Metricool vs Buffer: Brands with Ads Reporting or Channels

The short answer: if you report organic posts and paid ads together for several brands, Metricool is built for that and priced by brand: up to five brands, each with one profile per network plus its Meta, Google and TikTok ad accounts, cost $25 a month on Starter with monthly billing (Metricool pricing, checked on 26 October 2026). If the job is publishing to a handful of channels and answering comments, Buffer at $6 a channel is simpler, and it does not report on ads at all (Buffer pricing).

The unit is what Metricool changes. A Metricool brand is a folder that holds one account per network, from a website and an Instagram profile to a Google Business location and three ad platforms, and the plan sets how many brands you may have, not how many accounts (brand guide). Buffer bills each connected account. With one brand on three networks the two cost about the same. With five brands on four networks each, they do not.
Before you switch:
- Multiply brands by networks, then price both ways. For example, five brands on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok are 20 Buffer channels: 10 x $6 + 10 x $4 = $100 a month on Essentials (Buffer pricing). On Metricool they are five brands, $25 a month on Starter (Metricool pricing).
- Add X separately. Metricool charges $10 a month per connected X account on every paid plan, and X is not available on Free, per the same pricing page. On Buffer an X profile is one more channel.
- Reconcile one month of ad numbers before you trust the dashboard. Put the spend and conversions Metricool shows for a campaign next to the ad platform's own billing and your shop or CRM records for the same dates. If the three agree, the reports are usable as a summary. If not, you know which figure to quote.
If you need to...

What separates them
Ads in the same report
Metricool's brand can hold a Meta Ads, a Google Ads and a TikTok Ads account beside the organic profiles, and its reporting builds PDF and PPT reports, with Data Studio and custom templates on Advanced (pricing page). For an agency that sends one monthly report per client, that is most of the work. Buffer's analytics cover posts and channel performance, with branded reports on Team (Buffer pricing). If paid social is someone else's job, that is enough.
Where the price jumps
Metricool's price moves in steps of brands: 5 or 10 on Starter, 15, 25 or 50 on Advanced. Buffer's moves one channel at a time and gets cheaper per channel past the tenth. The jump to watch on Metricool is Advanced, from $67 a month on monthly billing, because approvals, team roles and the API sit there. A team that needs one approver for three brands pays for 15.
What an assistant can reach
Metricool's MCP works on any plan, including Free, and the connected client can read brand settings, query analytics including connected ad accounts, check posting times, and create posts or send them for review (MCP limits guide). One weekly step: the assistant pulls last week's organic and ad metrics for each brand and drafts the summary paragraph for each client report, and a person checks every number against the dashboard before it goes out. The same guide says inbox messages, comments and ads campaign management are not available through the MCP. Buffer's MCP server reads organic post metrics only, since that is all Buffer holds.
Prices, checked on 26 October 2026
USD, from the Metricool pricing page and the Buffer pricing page. Monthly billing first, annual in brackets where the page prints it; the arithmetic is mine.
| Setup | Metricool | Buffer |
|---|---|---|
| 1 brand on 3 networks, no LinkedIn or X | Free | Free |
| 1 brand on 4 networks, LinkedIn included | Starter: $25 ($20) | Essentials, 4 channels: $24 ($20) |
| 5 brands on 4 networks, one person | Starter: $25 ($20) | Essentials, 20 channels: $100 |
| 5 brands on 4 networks, approvals | Advanced, 15 brands: $67 ($53) | Team, 20 channels: $160 |
| Add an X account to each of the 5 brands | Plus 5 x $10 = $50 | Plus 5 x $4 = $20 on Essentials |
On Metricool's Free plan you cannot add or delete brands, per its brand guide. What Metricool gains from that fixed single brand is your reporting history, already stored in its tool on the day a second client arrives and the Starter bill begins.
Choose Metricool if
- Your job is reporting organic and paid social together, per client or per brand, on a fixed monthly fee.
- You run several brands that each use four or more networks.
- You want an AI assistant to read ad metrics as well as post metrics without a paid plan.
Choose Buffer if
- Your job is publishing and replying for one or two brands, and ads are reported elsewhere.
- You need X on several brands and want it priced as an ordinary channel.
- You want Zapier, Make or n8n connected from the free plan.
Ad numbers in either report come from the ad platforms, and a platform is not paid to tell you what would have sold without the ad. The free check is a holdout: pause one campaign in one region for two weeks, keep it running elsewhere, and compare orders in your own records. Later, if you want that check run continuously, a causal attribution tool like Causality Engine does it (disclosure: I founded it).
FAQ
What counts as a brand in Metricool?
One business, client or location, holding at most one account per network: one Instagram, one Facebook Page, one TikTok and so on. Each Google Business location needs its own brand (brand guide).
Does Buffer report on Facebook or TikTok ads?
Its pricing page lists insights, performance overview, custom analytics and reports for posts and channels, and no ad account reporting (Buffer pricing). Its Community tab also leaves out comments on ads (network guide).
Is the Metricool MCP the same as its API?
No. The MCP works on every plan, Free included; the API is a separate product limited to Advanced and Custom, and it is what Zapier and Make connect through (MCP limits guide).
