How to Use Visme to Turn a Google Sheet Into a Live Report

The short answer: if your monthly marketing report is one Google Sheet that the same group of people reads every month, Visme's Business plan at $24.75 a month billed yearly ($297) is the tier for it, because the brand kit, view analytics and PowerPoint download all start there and Starter, at $12.25, has none of them (pricing page, checked on 26 October 2026). The steps: pull your brand from your website, let the AI Designer lay out last month's report without rewording it, connect each chart to the sheet, publish once to a link that never changes, then re-sync the data and read the visits each month.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

The job is narrow on purpose. A report that lives as a slide deck gets rebuilt every month, attached to an email and read by nobody you can count. In Visme the same report becomes one published page: the charts read from the sheet, the URL stays put, and the Data tab counts the visits. What the product includes and costs is in the Visme glossary entry.

Three checks before step 1:

  1. The AI budget is not the constraint. The AI Designer spends 2 credits a generation and Business includes 500 a month, per the pricing page. For example, six drafts and regenerations for one report use 6 x 2 = 12 credits.
  2. The sheet you already keep. Decide which tab feeds which chart before you open Visme, and keep the column headings stable from month to month, since every chart will read from the same place each time you re-sync.
  3. Your baseline. Write down how the report reaches people today and how many replies or questions it gets. After the switch, Visme counts views and unique visits per published project, per the analytics guide.

What you need

  • A Business plan, which carries the brand kit and analytics on the pricing page. The free plan cannot use an uploaded file as the AI Designer's source.
  • An administrator, Designer or Marketing Manager role, the only roles that can edit the brand kit.
  • Last month's report as a document, and the Google Sheet with this month's numbers.

Step 1: Pull the brand from your website

From the dashboard, open Brand Kit in the left sidebar and click Brand Wizard. Type your website URL and click Extract logo and fonts. Pick the logo, add the fonts, choose a colour theme or add colours by hand, then click Complete setup, as the Brand Wizard guide describes. Running it again later adds options and leaves the existing kit alone, so a rebrand does not wipe last year's reports.

Step 2: Let the AI Designer draft the layout, not the numbers

From the dashboard, click Create and pick a document, or choose Generate with AI. The AI Designer opens a chat and asks about topic, audience, tone and structure. Upload last month's report as the source and choose Verbatim, which keeps your wording nearly unchanged; Enhance and Rewrite rework the text. Apply your brand kit in the chat, pick a visual style, preview, regenerate if the layout is wrong, then click Edit Design. A project holds up to 10 generated pages, per the AI Designer guide.

The guide calls the result a structured first draft, and that sets the human check: the agent lays out the pages, and you read every figure against the sheet before anything else happens. A layout can be regenerated. A wrong number that reaches the board cannot.

Step 3: Connect each chart to the sheet

Select a chart, open the Import Data tab and choose Google Sheets. There are two routes in the import guide. Connect Sheet by URL needs the sheet set to "Anyone with the link can view". Connect to Google Sheets signs you in and lists your spreadsheets. For revenue or pipeline figures, take the sign-in route, so the raw numbers are not one forwarded link away from anyone.

Repeat for each chart. Excel files and Excel Online work the same way if part of the data lives there.

Step 4: Publish once and share the same link every month

Click Share in the top-right corner of the editor. On Share Online, set the name and summary and publish; no link exists until you do. Then choose who can open it: anyone with the link, your team only, or specific people you invite from the Share Privately tab with view, comment or edit rights. The publishing guide adds the detail that makes this job work: the shareable link stays the same every time you republish, so readers bookmark it once.

Step 5: Refresh the data each month

Update the sheet as usual. In Visme, open each connected chart's settings and click Re-sync Data at the bottom, then republish. Visme's FAQ notes that a viewer with the live page already open has to refresh it to see the change, so tell the regular readers the report is up rather than assuming they will notice.

Step 6: Read the visits

Open the Data tab on the dashboard, or the Analytics button under the project title. The analytics guide lists views, unique visits, average time and average completion, and for each visit the date and time, visitor IP, location, time spent and source. Filter by date range and export a CSV if you track readership over the year. Workspace members see only the projects they published; administrators see everyone's.

What Visme's help pages warn about

  • A sheet open to anyone with the link. The URL route requires it, so check what else sits in that spreadsheet.
  • Views are not people. The analytics guide says so directly; use unique visits for the count of readers.
  • Names need a form. Some analytics fields, such as organisation, work only when a form is turned on for the project.
  • A free account and an uploaded source. The AI Designer accepts files only on a paid plan.

Keep the record outside the link

Download each month's report as a PDF on the day you publish it; PDF download is on every plan, and the sheet plus a folder of PDFs is a record that needs no subscription at all. That matters because Visme's FAQ says published links and embeds of a cancelled workspace may stop working, which turns the link your board has bookmarked into the reason the Business plan renews each year.

The other check is free too: once a quarter, pick three figures in the published report and trace each one back to the sheet and then to the system it came from. Later, if those figures come from ad platforms that each claim the same sale, a causal attribution tool like Causality Engine runs that check continuously. Disclosure: I founded it.

FAQ

Do the charts update on their own?

Visme's FAQ says Google Sheets connections let charts update when the source changes and that open pages need a refresh. The import guide gives the manual control, Re-sync Data in the chart's settings, so re-sync before each republish and you never depend on timing.

Can people read the report without a Visme account?

Yes, if you set the link to anyone with the link. If you choose specific people, recipients have to be on the invite list, and team-only links need workspace members, per the publishing guide.

Can I see which person read it?

Not from the view data alone: per visit, Business shows IP, location, time spent and source. A registration form (Share, Advanced Settings, Requires Registration) collects names and emails into Form Results, and seeing each viewer's time per slide is Deeper Analytics, which the deeper analytics guide says requires an Enterprise team plan.
