (Albato); five two-step automations are enough to test a trigger and an action on real data. A new Zapier account gets a 14-day Professional trial with no card, and the Free plan carries 100 tasks a month (Zapier pricing FAQ). Build the same lead flow on both, run a fortnight of real leads, and compare transactions with tasks before paying either.
Choose Albato if your job is
- Everyday flows for a small team at a low price per step, with triggers free.
- An AI agent step whose cost stays at 3 transactions however many tools it uses.
- A free plan you can keep while you test, with no expiry date.
Choose Zapier if your job is
- Connecting an app that only Zapier's larger directory carries.
- A team of up to 25 builders sharing Zaps and app connections.
- A person approving AI drafts mid-flow, with Human in the Loop.
FAQ
Do triggers cost anything on either tool?
No. Albato counts only steps after the trigger, and Zapier lists all trigger steps among what does not count (Albato pricing, Zapier task usage).
Is Albato's own Zapier comparison about this builder?
No. Albato's "Albato vs. Zapier" page compares the embedded integration products sold to software companies, not the self-serve builder a marketing team buys (Albato vs. Zapier).
Does Zapier's Human in the Loop need a paid plan?
No. Zapier's help article lists it on the Free, Professional, Team and Enterprise plans (Human in the Loop).
