The short answer: if one or two people make social video and want an editor on desktop, browser and phone with plenty of AI included, CapCut is the cheaper door: Pro is listed at USD 19.99 monthly, bundling 1,200 AI credits and 1 TB of storage, with a note that the prices shown are a reference and the final one appears after sign-in (CapCut pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). A team that edits the same footage together, or wants an agent to cut on a timeline that hands off to Premiere Pro, is better served by invideo, from $20 per seat monthly (invideo pricing).

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Decide on these:

  1. The seat sum. For example, two editors on CapCut Teams at USD 12.49 a seat pay 2 x 12.49 = 24.98 a month, while two on invideo Starter pay 2 x $20 = $40 on monthly billing (CapCut pricing, invideo pricing). CapCut's Teams card adds that signing in can save up to 80% on Teams.
  2. Where your team edits now. A social lead who cuts on a phone between meetings has CapCut on every device. An editor who already has a Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve project can open it in invideo and keep going (editor introduction).
  3. Revisions per video. Count the rounds of changes on the last five videos. A tool that puts reviewer and editor on one timeline earns its price by cutting that number, not by its feature list.

CapCut is a full editor sold as apps, with templates, captions, effects and generative models around it. invideo has turned into an agentic editor in the browser, where you describe the edit and agents carry it out on a timeline that stays yours. Both overlap on AI generation; they part ways on how a team works.

The real differences

Devices against a shared timeline

CapCut runs as CapCut Desktop, CapCut Online, CapCut Pad and CapCut Mobile (CapCut), so the same person can start on a laptop and finish on a train. invideo lives in the browser and is built for several people at once, with live cursors on one project (invideo). For a solo creator, devices matter more. For a team of four reviewing one launch video, the shared timeline does.

How the agent reaches the edit

invideo's agents work inside the editor, and outside assistants reach the same timeline through its MCP server at https://mcp.invideo.io/mcp (MCP page). CapCut's route is CapCut x Codex: an official plugin for the ChatGPT desktop app on PC that generates drafts, edits the timeline from chat and opens the CapCut editor for hands-on work, with availability varying by app version, account and region (CapCut x Codex).

How firm the price is

invideo lists per-seat prices but keeps the option to reprice credits without warning (pricing FAQ). CapCut states that displayed pricing is for reference only and that the final price, taxes and offers appear after you sign in (CapCut pricing). Budget either one from the checkout screen, not the marketing page.

Plans, vendor by vendor

  • invideo, per seat, monthly billing: Starter $20 with 400 credits, Plus $60 with 2,000, Max $150 with 5,000; billed annually under a 50% offer, $10, $30 and $75 a month (invideo pricing).
  • CapCut, as displayed: Free at USD 0; Pro, USD 19.99 a month with 1,200 credits; Ultra, USD 79 a month with 8,645; Teams, USD 12.49 a month per seat (CapCut pricing).

All read on 26 October 2026. Above its plans, the CapCut pricing page advertised up to 40% off monthly billing and up to 30% off yearly, without saying which accounts qualify.

The agent step: a draft refined in chat

On the CapCut x Codex page, copy the prompt that asks Codex to download CapCut's skill file and follow it to install and authorise the plugin (CapCut x Codex). Then describe the video, or upload an existing draft and the clips behind it, and refine in chat: shorten a scene, reorder clips, move caption timing, swap the music. The human check: before export, the person who owns the account opens the draft in the CapCut editor, goes through each track, and confirms that every clip, track and claim in it is one the brand has the right to publish. CapCut's own page calls generation a starting point for editing, not a finished video.

Where the headline numbers come from

CapCut's plan cards lead with first-month rates, Seedance 2.5 from $0.12 a second on Pro, and call the whole table a reference until sign-in (CapCut pricing). The number that recurs on your card from month two is the one to put in the budget.

Start free

CapCut's Free plan covers basic editing and free templates, and a new account gets 200 credits to try generation (CapCut pricing). invideo's free tier asks for no card and refills a small credit balance every week (free plan article). Give the same 30-second clip to the person who edits most, once in each, and count the minutes and the revision rounds.

Choose invideo if

  • Your job is team editing of real footage: interviews, demos, events.
  • You want agents to cut while editors watch and take over on the same timeline.
  • Projects move to or from Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or Resolve.

Choose CapCut if

  • Your job is fast social video by one or two people, often on a phone.
  • Templates, effects and captions matter more than a shared timeline.
  • You want generous AI credits and storage for the lowest monthly price.

invideo's plans are covered in the invideo entry; for CapCut, the CapCut site is the place to check.

FAQ

Does CapCut claim ownership of what I upload?

No, according to CapCut's own explainer of its terms: it needs a licence to store, format and display content, and templates you share can be adapted by others (CapCut terms explainer). Read the terms before uploading unreleased product footage.

Can an invideo edit go to a professional editor?

Yes. Export the video, or the whole project with its cuts intact for Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve (editor introduction).

Does manual editing use invideo credits?

No. Hand work, moving clips and adjusting picture and sound, costs nothing; agent work and model generation use credits (credits article).
