The short answer: under 30 posts per profile a month, Later Starter and Planoly Starter do the same job and Planoly's costs less, $16 against $25 a month on monthly billing; past 30, Later's cap moves you to Growth at $50, while every paid Planoly plan schedules without a post limit (checked on 26 October 2026 on the Later and Planoly pricing pages). Choose Later when someone outside the team must approve posts, or the inbox has to cover Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Choose Planoly when the bio link is a shop that sells digital products, and Instagram is where the conversations happen.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Planoly changes what a social set is for. Later sells sets as part of a brand team's workflow, with approvals, a three-network inbox and analytics kept for up to two years, and it now leads its homepage with influencer campaigns. Planoly sells the same kind of set to a creator or small business whose link in the bio is a till: its Creator Store sells digital downloads, merch and bookings, and its pricing page says it charges zero transaction fees on them.

Three checks first:

  1. Price two people and two brands for a year. For example, Growth on annual billing is $37.50 x 12 = $450 a year at Later and $24 x 12 = $288 at Planoly, using the Later and Planoly pricing pages. Both include 2 sets and 2 users.
  2. Look at what your bio link does today. A list of links and an email form fits either. A shop that sells a guide or a preset fits Planoly's store. A page of products tagged from Instagram posts fits Later, which adds Instagram Shop product tagging on Growth.
  3. Decide how far back your report must look. Planoly's analytics offer the last 7, 30 or 90 days for Instagram, Pinterest, TikTok and LinkedIn, per its analytics guide. Later keeps 3 months on Starter, a year on Growth and two years on Scale. Quarter-on-quarter fits both; year-on-year fits only Later's upper plans.

What you would notice in the first month

The post count

Later counts every scheduled item per profile, Reels and Stories included, at the moment it is scheduled. Planoly's plan guide lists unlimited posts on Starter, Growth and Professional. For a creator posting a Reel and two Stories a day, that is the whole comparison: Later Starter runs out in ten days, and Planoly Starter does not run out.

Sign-off and the inbox

Later's Growth plan adds a content approval workflow, and an external comment workflow for people without a Later login, through review links that expire after 7 days. Planoly's team guide describes comments and @mentions on posts and media, and no approval step; to show a client the plan, it offers a read-only Plan Report link lasting 48 hours to 30 days. Planoly's inbox covers Instagram comments and DMs only. If a manager signs off posts, or TikTok comments need answers, Later is the one built for it, though its approval status does not stop a scheduled post from publishing, per its collaboration guide.

Where the money is made

Both bio pages link posts and collect email. Planoly's store goes further into selling: digital products, courses, merch and bookings, paid out through Stripe, per its help centre. Later goes further into brand marketing: competitor benchmarking for up to 20 competitors, brand mentions and Meta Ads analytics on Scale, and an influencer platform sold separately.

The prices, read on 26 October 2026

Later, from its pricing page: Starter $25 a month or $18.75 billed yearly, Growth $50 or $37.50, Scale $110 or $82.50 for 6 sets and 4 users. Extra sets are $15 and extra users $5 a month on Growth and Scale; Starter cannot buy either. Yearly billing takes 25% off and renews automatically.

Planoly, from its pricing page: Starter $16 a month or $14 billed annually, Growth $28 or $24, Professional $55 or $47 for 6 sets and 6 users. Extra sets are $10 on Growth and $8 on Professional, extra users $5 and $3. Its homepage disagrees with its pricing page twice, listing Starter at up to 60 uploads a month and Professional at $444 billed annually, which is not $47 x 12 = $564; the pricing page and the dated plan guide agree with each other, so those are the figures used here.

An AI step: a 30-day report through Planoly's MCP

Planoly's MCP works on every plan for drafting and scheduling; analytics and report links need a paid one, per its setup guide. The guide's own prompt asks Claude or ChatGPT to pull 30 days of Instagram analytics, summarise performance, show the top five posts and what they share, and generate a shareable report link. A person checks the reach and interaction totals against Instagram's own insights for the same dates before the link goes to anyone, because the link is read-only and expires after 14 days. Tools that change or delete something are marked destructive, so the AI client asks before running them. Later's help centre returns nothing for MCP; its AI is Caption Writer and Ideas, paid in credits.

One free month on each

Both have a free tier. Later's holds 12 posts per profile, one set and the Link in Bio page, per its plan reference; Planoly's holds 10 posts a month in one workspace, per its free plan guide. Plan the month's grid on paper first, then build it in each.

Planoly's free counter rises with every post created, placeholders and duplicates included, and deleting a post does not give the count back, so the grid planning Planoly is known for spends the free month fastest. Place only posts you mean to publish.

Choose Later if

  • Your job is a brand calendar that a manager approves and a client comments on, with an inbox across Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
  • Snapchat matters, or you want two years of analytics and competitor benchmarks on Scale.
  • Influencer campaigns are on the plan for next year.

Choose Planoly if

  • Your job is selling from the bio link: digital products, merch or bookings.
  • You post more often than Later Starter's monthly allowance per profile and want no cap to watch.
  • You want an assistant to draft, schedule and report through an MCP connection.

The Hootsuite angle on Later's planner is in Later vs Hootsuite, and How to Use Later builds a tracked Link in Bio page.

FAQ

Can Planoly publish to X?

Not automatically. Its plan guide says X is reminder-only: Planoly notifies you at the scheduled time and you finish the post in the X app. Later does not support X at all.

Does Planoly have an approval workflow?

Its team guide describes comments and @mentions on posts and media items, on paid plans, and no approval step. Later adds approvals on Growth.

Does a free trial cost anything?

Neither charges during the 14 days. Later's trial asks for a card and moves to a paid plan unless you cancel, per its trial FAQ; Planoly's plan guide says checkout starts the trial and you are not charged until it ends.
