The short answer: if the face on screen has to stop a thumb in a paid feed, many times a week, pick Arcads: one talking-actor video of up to 2 minutes uses 800 of the 8,000 credits in its entry plan (Arcads pricing article). If the face has to explain, onboard or speak to several markets, pick HeyGen: Creator costs $29 a month on monthly billing for 600 credits, and an Avatar IV presenter from a video look uses 31 credits a minute, so the plan covers 19 minutes of presenter video (HeyGen pricing, credits article, both checked on 26 October 2026).

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Both put an AI person on camera. The difference is the job that person is hired for: Arcads casts actors for ads, HeyGen builds presenters, including copies of real colleagues, for everything from a sales intro to a translated webinar.

Three questions first:

  1. What will one month cost in output? For example, twelve 30-second hook variants on Arcads 1.0 use 12 x 800 = 9,600 credits, more than Starter's 8,000, so that plan holds ten; the same twelve as HeyGen Avatar IV video, billed per minute of output, are 12 x 0.5 = 6 minutes, or 6 x 31 = 186 of Creator's 600 credits (Arcads pricing article, HeyGen credits article).
  2. Who already appears in your videos? A founder or salesperson people recognise points to HeyGen, which can turn that person into an avatar with their explicit consent. A brand with no on-camera person points to a library of actors.
  3. Which number will settle it? For an ad, hook rate and cost per purchase. For an explainer, completion rate, which HeyGen's share page reports beside average watch time (sharing article).

The format decides more than the feature list

Arcads documents testimonial-style ads in which a realistic actor talks about your product in their own words, often holding it (testimonial guide). That format is where EU consumer law draws a hard line. Annex I of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive lists, among practices banned in all circumstances, falsely representing oneself as a consumer (point 22) and commissioning false consumer reviews or endorsements to promote products (point 23c) (consolidated directive, read on 26 October 2026). An actor who says "I bought this and it changed my mornings" is a brand voice dressed as a customer. Arcads says the same in plainer words: its actors are not real customers and must not be presented as verified buyers.

HeyGen's presenter usually speaks as the company: a product lead walking through a feature, a translated message from the founder. That changes the question from "is this a fake review" to "has this person agreed, and is the video labelled". HeyGen's moderation policy requires explicit consent from anyone a custom avatar represents (moderation policy). For the labels both formats need under the AI Act, see the ad-creative use case and the avatar consent use case. This page reads the law as published; it is not legal advice.

If an ad needs a customer's voice, use a real customer's words with their permission; neither tool supplies that. If it needs a brand presenter in creator framing, with claims you can prove and a label, Arcads does it faster than tools built for training videos.

What you pay

HeyGen publishes its prices: Free at $0 with 3 watermarked videos a month of up to a minute each, Creator at $29 a month or $24 a month billed yearly for 600 credits, Pro from $49 for 1,000 credits up to $4,300 for 100,000, and Business at $149 a month plus $20 per extra seat, per the HeyGen pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026.

Arcads publishes credit allowances only, from 8,000 credits a month on Starter to 192,000 on Business, with yearly billing 20% below monthly; the money prices appear inside the app (Arcads pricing article). Open the trial before you put Arcads in a budget line.

Letting an agent fill a presenter template

HeyGen runs a remote MCP server at https://mcp.heygen.com/mcp/v1/. Add it as a custom connector in Claude or another MCP client and sign in with OAuth; no API key is needed and usage draws on your plan's credits (HeyGen MCP). Its template tools do the repetitive part: create_template copies a finished video into a private template, set_template_variables marks the lines that change, and generate_from_template fills them, one market at a time.

So: approve one master video with your presenter, then ask the agent to draft the variable lines for Germany, France and the Netherlands from your price list and product page. The person who owns each market reads its lines before anything generates, checks prices and claims against the source, and only then lets the agent call generate_from_template. The agent drafts and fills; people approve.

Try both without a contract

HeyGen's Free plan needs no card and gives 3 watermarked videos a month, up to a minute each, with one custom video avatar (pricing). Arcads' trial gives 72 hours and 1,000 credits, needs a card, and becomes a Starter subscription unless you cancel (pricing article). Make the HeyGen test first; if a presenter already does the job, there is no actor to cast.

One cost on the Arcads side is easy to miss. Its agent, Mark, takes briefs in plain words, and each chat turn with Mark is charged by token usage on top of the credits for the renders it triggers (Mark). The convenience of describing an ad instead of building it carries its own meter, so draft the brief in a document and paste it once.

Pick by the face you need

  • Choose Arcads if your job is a weekly supply of short, creator-style ad variants: new hooks, new faces, new languages for the same script.
  • Choose HeyGen if your job is a presenter people can trust across many videos and markets: explainers, sales intros, onboarding, translated founder messages.

Plan detail sits in the Arcads entry and the HeyGen entry; HeyGen's translation steps are in how to use HeyGen.

FAQ

Are the Arcads actors real people?

They are AI actors based on real actors who gave consent and are paid for the use of their likeness; custom actors you create stay private to your workspace (Arcads FAQ).

Can I make an avatar of a colleague in HeyGen?

Yes, with that person's explicit consent; HeyGen's policy forbids creating avatars of other individuals without it, and leaves the consent for each use with you (moderation policy).

Which handles more languages?

Close to a tie on paper. Arcads actors speak 74 languages with accents and Translate Video offers 176 language and accent options (Arcads FAQ); HeyGen lists 175+ languages and dialects on paid plans and 30+ on Free (pricing).
