Later vs Hootsuite: Instagram and Link in Bio or Every Inbox

The short answer: if your social output is Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest and the job is turning posts into visits to your shop, Later Growth at $50 a month on monthly billing covers 2 social sets of 8 profiles, 2 users, 180 posts per profile a month and a link in bio page with your own UTM values (Later pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). Hootsuite starts at $99 per user a month billed annually, and that money buys an inbox on every plan, listening and X, not a better Instagram grid (Hootsuite plans).
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
Later sells a scheduler built around a visual Instagram planner, with influencer marketing beside it. Hootsuite is a per-seat suite whose publishing is one of four products, next to a care inbox, listening and an AI assistant. For a team whose sales start on Instagram, that difference is the decision.
Check your own grid first:
- Count posts per profile, because that is what Later caps. For example, two Instagram posts a day for 30 days is 2 x 30 = 60 posts on that one profile, over Starter's 30 and well inside Growth's 180, per the plan reference. Later counts a post when it is scheduled, and drafts count too.
- List the networks you publish to now. Later supports Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube Shorts and Snapchat (supported platforms). X is not on that list. If X carries part of your plan, the comparison tilts before price comes into it.
- Pick the number the bio link has to move. Tag the bio link with UTM parameters and read sessions and orders from it in your analytics tool for a month before the switch, then for a month after.

What decides it
The bio page is the lead form
Later's Link in Bio is on every plan, the free one included, and collects email addresses into Mailchimp or a CSV; custom UTM values start on Starter and page views by location on Growth (plan reference). Hootsuite has a bio page too, Hootbio, on all four plans (Hootsuite plans). The difference is the depth around it: Later keeps the bio page's interaction data for a year on Starter and Growth and two years on Scale. If the bio link is your main path to a sale, that is where Later is strongest.
Who answers the comments
Later's social inbox starts on Growth and covers direct messages on Instagram and Facebook and comments on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, per the plan reference. Hootsuite's inbox is on every plan, holds public and private conversations together, masks personal data, and adds keyword-triggered DMs on Instagram posts from Professional (DM automation guide). A team where one person posts and two others answer messages all day should weigh the inbox above the planner.
Where AI does a step
Later's AI is Caption Writer and the Ideas tool, paid from a monthly pool of 5, 50 or 100 credits by plan; Ideas turns a short brand description into content pillars and spends one credit for three ideas (Ideas guide). Later's help centre returns no article on an MCP server. Hootsuite's MCP page gives a compound prompt for its Perch server: check next week's recommended posting times, then create drafts for LinkedIn and X at those slots from copy you supply. The assistant does the lookup and the drafting. A person opens the planner, reads each draft and schedules it, and the same page says human review stays part of the approval process.
Cost per profile, worked through
Prices checked on 26 October 2026 on the Later pricing page and the Hootsuite plans page. An illustration for one brand with one person running it:
- Later Growth, monthly billing: $50 for 16 profiles, so $50 / 16 = $3.125 a profile, with a second user included.
- Later Starter, monthly billing: $25 for 8 profiles and 1 user, with 30 posts per profile a month.
- Hootsuite Standard, annual billing: $99 for 1 user and 10 accounts, so $99 / 10 = $9.90 an account; each extra person adds another $99.
On yearly billing Later takes 25% off, so Starter is $18.75, Growth $37.50 and Scale $82.50 a month, and annual plans renew automatically, per its pricing FAQ. Hootsuite shows annual prices only.
Run the free month first
Later's free plan holds one social set, one user and 12 posts per profile a month, with the bio page included (plan reference). That is enough to run your Instagram for a month, tag the bio link and see whether it sends traffic, at no cost. Hootsuite has no free plan; its 14-day trial needs no card.
Because Later counts a post at scheduling and counts drafts as well, a team that plans a month ahead in drafts uses up Starter's 30 slots per profile before anything is published, so the counting rule, more than the publishing volume, is what moves a planning-heavy team to Growth at twice Starter's price. Plan in a shared document and schedule only what is final, and the cap stretches further.
Choose Later if
- Your job is selling from Instagram, TikTok or Pinterest, with the bio link as the way in.
- You want link in bio email capture and its analytics in the same tool as the grid.
- Snapchat or Threads matter to you and X does not.
Choose Hootsuite if
- Your job includes answering a busy inbox, with personal data masked and DMs automated.
- X, listening or social ads management belong in the same contract.
- You want an AI assistant to draft into your calendar through an MCP connector.
FAQ
Can Later publish to X?
No. Its supported platforms guide lists Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube Shorts and Snapchat.
Do drafts count toward Later's monthly post limit?
Yes. The plan reference says drafts count toward your monthly post count, and the pricing FAQ says posts count when they are scheduled, not when they are published.
Does Hootsuite have a link in bio page?
Yes. Hootbio is listed on Standard, Professional, Advanced and Enterprise on the Hootsuite plans page.
