The short answer: look at who pays you. A person at an online checkout, or a company at the end of a pipeline. A DTC brand that sells to people at an online checkout should pick Causality Engine. One causal read of the GA4 export costs €99 and any store platform works (pricing, checked on 27 October 2026), with the first finding free on the start page. A B2B company that sells to accounts through a CRM pipeline, often with LinkedIn ads, should look at Dreamdata. It offers a free plan with 2 months of user history and 5 seats, and puts its attribution on a custom-priced plan (Dreamdata pricing, checked the same day).
Disclosure: I founded Causality Engine and own it, and this page recommends it. Every claim about it links to Causality Engine's own pages.
If both are on your shortlist, that is a fair place to have landed: both sell attribution, and both now ship AI on top. The unit underneath is what separates them. Dreamdata counts companies and deals. Causality Engine counts orders and the channels that caused them.
Which buyer are you:
- Your customer is a person with a basket. Orders land in GA4 from a Shopify, WooCommerce or custom store, and the question is which of Meta, Google, TikTok and email caused them. That is the job Causality Engine's home page describes: ecommerce owners and in-house marketing leads who split budget across channels.
- Your customer is a company with a buying committee. Several people from one account visit, fill a form, take a call and sign weeks later. Dreamdata's home page organises every activity by account and ties it to revenue.
- Check the window against your cycle. For example, a deal that takes 90 days from first visit to signature runs longer than the free plan's 2 months of user history. So the free tier shows the end of the journey and not its start, per Dreamdata's pricing page. Causality Engine reads 12 months or more of GA4 history, per its how-it-works page.
- Choose the number that settles it. Closed-won revenue from the CRM for B2B, net orders after refunds for a store. Judge either tool against that.
Compared on what each one documents
| Attribute | Causality Engine | Dreamdata | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unit of analysis | Each channel's caused share of purchase revenue | Accounts: contacts, companies and deals, with activities tied to revenue | How it works, Dreamdata home |
| What you install | Nothing; you upload a GA4 export | A tracking script on every page, form tracking, and CRM and tool connections | How it works, Dreamdata setup docs |
| First data | A read in 1 to 2 minutes from upload | Website traffic in the Debugger about 24 hours after the script goes live | How it works, Dreamdata setup docs |
| Free tier | A preview of the channels behind your Direct traffic | Free plan: web analytics, company identification, audience builder; 2 months of history, 5 seats | Start, Dreamdata pricing |
| Paid attribution | €99 per read; Pro €299 a month | Attribution and Activation plan, custom pricing, guided trial | Pricing, Dreamdata pricing |
| AI | Chatbot over your attribution data, on Pro | Analytics Agent, MCP server for Claude, Copilot or ChatGPT, warehouse export | Pricing, Dreamdata home |
| Acting on it | A next step per channel, tested in one region | Audiences and offline conversions synced to the ad platforms | How it works, Dreamdata home |
Accounts against orders
Dreamdata's strength is the B2B journey: anonymous visits resolved to companies, form fills matched to CRM contacts, and every touch rolled up to the deal. Its pricing page says its IP-to-company resolution identifies up to 80% of companies. Its integrations page leads with HubSpot, Salesforce and LinkedIn Ads. That is a marketing team at a software or services company, proving pipeline to sales.
Causality Engine is built for the other shop floor. The input is the Attribution paths export GA4 already keeps, and the read splits Direct back to the channels that sent those buyers. On its start page, a store's donated read, published with consent, gives 61.67% of Direct's credit back to Paid Shopping, Organic Search and Cross-network. That is one store's result, shown so you can see the format, not a prediction for yours.
Dreamdata's integrations page does list Shopify and Stripe, so a B2B company with a webshop can bring orders in. That is a real bridge. Its model still counts accounts first.
What the setup asks of you
Dreamdata's setup guide has three stages. First, connect the sources, starting with a JavaScript tracking script on every page of the site, through Google Tag Manager or the page head. Then configure stage models, UTM mappings and attribution models. Then validate the data. Forms identify visitors, and an admin has to authenticate each source, the CRM above all.
Causality Engine's how-it-works page has three steps too, and none touches the site. Export the GA4 file, let the model run, then read each channel next to last-click with a data-health score from 0 to 100. A channel under 1% of credit on both methods is called too small to act on.
Two free tiers, read closely
Dreamdata's free plan gives web analytics, company identification and an audience builder. The attribution models sit on the custom-priced plan behind a demo, per its pricing page. The free tier's work is getting the script onto every page and your data flowing into Dreamdata. That is what makes the paid plan the easy next step.
The same is true of Causality Engine's own free tier, and it should be said. The start page gives one finding free and then offers the full read for €99. The difference is the cost of walking away. One free preview leaves nothing installed. The other leaves a script on every page.
If you sell to both
A brand with a wholesale desk and a webshop has two jobs. The wholesale pipeline, with buyers who request a price list and order by account, fits Dreamdata's model. The webshop, where people pay at checkout, fits a causal read of GA4. Neither tool replaces the other here. Causality Engine's home page describes itself as a layer next to whatever already runs.
Choose Causality Engine if your job is
- Deciding which ad channels earn their budget on a DTC store whose sales land in GA4.
- Splitting Direct traffic back to the channels that sent those buyers, before the next budget move.
- Getting that answer without installing a script or booking a demo.
Choose Dreamdata if your job is
- Reporting marketing's contribution to B2B pipeline and closed deals by account.
- Building LinkedIn and other ad audiences from in-market accounts, and syncing offline conversions back.
- Letting an AI agent answer questions on an account-based data model, through its Analytics Agent or MCP server.
The glossary has the short version: what Causality Engine is.
Start with the free preview
For a store, the free step is enough to know whether the paid read is worth it. Drop the GA4 export on the start page, and the preview of what your Direct traffic is hiding is worked out in your browser. The file is not uploaded, as the privacy policy describes. For a B2B team, Dreamdata's free plan is the matching first step on its side.
For the paid read, Causality Engine, which I founded, takes the same export at app.causalityengine.ai/start. It returns each channel's caused share, its last-click share, a data-health score and a next step, for €99 and refundable within 30 days. The pricing page sets out Pro at €299 a month for budgets that move weekly. Causality Engine's case-studies page includes one brand, OFFFTRACK, where the read found the gap inside the confidence interval at its spend, and advised against the continuous tier.
FAQ
Does Dreamdata work for an online store?
It can take Shopify and Stripe data, per its integrations page. But the platform describes itself as B2B attribution organised around accounts. A consumer brand selling single orders to people gets less from an account model.
Is Dreamdata free?
Its Free plan costs $0 a month, with 2 months of user history, 5 seats and self-serve onboarding. Attribution sits on the custom-priced Attribution and Activation plan, per its pricing page, checked on 27 October 2026.
Does Causality Engine need a CRM?
No. It needs one GA4 export, from Shopify or any other store platform, per its how-it-works page. Nothing is connected to a CRM.
