The short answer: for one person who already designs in Canva, keep the infographics there: Pro costs US$144 a year and its developer documentation lists exports, PDF and PPTX among the formats, on every plan (Canva pricing, Canva MCP overview, checked on 26 October 2026). Piktochart earns a seat when the raw material is a long document and the output is a report people read: Pikto AI turns a text-based PDF, Word or text file into a visual, and Business, $204 a year per member, adds PDF and PowerPoint downloads (Piktochart pricing). Choose Canva if your job is everything a brand publishes. Choose Piktochart if your job is reports, surveys and long documents made readable.

Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.

Canva is a general design suite in which an infographic is one format among a thousand. Piktochart is built around the infographic, the report and the presentation, with an AI that starts from your text rather than from a template.

Before you add a seat:

  1. Per head, the order flips. For one person, Canva Pro at US$144 a year costs less than Piktochart Business at $204. For a team it turns round, because Canva Pro covers one person only: for example, five people pay 5 x $204 = $1,020 a year on Piktochart Business against 5 x US$250 = US$1,250 on Canva Business, per the Piktochart and Canva pricing pages.
  2. The documents you already wrote. Pikto AI takes one file at a time, up to 10MB, as TXT, DOCX or a PDF with real text in it; a scan will not convert (upload article). Count last quarter's reports that fit that description before you count templates.
  3. Hours per visual, before and after. Time the next report visual in the tool you use now. Repeat with the new one. If the hours do not fall, the subscription bought a second habit, not a faster one.

What separates them

A document in, or a template in

Piktochart's AI reads your words: upload the report, pick a format, and it proposes layouts from the text. Switch on Preserve Content, available in the Document format, and your sentences survive the conversion; any chart or table in the file survives too, but as a flat image you cannot edit (Preserve Content article). Canva starts you from a template and its Charts tool, where you type or paste the data into a chart you style (Canva infographic maker). The longer the source document, the more the first route matters; for a one-page stat card, a template is enough.

A specialist, or the place everything else is made

Canva lists more than 1,000 design types on its free tier (pricing); the infographic is drafted beside the LinkedIn post that will promote it and the deck that will quote it. Piktochart sticks to infographics, reports, presentations and print. When report visuals are a small share of the design week, a second subscription has to justify itself, and document length is usually what does.

Who a seat covers

Canva Pro is for one person, and Business bills only members who accept an invitation (Canva pricing FAQ). Piktochart bills per member on Pro and Business and lets a free workspace hold up to four people (Piktochart pricing FAQ).

What each costs

Piktochart charges per member: $120 a year for Pro paid annually, or $15 month to month; $204 a year for Business, or $20 month to month; Enterprise is quoted from 101 members (Piktochart pricing). Canva, before tax: one person on Pro pays US$18 monthly or US$144 for the year, and each Business member US$25 monthly or US$250 for the year (Canva pricing). All read on 26 October 2026.

One agent step: a monthly KPI sheet filled from a brand template

Canva's MCP server gives an AI assistant tools to search brand templates, read a template's data fields and autofill a design from them, all on Pro and above; exports run on every plan (MCP tools list). Build the one-page KPI sheet once as a brand template with named fields: month, sessions, sign-ups, the quarter's target. Each month, connect Canva in Claude, paste the row from your reporting sheet and ask the assistant to find the template, list its fields with get-brand-template-dataset, fill them with autofill-design and leave a comment for the reviewer.

The check is a person reading every number on the filled design against the sheet before export-design makes the PDF. The reviewer also checks the month in the title, because the template accepts last month's row without complaint. Piktochart's help pages, as read for this comparison, describe no agent connector; its AI route is the document upload, walked through in Piktochart vs Visme. Two more Canva agent routes, one starting from a campaign brief and one editing a finished promo, are covered in the AdCreative.ai and FlexClip comparisons.

The free workspace and the first invoice

Piktochart's free workspace seats an owner and three members at no cost, and its pricing FAQ says that on upgrading you are charged for each member of the workspace (Piktochart pricing FAQ). The colleagues invited while it cost nothing set the size of the first bill: for example, a full free workspace moving to Pro costs 4 x $120 = $480 a year. Remove anyone who only needs to view before you upgrade.

Free first

Both free plans carry a fair test. Piktochart's comes with 60 AI credits and a lifetime allowance of two PNG downloads (free plan article), and summarising an uploaded document uses 3 of those credits (credits article). Turn last quarter's report into a visual in Piktochart, build the same page in Canva Free from a template, and show both to the person who reads that report.

Choose Canva if your job is everything the brand publishes, infographics included, for one person or a team that already designs there.

Choose Piktochart if your job is turning long reports, survey results and policy documents into visuals, for a team that wants the lowest price per head for PDF output.

Piktochart's plans and AI credits are in the Piktochart entry, and how to use Piktochart converts a quarterly report step by step.

FAQ

Does Canva Business charge for people who never accept the invite?

No. Canva's pricing FAQ describes pay-as-you-grow billing: only members who accept are charged, and the bill adjusts monthly, or quarterly on an annual subscription (Canva pricing).

Will Piktochart keep my report's charts editable?

No. Preserve Content keeps charts and tables visible as they appear in the original file, and the help article says they are not yet editable in the editor (Preserve Content article). Fix a wrong figure in the source and convert again.

Does Piktochart refund an annual plan?

Generally not. Its pricing FAQ says it does not provide refunds for payments made, and reviews requests case by case through support (Piktochart pricing).
