How to Use Later to Turn Instagram Posts Into Site Traffic

The short answer: create a Link in Bio page in Later on desktop, add your profile, a few buttons and your Instagram feed, give each post its own link when you schedule it, set custom UTM source and medium values so the traffic is labelled your way, paste the page URL into your Instagram bio from the phone, and read the result in Google Analytics 4 by session source, with Later's own click counts as a cross-check rather than the record.
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
"Link in bio" is where Instagram traffic goes to get lost. The post mentions a product, the bio links to the homepage, and the follower gives up two taps later. A Link in Bio page fixes the path by letting each post carry its own destination. The other half of the job is counting what comes through, which is where most setups stay vague. What Later costs and includes is in the Later glossary entry.
Before you build the page:
- Expect two numbers, not one. Later counts clicks on its page; Google Analytics counts sessions that reach your site. For example, 400 bio clicks against 340 GA4 sessions from the same source is a gap of 400 - 340 = 60, and some gap is normal: people close the tab, block cookies or click twice. Decide now which number you report, and make it the one on your own site.
- Start from the link you already have. List what your bio links to today and the five pages followers ask about most. Those become the first buttons, in that order.
- Take last month's baseline. Note sessions from Instagram in GA4 for the past four weeks before you switch, so the new page has something to beat.
What you need
- A Later plan. Custom UTM values and the bannerless page start on Starter, $25 a month on monthly billing (pricing page, checked on 24 October 2026; plan features per the Link in Bio plan article).
- An Instagram business or creator profile connected to Later, and the Instagram app on a phone.
- Access to GA4 for the website the buttons point to.
Step 1: Create the page
On desktop at app.later.com, select Link in Bio in the left menu, choose a username and select Create Your Page, as Later's setup guide describes. The username becomes the page URL and can be changed only once every 30 days, so choose the brand name, not a campaign. You get as many pages as your plan has social sets. If you want to build in private, turn on Make Page Private under Settings and switch it off when the page is ready.
Step 2: Add the profile and the buttons
Select Edit next to Profile to upload a photo (Later recommends 130 x 130 pixels), a name of up to 30 characters and a bio of up to 115, without line breaks. Then Add or Edit next to Buttons: each button has text and a link, can be toggled on and off, and can be dragged into order. Put the page people most often ask for first.
Step 3: Link the feed, post by post
Under Blocks, Add More Blocks, Linked Social Posts, add your Instagram or TikTok profile. Now each post on the page can lead somewhere specific. When you schedule an Instagram post or Reel in Later, add its link in the Link in Bio section of the Post Builder; for posts already published, add it from the Link in Bio management page, per the post links article. An Instagram post can carry up to 5 links, a TikTok post one. Collab posts appear only on the creator's own page, not the collaborator's.
Step 4: Feature what you are pushing
Under Blocks, Featured Media can show your latest linked post enlarged at the top, a YouTube video or custom media. During a launch, feature the launch.
Step 5: Label the traffic your way
Go to Link in Bio, Settings, Manage UTM Tracking, and enter your own values for UTM Source and UTM Medium, per the UTM article. Values may use letters, numbers and underscores, up to 100 characters. Later sets utm_campaign itself from the block that was clicked, such as button_list, feed or featured_media, so the campaign field already tells you which part of the page worked. Without custom values the defaults are utm_source=later-linkinbio and utm_medium=referral. Use the source and medium you use elsewhere for Instagram, so GA4 does not split one channel into two. A UTM written into an individual link overrides the page defaults.
Step 6: Give the page a search snippet
On Starter and up, Settings, Edit SEO Data takes a title of up to 70 characters and a meta description of up to 160. Later's guide adds that search engines may still show something else.
Step 7: Put the URL in your bio
Instagram bio links have to be edited in the Instagram app. On your phone, open the Link in Bio management page, tap the share icon and Copy Link, then in Instagram go to Edit Profile, Links, Add external link and paste it. If the bio already holds your website, replace it: the website becomes a button.
Step 8: Let AI suggest what to post, and choose yourself
Later Social documents no MCP server or Zapier connection for this job, but its Ideas tool uses AI to propose content pillars from a short brand description and then ideas within each pillar, at 1 credit for 3 ideas, per the Ideas article. It is a beta on paid desktop plans. Use it to draft next month's linked posts, then pick and edit the ideas by hand; the link on each post is still yours to set.
Step 9: Read the traffic in GA4
In GA4, go to Reports, Acquisition, Traffic acquisition, switch the dimension to Session source and add a filter for the source value you set in step 5. The UTM article notes that data can take up to 24 hours to appear. Switch to Session campaign to see which block sent the traffic.
Step 10: Collect emails, carefully
The page can hold an email signup block that saves to a CSV export or to Mailchimp, per the email collection article. Later's own warnings are worth copying into your process: the default consent text "may not meet your legal obligations", and people who unsubscribe elsewhere are not removed from later CSV exports, so you have to filter them out yourself.
What Later's guides flag
- Username changes are limited to one every 30 days.
- Bio links are edited only in Instagram's mobile app.
- Analytics for Link in Bio are on the web, not the mobile app, and the location map uses yesterday's data on UTC days, per the analytics article.
Measuring what the page is worth
After four weeks, put GA4 sessions by campaign beside Later's page views, button clicks and click-through rate. A tool's own analytics are built to show that tool's contribution, so treat Later's counts as a check on GA4, not the reverse. Clicks still are not sales. The free test is to link one product only from the bio page for two weeks and compare its orders with the two weeks before. A causal attribution tool such as Causality Engine runs that kind of comparison continuously; disclosure: I founded it.
FAQ
How many Link in Bio pages can I have?
As many as your plan's social sets, per the setup guide: one on Starter, two on Growth, six on Scale.
Does it work for TikTok?
Yes. Add your TikTok feed under Linked Social Posts; each TikTok post takes one link.
Why do Later's clicks and GA4's sessions differ?
They count different events in different places: a click on Later's page, and a session on your site that GA4 recorded. Some visitors never load your page, and GA4 can take up to 24 hours to show the data.
