ManyChat vs Stan Store: DM Automation or a Creator Shop

The short answer: if you sell a course, a template pack or coaching calls from Instagram, you need somewhere to sell them, and Stan Store is that shop: its Creator plan at $29 a month hosts courses, digital products and bookings in your link-in-bio and includes Stan AutoDM for keyword replies (Creator vs Creator Pro, checked on 26 October 2026). ManyChat is not a shop. It automates the conversation before the sale, and it cannot sell your digital product inside an Instagram DM, because its Buy Button guide passes on Meta's rule that DMs and Messenger cannot be used to sell digital goods (Buy Button guide). So the real question is whether you need ManyChat on top of Stan.
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
What decides it:
- Price the pair, then ask what the second tool buys. For example, Stan Creator at $29 plus ManyChat Essential at $17 is $46 a month (Stan plans, Essential plan). The $17 is worth paying only if your DMs need questions, tags or email capture that a single keyword reply cannot give.
- Read the DMs you already get. Last month's inbox splits into "where do I buy it" and "which one is right for me". The first is a link job, which Stan AutoDM does. The second is a conversation, which is ManyChat's job.
- Decide what a sale looks like in your numbers. Stan's AutoDM reports sent, opened, clicks and opt-ins, its word for purchases from the DM (AutoDM guide). Take that baseline before adding anything.

The three differences that matter
Selling versus talking
Stan is a storefront with checkout: products, courses, bookings, lead magnets and a community area, with a homepage promise of "0% Transaction Fees, Always" (Stan homepage). ManyChat's own selling tool is narrow. The Buy Button works in Messenger and Instagram DMs through Stripe or PayPal, for items priced between $0.50 and $100, and its guide is explicit that digital goods are off limits there (Buy Button guide). For a creator selling knowledge, ManyChat's DM ends with a link to a checkout somewhere else, often a Stan page.
One reply or a conversation
Stan AutoDM picks keywords, chooses posts, sends your message and optionally comments back. Its FAQ answers the request for quizzes and multi-step flows with "Not yet" (AutoDM guide). ManyChat starts where that ends: questions, branches, tags, follower checks, email and phone capture on Essential, and on Pro, AI-powered automation and moving a lead from Instagram or TikTok into WhatsApp (Pro plan).
The public comment reply
Stan's help centre is frank about its Comment back option: automated replies under posts can look like bot activity to Instagram, and it recommends keeping them off, or switching them off when a post goes viral (comment replies article). ManyChat's Auto-DM links automation can post a public reply as well (Auto-DM links guide), so the same judgment applies: vary the wording and watch a post that takes off.
What each costs, checked on 26 October 2026
| Monthly billing | Yearly billing | What it adds | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stan Creator | $29 | $300 a year | Store, courses, bookings, AutoDM |
| Stan Creator Pro | $99 | $948 a year | Email broadcasts and flows, funnels, order bumps, payment plans, pixels |
| ManyChat Essential | $17 | $14 a month, paid yearly | 250 Active Contacts, unlimited automations, email capture |
| ManyChat Pro | $39 | $29 a month, paid yearly | 2,500 Active Contacts, WhatsApp, SMS, email, AI |
Stan's prices are from its plans article; it offers no free plan. ManyChat's are from its Essential and Pro articles; past the included count, ManyChat bills $0.10 or $0.05 per extra person on monthly plans.
Let ManyChat's AI draft the flow, then read it
ManyChat's AI Flow Builder assistant builds an automation from a short chat (AI Flow Builder assistant). Open Automations, New Automation, and type into Create with AI: describe the business ("I sell a $49 Notion planner and a coaching call"), the goal ("grow my email list"), and the channel, Instagram. It proposes templates such as Grow email list or Collect contact's data, then drafts the flow.
The check is a person reading every message before Set Live: the promise in the opening DM, the email question, the link to the Stan product page, and what happens when someone answers off-script. The assistant writes plausible copy about a product it has never seen, so the price and what the buyer gets are the two lines to verify against your store.
Start without paying
ManyChat's free plan covers 25 Active Contacts with four live automations, enough to test one keyword on one post (Free plan). Stan has no free plan and a 14-day trial (Stan homepage), during which you can sell as soon as Stripe or PayPal is connected (trial article).
That trial has one limit worth reading before you judge Stan's email tools. On a Creator Pro trial Stan lets you import 10 contacts, and the rest of your list, up to 5,000 in all, only once the paid plan starts (trial article), so the email features are tried on a list too small to show anything, and the real test begins after the first payment.
Choose ManyChat if your job is
- Qualifying people in the DMs before you send them anywhere.
- Running the same funnel on TikTok, Messenger or WhatsApp as well as Instagram.
- Capturing emails and phone numbers from comments into a sheet or CRM.
Choose Stan Store if your job is
- Selling courses, digital downloads or bookings from your link-in-bio.
- Sending the product link when someone comments a keyword, and nothing more.
- Running store, email and affiliate tools under one subscription.
FAQ
Can I use ManyChat and Stan Store together?
Yes, as long as one tool owns each post. ManyChat's Auto-DM links automation sends whatever link you choose, including a Stan product page (Auto-DM links guide); switch Stan AutoDM off for the same posts so one comment gets one DM.
Does Stan Store have a free plan?
No. Its help centre says there is no free plan at the moment, and that affiliate-only accounts are not stores (plans article). New accounts get a 14-day trial.
Can I sell physical products with either?
Stan says it is built for digital products and that physical items need a Custom Product with shipping handled by hand, since it calculates neither shipping nor inventory (physical products article). ManyChat's Buy Button sells items priced from $0.50 to $100 in Messenger and Instagram DMs, digital goods excepted (Buy Button guide).
