Publer vs Buffer: Bulk Scheduling Toolkit or Lean Queue

The short answer: for a small team that fills calendars in bulk, recycles evergreen posts and needs a client to approve after a manager, Publer does more per dollar: 10 accounts and two extra members cost $76 a month on its Business plan with monthly billing (Publer plans, checked on 26 October 2026), against $120 for 10 channels on Buffer Team (Buffer pricing). Buffer is the better start if you want analytics, its API and an AI connection without paying for a higher tier, since Publer keeps analytics, the API and its MCP on Business.
Disclosure: I may earn a commission through some links on this site. It does not change what this page says.
Publer is a scheduler with a large toolbox: CSV and multi-media bulk upload, spintax variations, post recycling, RSS auto-posting, watermarks, auto-delete, and networks Buffer does not list, such as Telegram and WordPress. It prices each social account and each extra member. Buffer prices each channel, includes every member on Team, and keeps its tool list short.
Before you pay for either:
- Price your exact account count in Publer's calculator. It does not scale in a straight line. For example, 5 accounts on Professional show $20 a month billed monthly, and 5 accounts plus one extra member show $22 (Publer plans). Buffer Essentials for 5 channels is 5 x $6 = $30, for one user (Buffer pricing).
- Run both free plans on the three accounts you already post to. Publer's free plan allows 3 accounts other than X, 10 scheduled posts per account and 25 drafts, and keeps published posts for 24 hours. Buffer's allows 3 channels and 10 scheduled posts each, with 30 days of insights (Publer plans, Buffer pricing).
- Time one month's scheduling session. Note how long it takes today to load a month of posts. Bulk upload is where Publer's case rests, so that hour count is what the trial must cut.
Free and paid, limit by limit
| Limit | Publer Free | Buffer Free | Publer paid | Buffer paid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Accounts | 3, no X | 3 channels | Priced per account | Priced per channel |
| Scheduled posts | 10 per account | 10 per channel | Unlimited, with daily limits per network | Unlimited, fair use cap of 5,000 per channel |
| History kept | Published posts for 24 hours | Insights for 30 days | Published posts indefinitely | Analytics without a limit |
| People | 1 | 1 | Owner plus paid members | 1 on Essentials, unlimited on Team |
| Approvals | No | No | Between members, admin then client | Team plan, one step |
| Analytics | No | 30-day insights | Business plan | Essentials and Team |
| API and MCP | No | API key and MCP | Business plan | All plans |
| Trial | Not needed | Not needed | 7 days Professional, 14 days Business | 14 days |

What sets them apart
Volume tools against a short list
Publer's paid plans add bulk scheduling from a CSV file or a multi-media uploader, spintax so a recycled post reads differently each time, recurring posts, RSS feeds that publish automatically, auto-share and auto-delete, and posts to Telegram groups and channels and to WordPress sites (Publer plans). Buffer's paid plans add unlimited scheduling, first comments, a hashtag manager, analytics and, on Team, approvals (Buffer pricing). If your calendar is built in a spreadsheet, Publer saves the retyping. If it is built one post at a time, the toolbox sits unused.
Two signatures or one
Publer's approval guide supports an admin step and a client step on the same post: a post is fully scheduled only once both have approved, when both approvals are set. A declined post goes back to its author with a note. Buffer's approval guide has one step, from a Needs Approval user to an owner or Full Access user. Publer's guide also says an unapproved post is marked failed when its scheduled time passes, so a missed approval fails safe rather than publishing.
Where the AI connection sits
Publer's MCP is on Business and Enterprise only (MCP guide). Connected by API key, the assistant can do only what the key's scopes allow, so a key limited to posts can draft but not read analytics. One weekly step: the assistant turns a list of five blog links into draft posts for LinkedIn and Facebook, which the guide gives as a sample prompt, and an editor reads each draft and schedules the ones that pass. Buffer's MCP server is available on its free plan; the trade-off its docs name is that the connection reaches the whole account.
The prices, side by side
Checked on 26 October 2026 in the Publer plans calculator and on the Buffer pricing page. Monthly billing, yearly in brackets.
| Setup | Publer Professional | Publer Business | Buffer |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 accounts, 1 person | $12 ($9.60) | $21 ($16.80) | Essentials: $18 ($15) |
| 5 accounts, 1 person | $20 ($16) | $35 ($28) | Essentials: $30 ($25) |
| 5 accounts, 2 people | $22 ($17.60) | $38 ($30.40) | Team: $60 ($50) |
| 10 accounts, 1 person | $40 ($28.80) | $70 ($50.40) | Essentials: $60 ($50) |
| 10 accounts, 3 people | $44 ($32) | $76 ($55.20) | Team: $120 ($100) |
You are not misreading the 10-account row. Publer's FAQ says every tenth account is free, and on 26 October the calculator applied that in the yearly price only: $28.80 is 9 accounts at the yearly rate, while the monthly figure, $40, charges all 10. Publer's FAQ also states a 20% discount for yearly billing and a 14-day money-back period on each payment.
Fencing analytics, the API and the MCP into Business is how Publer turns a $20 Professional bill into a $35 Business one for the same five accounts (Publer plans). If an AI connection is the reason you are comparing, price Business from the start.
Choose Publer if
- Your job is loading a month of posts at once from a spreadsheet, and recycling evergreen content with variations.
- A client must approve after your own editor, and a missed approval should stop the post.
- You post to Telegram or WordPress alongside the usual networks.
Choose Buffer if
- Your job is publishing with several colleagues, and seats should cost nothing.
- You want analytics, the API and an MCP connection without moving to a higher tier.
- You want Substack or a Start Page link hub in the same queue as your social posts.
FAQ
Does Publer's free plan include X?
No. The plans page says X accounts cannot be connected on the free version, because of the cost of the X API; X needs a paid subscription (Publer plans).
Which Publer plan includes analytics?
Analytics insights and reports, recommended posting times, competitor analysis and the API and MCP are listed under Business (Publer plans). Professional covers unlimited scheduling, first comments, threads and X.
How does Buffer count the free channels once I upgrade?
Every channel is billed, including the three you had free, per the FAQ on the Buffer pricing page. Publer prices the accounts you select in its calculator.
