The short answer: if you sell digital products from a social profile and take less than $580 a month, Payhip's $0 plan costs less than Stan Store's $29 Creator plan, because 5% of $580 is $29; above that, Stan's flat fee is the smaller platform charge, since Stan takes 0% of sales (checked on 26 October 2026 on the Payhip pricing page and Stan's plan comparison; Stripe or PayPal fees apply on both). The fee is not the whole story: on Stan, discount codes, email marketing, order bumps and funnels belong to Creator Pro at $99 a month, while every Payhip plan has every feature and Payhip remits VAT and sales tax for you. Choose Stan Store if your job is selling calls, courses and downloads from a link-in-bio, with Instagram replies automated. Choose Payhip if your job is a store on your own domain or website, selling to buyers in many countries with the tax handled.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Stan is built around the phone: a link-in-bio storefront, one-tap checkout, bookings, courses and Instagram auto-DMs, per its homepage. Payhip is built around the store: downloads, courses, memberships, coaching and physical goods, on your own domain or embedded in a site you already have, per its homepage. Most creators need one of those, not both.

Three questions settle most of it:

  1. What does a month of your sales cost on each? For example, at $1,500 a month Payhip's fee is 0.05 x $1,500 = $75 on the $0 plan and $29 + 0.02 x $1,500 = $59 on Plus, against Stan's flat $29 on Creator, or $25 a month if you pay $300 for the year (Payhip, Stan). At $99 a month, Payhip Pro and Stan Creator Pro both take 0%.
  2. Which tools do you already pay for? If you rely on email campaigns and discount codes today, Stan's Creator plan leaves both out: email broadcasts and flows, discount codes, order bumps, funnels, affiliate management and pixel tracking come with Creator Pro (Creator Pro features). Payhip's plans differ only in fee, with the full feature set on each (pricing page).
  3. Where buyers land, and the number you will watch. A Stan store lives at stan.store/yourusername, with no custom domain and no built-in embed; you can forward a domain to it (domain article). Whichever you pick, track completed checkouts per 100 store visits for the first 30 days; Payhip's conversion rate report shows exactly that funnel.

Read on 26 October 2026 on Payhip's pricing page and homepage and in Stan's help centre on plans, tax, embedding and physical products. Processor fees come on top everywhere.

What the table does not show

Tax when buyers are abroad

Payhip files the tax on digital sales for you: VAT for buyers in the EU and UK, sales tax for buyers in the US and Canada (pricing page). Stan calculates tax at checkout through Stripe Tax, only for customers in the regions where you are registered, and its tax article suggests a tax professional if you sell into others. For a creator with buyers across Europe, that difference is a filing calendar.

What a sale costs after the processor

Stan's fees article lists Stripe's US charges: 2.9% + $0.30 a sale, 1.5% more for a foreign buyer, and 0.25% + $0.25 per payout. Payhip passes Stripe and PayPal fees through at standard rates (pricing page). Neither absorbs the processor.

How a store grows

On Stan, growth features open at $99: funnels of up to 20 products, payment plans, Afterpay and Klarna, and email flows (Creator Pro features). On Payhip the plan that charges 5% already has coupons, upgrade discounts and affiliates, and the fee falls as sales rise, so the tool set never forces the upgrade; your volume does.

Stan's AI Twin, tested before it is sold

Stan documents an AI product type that Payhip does not have. The AI Twin, in beta, is a chat version of you trained on the social accounts linked to Stan and on what you add in its prompt section, which customers can reach by subscription, one-time payment or for free.

  1. Create the AI Twin as a new product, link your accounts and write its guidelines: who you are, what you advise on, and what it must refuse.
  2. Set its price to $0 and publish it, then opt in from your own store as a customer, which is the test route Stan's article gives.
  3. The human check: ask it the twenty questions your DMs bring most often and compare each answer with the one you would give. Tighten the guidelines where it drifts, ask Stan for a copy of real conversations once fans use it, and only then put a price on it, telling buyers it is a beta.

Payhip documents no AI feature; both automate through Zapier (Payhip, Stan).

Choose Stan Store if your job is

  • Selling from Instagram or TikTok, where the store is the link in your bio.
  • Calls, courses, webinars and downloads, with automated Instagram replies on the $29 plan.
  • A flat monthly fee with nothing taken from each sale.

Choose Payhip if your job is

  • A store on your own domain, or a checkout embedded in your website.
  • Selling to many countries with VAT and sales tax remitted for you.
  • Starting at $0 and letting the fee fall only when sales justify it.

The Payhip entry explains its break-evens, and how to use Payhip builds a free download into paid sales. Stan Store has no entry on this site.

Free first, and the banner on your store

Payhip's $0 plan costs nothing until something sells. Stan has no free plan, but its 14-day trial sells as soon as Stripe or PayPal is connected (trial article). Build the same product on both and send each link to part of your audience.

Then look at the bottom of your Stan store. Each store carries a "Try 14 Days Free" referral banner for Stan, and the help centre lists removing it as a Creator Pro feature (banner article), so on the $29 plan your storefront recruits creators for Stan in front of your own buyers. Payhip's "Powered by Payhip" badge can be switched off in the store builder footer on any plan (badge article).

If the store is one of six paid tools around the business and nobody can say which of them brings the sales, the platform is the smaller question. Sorting which tools stay is a stack job; I sell a one-week version of it, the Startup Fixer, and it is worth doing before you add a seventh.

FAQ

Does Stan take a percentage of sales?

No. Its fees article sets Stan's own transaction fee at 0%, with the $29 or $99 subscription as its charge; Stripe and PayPal fees come on top.

Can I use my own domain with Stan Store?

Not as the store's address. Stan's domain article says the store stays at stan.store/yourusername, and suggests a forwarding rule at your domain provider instead.

Is there a free plan on Stan?

No. Stan's plan comparison says there is no free plan at the moment; affiliate-only accounts exist but do not include store features.
